Energetic atmosphere and running well for being open for only a few days. I found the menu limited and couldn't really make a meal out of the choices. Their rolls are tiny and just three are offered. The soy sauce atomizer is a very nice touch, unfortunately mine was empty when I went to use it. It was annoying to have to figure that out myself and then request another. In addition I used my own hand sanitizer - they don't offer hand towels or anything even though they expect you to use your hands not chopsticks. So then I was handling another item after I had sanitized my hands. I enjoyed the trumpet mushroom salad and thought it was excellent and refreshing. The sushi is high quality and delicious but of course pricey too.

Lynn and I snagged an early reservation for day 3 of the opening of KYN on Cannon street KYN is a sushi hand roll bar and cocktail lounge with a funky vibe, cool music, friendly energetic staff and fresh hand rolls with high quality fish, both locally caught and some imported from Japan. They also have a rooftop space! They offer 3 hand rolls that you can order individually or in a Chef's Set (all 3 offerings) and share plates, most good for 2 people. The hand rolls are the traditional cylinder style and I recommend that you eat them in 2 bites as soon as they hit your plate while the Nori is still crisp. Yes, pause your conversation, you won't be sorry. We had: 2 Chef Sets of hand rolls Bluefin Tuna Cannolis Uni Kuri French Toast CHS Wagyu Shortrib Ssam Vanilla Soft Serve Everything was super fresh and the flavors were lovely. Icing on the cake for me is that they are in the Blackbird Rewards Network KYN 61 Cannon St Charleston, SC 29403 Open 7 days a week 12pm-10pm

After spending a week in Charleston and trying several highly recommended restaurants, I honestly think this first seafood meal was the best!! We each had a fish dinner and shared a dessert, which all was very delicious! Being from Texas, we laughed at the size of the Diet Coke offered as a dinner drink!! Overall, an excellent dinner!!

When I first entered I told her I had made the mistake of choosing "outdoor patio" for our reservation (90% humidity) which she told me "not problem, we went ahead and got you an indoor table", AMAZING. My husband got the Coastal Cola (like drinking a Coca Cola while eating boiled peanuts...really, and it's amazing). For dinner we split the following Tier 1 Tower - The oysters were fresh, the smoked amberjack pate was clean and filling, and the peel and eat shrimp were flavorful. For my husband's second beverage he ordered a "Loaded Hamms" (not on the menu but they'll know) with their homemade hot sauce. Smoked Bird Island Oysters - OMG it was so simple yet so flavorful and fresh. They make their own hot sauce which is very flavorful with a touch of spice. We loved it. Charcoal Grilled Royal Reds - The eggplant puree with like a Baba ghanoush but with a little more flavor and pizazz. The shrimps were so tender and again flavorful. For desert we split the corn ice cream with blackberry jam and graham cracker crumbles. It was amazing. We highly recommend "The Ordinary"; the food was phenomenal and the service was exceptional.

Very limited seating across the room but we luckily we snagged a reservation. Our server was very friendly and went over some specials with us before taking our drink orders and inquired about allergies. We went family style and started with the crispy tuna rice, marinated cucumbers, dumplings and pork bao. We added on a few rolls and ended with the sesame lamb noodles and duck fried rice. The dumplings were unique with this crispy shell on top and had a creamier sauce. We did have to ask for soy sauce which is usually something we expect to get right away after ordering sushi. He gave us one dish of soy instead of all of our own which I thought was weird so we asked for more. I enjoyed the textures of the dumplings but I felt the sauce lacked a bit in flavor to complement the dumplings. Crispy rice looked appealing but we were all disappointed with the lack of flavor, especially in the tuna mixture alright the textures were on point. The sushi rolls were made well and you get about 5 bigger pieces. The best thing we had were the cucumbers! Simple and delicious, packed with flavor. The sesame lamb noodles were also prepared well, and had nice flavors overall that were unique. We spent about $200 per couple which I felt was quite steep for the amount of food we got, but overall I would say we enjoyed ourselves but a few things just fell short on flavors.

The sushi was fresh, and their food and drink menu included a wide…read morerange of standard to premium selections, including fatty tuna, A5 wagyu, and Junmai Daiginjo. I appreciated how they filled their spicy tuna rolls with chunky pieces of fish instead of the usual ground tuna used in other sushi restaurants. Their offerings and methods of preparation, paired with their higher price point, suggests they are a higher end establishment. However, the atmosphere was undoubtedly on the casual side, and their service, although friendly and knowledgeable, exuded a lack of experience and the same attention to detail that they put into their food. This was especially apparent after coming from eating at other restaurants in a similar price bracket, where you can sense the waitstaff had a lot of pride and passion for their craft, and it didn't feel like it was just a job for them. In contrast, our experience at Shiki felt far more transactional, and lacked that "customer obsession" and genuine warmth. That said, it's difficult to judge a restaurant's culture just from a single night, and maybe other customers had a different experience from us. Ultimately, if good sushi is your priority and you are willing to splurge a bit, Shiki meets and even exceeds that bar.

They exist, but some of the best are so unassuming you can walk right past them. Shiki is exactly that kind of place--a small, warm, inviting restaurant tucked into a strip mall that feels like a neighborhood secret. Loc, our waiter, greeted us as soon as we sat down with water, a friendly welcome, and a helpful walk-through of the menu. We started with wine and sake--always a promising beginning. The first course was seaweed salad with baby octopus, and I could have happily sipped that dressing like a cocktail. Light, bright, perfectly balanced, with tender octopus that added just the right bite. From there we decided to sample our way through the menu and ordered a lineup of rolls: Spicy Yellowtail, Spicy Shiromi, Rainbow, Spider, Lemon Salmon, and Eel. Each one seemed better than the last. The Spicy Shiromi was the clear standout--absolutely spectacular. What really sets Shiki apart is that every roll has its own distinct flavor instead of the one-note sameness you find at so many sushi spots. You can tell real care goes into the preparation. If you're searching for fresh, thoughtful, genuinely delicious sushi, don't overlook this little gem. Shiki is the real deal.
