I had a really nice leather backpack that I got for grad school last year. The only negative was that as I used it more and more, it started accruing wear and tear, specifically the flimsy sewn straps and sketchy riveting job. Sadly the strap on the right finally gave, so I had to stop using the backpack altogether. Due to the leather being thick and the riveting work that it needed, I knew I couldn't fix it myself; enter Shoe Express. The owner was really nice and charged me a fair price ($30) to reinforce the rivets, resew the area, and fortify both straps. It's so sturdy now and I'm overjoyed with the handy work. Thank you again Shoe Express! read more

I recently visited Shoe Express in Downey and was extremely disappointed by the customer service. The gentleman I dealt with came across as angry, rude, and confrontational to the point that the interaction was genuinely uncomfortable and intimidating. I came in as a potential paying customer looking for assistance with my shoes, but after the way I was treated, I decided I would rather take my business to a more professional and courteous establishment. Afterward, I noticed other reviews describing similar experiences with rude and defensive customer service, which unfortunately was consistent with my own experience. A neighborhood business should make customers feel welcome and appreciated--not uncomfortable for simply walking in and asking for service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Shoe Express and will be taking my future shoe-repair business elsewhere. read more

Joel is my go to place to get my shoes fixed! when my shoes heels are messed up or if you need your shoes stretched out he is a man! He has great prices, and the quality of his products are amazing! I recommend you go to him! It is a little hidden in the mall, so make sure you look for the store! read more

This guy means business for sure. I got my shoes redone here for better tread on the bottom of the shoe and he made my shoes look brand new and even polished them for me. It was my first time ever at this place and the price is right for his service and he uses good quality stuff. I payed 100 dollars cash for my shoes to be redone and he absolutely nailed it. What I had requested from him was if I could have my shoes not platform anymore and just regular looking doc martens and you can't even tell if the shoes had been redone read more

Terrible customer service. He basically blames me for his poor work. The guy is very rude when you complain. I paid $20 and my sandals were never repaired. I don't recommend this place. He made me go twice and the second time he told me they weren't ready, I just picked them up. Very frustrating. read more

Seeing someone give a bad review over a price quote that was called in and one over a complaint about something they could've came back in for him to fix (which I'm sure he would've been more than happy to resolve) is pretty ridiculous. I brought in my usual go-to slippers and was torn that they ripped. I know I could've bought new ones, but why? I remember watching that Adam Sandler movie The Cobbler and remember these places exist! Then thankfully found one near me! I knew it would be difficult to repair the slippers to perfection because of how it ripped (it didn't rip on the sew seam but in the actual material). Wish I took an after photo. Anyway, he described how he was going to repair it and that's exactly what I got! The honesty of what my actual expectations are were met and I appreciate that. Plus I didn't pay much for the repair. There's not many cobblers out there and this man is trying to make a living. 5 stars for his amazing work and prices. I'm definitely referring and bringing more items for him to repair! read more

Shoe express has always helped me with my shoes and bags!! Sometimes the people are not friendly, so minus 1 for that, but the guy i recently had fix 2 pairs of shoes was extremely nice and helpful. I always bring in my heels for sole repair (in or out), fixing straps, and my bags for cleaning. Ive been able to wear my favorite shoes for a LOT longer because of this place. Reasonable prices and fast service. I have many more shoes to bring in and i will always bring them here. THANK YOU read more

Took my purse to get repaired as it just needed a rivet to hold down a small leather flap. As soon as I got it home it broke again! To take it back is almost more trouble than it's worth. I just won't come here again. Not to mention I had to wait even though I had left it the previous day - it still wasn't done when I came back at 3:00 the next day. Don't waste your time here. read more

I came in with a YSL purse and a Louis Vuitton backpack on Sunday. I asked if he was able to wash and do a leather treatment on them both, he's super nice at first and say "yes I can, for $115" I said perfect. He tells me to give him 1 week to finish the job and that he will call once it is ready and hands me his business card. Takes my phone number down and I paid cash. We leave the mall It's is now Wednesday of the following week, I still haven't received a call. I decide to call him myself and one number is disconnected and the other just continues to ring Red Flag #1. I made the decision to take a chance and drive after work to the mall to see what was going on. I get there and he has a sign on the door "I be back at 7pm" I arrived at 6:45 so I thought, no problem, I'll wait. I can see one of my bags hanging right passed the doorway, I didn't like that people could just see it there especially with no one around to watch the store. More people began to wait with me who also wanted to check on their stuff, one couple specifically said they came yesterday and were told their items weren't ready yet and so he told them to come back the next day, Red Flag #2 It's is now 7:20pm and he come in with a bag of food and no apology to anyone who was waiting, Red flag #3 I walk to the counter and I hand him my ticket and I let him know that I was supposed to receive a call on Sunday about my items, but I'm here now to pick them up. He looks at me and says "they aren't ready, I washed the ysl bag but that's it" I said "you've had my bags for a week and a half and they still aren't ready" he doesn't give me any explanation and still said "im going to need more time" After what I've read and what another person just told me. I was not about to leave my stuff there any longer to just gather more dust. I asked for my refund and told him to charge me for the "wash" he did to one of the bags. HE THREW THE TICKET AT ME ACROSS THE COUNTER AND SMACKED HIS LIPS! I was shocked! I told him "sir there is no need to be rude, you were paid to do a job and that job was not completed, please give me my stuff and my money" he began to take care of the couple that was standing in line behind me. The older gentleman said politely " you need to finish with her first, she was here first" I couldn't believe this man was trying to brush me to the side, so I said " sir if you don't give me my stuff and my money im going to call security" he looked and me and says "call them!" Just as im about to, he goes to the back and grabs my items and opens the register to give me my refund. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR YOUR PRECIOUS TIME! read more

Amazing quick turn around. The owner suggested I re do my red bottoms soon. He was concerned and genuinely polite.

