Solution? If you're lucky enough to be within driving distance of a Birkenstock store, you can buy them there. I'd seen this location in Sherman Oaks forever but just never happened to go in. The staff were very helpful. I am glad after so many years Birkis are still in vogue. They're the one footwear that is always in vogue. They told me they not gonna be lower than $200 so I went in based on that conversation. Once I got there, they offered only $160. I understand a resale business needs to inspect shoes in person and make a profit, and I wasn't expecting them to pay retail or private-sale prices. But the condition was already shown in the photos, and cutting the offer another 20% after getting me into the store felt like a waste of my time. If $160 was realistically their range, I would have appreciated knowing that before making the trip. There were times when I worried about it survival. Because being a cowboy hasn't always been popular. And that's what the general store specializes in. Cowboy gear for women, men and children.. Well, like a popularity certainly not the case anymore at the general store. They have incredible merchandise for both men and women and a few for kids. Their selection makes western wear look cool and stylish. There were definitely items in there I wanted to buy. They had some gorgeous clothes for women. Styles to put wranglers as a shame. These clothes are authentic and yet made of great quality fabrics and materials. I don't think I've ever seen a greater selection of cowboy boots for women and kids. The price goes from about $2000 all the way down to $200. So there's something for everyone. The clothing line for women is very western as you would expect. But the quality is absolutely amazing. Service is really funny. The people waiting on you are definitely a throwback from a different era. They most certainly aren't used to servicing women like me, but they did so graciously with a smile. It's kind of like having your grumpy old grandpa waiting on you, but you know he adores you no matter what. When I left, they were all smiling, and it was clear that they were proud to work there. I love the decor, the store and the vintage posters. It's like stepping back in time. Please go visit the general store and all the other merchants along that block. There are some Van Nuys, greatest craftsman and merchandisers and they need to be frequented and honored.
