Capitol Bingo really…read morestands out for a few reasons: 1) Friendly and fun - the staff here is super friendly, can't wait to help out a new person and everyone here is smiling and having a good time. Some of the bingo halls are operated by a staff of grumpy people and it makes the clients grumpy too. North Austin Bingo (see my review) is a joyless pit while this place was a fun time! 2) Affordable. This place has it figured out. Want to play bingo on paper with ink? Only $1 for a card!!! You want a computer, it's only $5 for the session. You want to be a total degen and surround yourself with computers, well at least you wont break the bank. Two computers and one paper were $11 here. Cost me $36 at North Star Bingo and it was horrible. 3) They actually call Bingo here. When the actual Bingo session begins, they treat it like a real game of Bingo. They call the numbers, they give you time to mark them off. Sounds simple, but if you've played at a hall where they just rip the numbers off super fast you know that all the fun is sucked out of the game. They respect that some people want to be entertained, not just gamble. 4) Pull tabs are kept in control. All these places rely on pull tabs to make ends meet, and the customers certainly eat them up. They are not my thing at all, but this place neatly compartmentalizes the games so if you want to play Bingo, you play Bingo during the sessions. Other halls had so many pull tabs and horse race games mixed it it was distracting. 5) It's clean! This can't be said for some of the dingy halls in Austin 6) Just an ok place to hang out. The sound is good. they have a full snack bar with food. The chairs are comfortable. They seem to care to make the experience a good one. If you read my reviews of some other bingo halls, you will see not many care at all. This place cares.

However, I gave Capitol Bingo a try this time around and they exceeded my expectations. The staff were extremely nice, they answered all my questions so that I wouldn't be confused. They also kept coming around to check on me to make sure that I was playing the correct games at the correct time. Even though I don't like pull tabs, I actually got in on the action since the staff explained how to play them and the differences between them. I also loved that this place was completely smoke-free so I could enjoy playing Bingo without having an allergic reaction to the smoking. This was an awesome experience and I highly suggest that you check out Capitol Bingo if you're in the Austin area.

NO ONE was in there and I set my bag on a barstool, of maaaaaany open barstools. An older man walks up and says' "I MADE THIS BAR WITH HOOKS so you can put your purse underneath. It wasn't what he said, it was how he said it with a condescending attitude and tone. I was apparently a menace or "youngin" being rude. I removed my purse from the stool and put it on the way too tiny hook for anyone's bag and then LITERALLY NO ONE sat there the next 40 minutes until we left. I'm always thoughtful, that if it's a crowded place, that I wouldn't take up a stool with my bag . Him, his comment and attitude were unnecessary. Whether he "built" the bar or not. When I first got to Treasure island they asked me for my first & last name then proceeded to type in the computer system which I didn't understand what was going so I once again told them that I've never played there before hence all the questions that I was asking. They also asked for my date of birth, I guess they were creating a profile for me. They didn't clearly explain the games so I didn't know which games were being sold or played at the same time. They didn't explain that some games were double action and others were not. The pull tabs are very random as well, meaning that when I first got there they told me they were only playing and selling 3 pull tab games which I figured would be great but instead they started selling additional pull tabs (none of which were "all play" so you've basically been just wasting money, hoping that you get one of the horses). The parking was nice but this bingo hall is not smoke-free. I've played Bingo in several other states and in my opinion this Treasure Island Bingo Austin location charges too much to play for what you get in return. When you add the $25 machine cost with adding early birds and pull tabs for both sessions you'll be spending $400 in no time which definitely isn't worth it. They also allow the workers to play bingo while they're working which I've never seen happen at any bingo place I've played at. Overall a very weird bingo experience, I don't plan on returning back. The caller does call the numbers at a good speed.

Bingo has always been one of her favorite things on the planet, and recently, this seems to be her favorite place to go. So I agreed to tag along. It was really cozy and I liked that! When we walked in the boy spinning a prize wheel knew my mom's name. I thought that meant she has a gambling problem but turns out it's that way with a lot of the customers here. The people working here learn their regulars. I was impressed. The employees are also very friendly. There is smoking and non-smoking. Thankfully, we sat in non-smoking since we had my nephew with us. Not sure of the age limit but kids are allowed. They do have to play if attending. The did have a kitchen but it has been closed since COVID. So you're able to bring your own food and drinks...INCLUDING ALCOHOL! I didn't though because I didn't know until I got there and saw people cracking open cold ones. We stayed for both sessions which is about 3 hours total. I didn't win anything. I've never been lucky which is part of the reasons gambling and bingo in particular never appealed to me. But this was a bit different. Apparently, you can play computers. With those you really can't miss anything...you don't even really have to pay attention! That was pretty cool because I could be on Twitter getting caught up on the latest Omarion/Mario Verzuz drama while not worrying about sleeping my bingo. Really, I didn't have to worry about it because (as usual) I never came close. But you know what...I'LL BE BACK! It seemed different here then other bingo halls I've been in before. I don't know what it was. Just more relaxed and friendly here. Not that I have much to compare it to. But if you want a comfy place to pass some time around friendly people why not? I won (Bingo) yelled bingo that computer went off and someone else ran over and yelled (Bingo) on behalf of the person who left that computer unattended for over two 2 1/2 hours the (Bingo) house still pay that computer out the person who yelled (Bingo) called the person who purchased the computer to let them know they won and they came back and collected the money this is unacceptable and very disappointing and I did file a complaint with the Texas lottery commission.

This place is an Austin institution and one of the best places in the city to experience live music. This historic venue has been a local hangout for great music since the 1950s. The club was dimly lit with lots of stickers, graffiti, neon signage, paintings and interesting artifacts. While it has been a long time since I have been to the Continental club, it still felt truly Austin and very unpretentious. In the Continental Club you are literally I feet away from the live music. A dog was sleeping on stage, which made the place feel homey. The club is small and intimate, exuding a super personal persona. In addition, the sound quality is excellent for such a small venue. Tonight we listened to Hot Club Cowtown...they sounded folksy and a bit country western yet enjoyable to listen to. Folks were boot scooting, so maybe more country western. Mike the doorman was super personable and helpful. He happily provided the WIFI password and was super engaging. In addition, it is important to note the cover was free until 9 pm. The crowd was a mix bag...locals, tourists, and musicians who love live music. Austin is affectionately known as the "Live Music Capitol of the World". Great music...great time!

We came to see The Peterson Brothers for an 8pm show, arrived about 15 minutes early, and snagged the last couple of seats. Any later and we would've been standing. The venue gets packed quickly, which just adds to the energy. Street parking only in the area, so give yourself a little extra time to find a spot. Bartenders were friendly and efficient, even with a full house. No food menu, just great drinks! I decided to have a sober night and the bartender made a tasty mocktail! If you want a great live music experience, arrive early, bring cash just in case, and settle in for a fantastic night. This place is a staple for a reason!