I received professional service from Angelo on more than one occasion over the past two years. In the past I've had the soles of a pair of wingtip shoes reglued. I haven't had a problem with them... not yet anyway. I just got a pair of black suede Lands End pull ons reglued. And I'm curious to see how long they last. I did see that there were other customers that weren't happy with Angelo's work. He was nothing but polite to me and even told me that if I had problems with him to bring them back in. I don't know Angelo personally but, from what I've gathered he has taken the time to listen to the issues I've has. Afterward, I paid him for fixing thise issues and I haven't been back to redo his work. I also know that he's a man who stands by his work. I'm an engineer and things go wrong mechanically with with equipment each and every day. The equipment was manufactured so that it would be flawless but, that's not the reality that's dished out to us. Things happen in this world. That IS the reality. Engines fail and glue can fail, as complained about in someone else's review. The nice thing is he stands by his work. NOTE: I am not an infrequent Yelp-er like many who complain in this community. I take my reviews seriously and have been fortunate enough to gain Elite status for a third year in a row ... I am not one that uses Yelp because I'm a malcontent. I take reviewing seriously. *** if you have just a few reviews over several years ... if you don't have any/many friends and if you havent added any/many photos. True yelpers will not take you seriously. We see through it, so you're only fooling yourself. I'm giving four stars on this review. After I wear my suede shoes for a couple of months without failure, I'll bump it to 5. The only reason I'm not giving 5 now is because I have so many pair of wingtips I don't even know which ones that he fixed in the past. Noting that I only have one pair of black suede, so this will be easy to figure out. ANGELO: Thanks Angelo. Don't take this wrong but, hopefully I won't see you again/often. If there comes a time when I need you, I know where you are and I will send others your way. read more

A strap on my Sandal came loose, so I took it to the shop and was told all it needs is clue to be fixed and to pick it up in one week. O.K one week for clue and $14.00 pay in advance. ??? I came back to pick it up after a week, first he could not find my Sandal, and when he did it was not fixed. He's answer was "come back in 30 min. then it is fixed". My question to him was, why wait one week at first and now you can fix it in 30min. He's reply was very rude saying "I'm to busy." I answered, well then give me my $14.00 and my Sandal, clue will not work in 30 min. I go somewhere else. He then replied I'm not giving you the money back because you paid with a Card, and I have no $14.00 in my Cash Register. At this point I had it, never have I been treated so disrespectful at any business. First he can not find my Sandal, then it was not fixed in a week, when all it took is some Clue, and now he can fix it in 30min., and most of all he refused to give me my money back. I stayed at the shop and did not leave. He screamed at me to leave, but I did not. Finally he gave me my money back. So he did have $14.00 in He's Register. Hmm I know some people will say, oh he is just trying to make a living. Well, so do I. I paid in advance and good faith that I can pick up my Sandal fixed in one week. He had my money but he did not do what I paid for, and to top it off he was so rude as if all of that was my problem. Never again will I go there and I will warn all my friends and family to stay away from this business. read more

The owner is a complete unprofessional jerk. He screamed and yelled at us bc he did a poor job on some Uggz we took in for repair. DO NOT GO THEIR. He was extremely rude and disrespectful. They had the worse phone etiquette. The gentleman who answered had an attitude because I had a second question to ask. The tone he gave me made up my mind to look elsewhere or buy online. Wow. I've been coming here 8 years+ and I can't believe no one has written a review yet! Angelo is a brilliant cobbler, and a gentleman. Under promises, over delivers. I'm always careful about trying out a new shop, and way back I very nervously entrusted a new pair of Ferragamo loafers to this place (if you know what that brand is, I don't need to mention their worth). Now, 2 Ferragamos, 1 Prada and 1 pair of Ted Baker shoes later, I am a loyal patron. read more

I took my $1k Tom Ford shoes here to get colored and now they are 4 different colors. Initially, I took my shoes to get colored and a week after the leather looked cracked and snake-like. I took them back and Angelo said it was due to the perspiration of my feet, which makes no sense since the shoe leather started cracking just a week after being colored. He was trying to find any excuse to blame everything else and not take accountability. He proceeded to talk to me in a very condescending manner and said to take in what he said and after I thought about it he would call me back. I came back to pick up the shoes today after getting "fixed" and shoes are different colors and shades. Their solution was to take out all the color they did. So I basically paid to get my shoes worse than the original condition. They didn't give me my money back and they took zero accountability. I will not be coming back and upset that they were careless with shoes I had spent so much money on. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone, it's a horrible experience! read more

Bad Bad Bad ‼‼‼customer service!! Very slow & sloppy work. Basically puts a bandaid on it. I was not satisfied with my service and they could care less.... Metal didn't match on my $500 handbag, he shrugged his shoulders like all well Go where your service is appreciated ‼ **gave them another try since they told me they fried Angelo. Ha what about Joel. What a mess he stands around looking lost. I first sent there and the place was open but no one was in there.. Joel comes bavk carting good. Anyway needed done as simple as shoe stretching . A NO GO!! A Munster st our church earned us that she paid $15 dollars and shoes never stretched & he wouldn't refund her for what he could do! Awful! So us, took 2 pairs of shoes to be stretched, I pair of shoes & I pair of boots repaired. OMG!!! Nothing was stretched and the repairs where TERRIBLE !
