Wow!!! What a wonderful place to shop…read more I'm not a shopper. I don't like to shop. I'm all about my "stick and move capers". Pop in and get what I need, then I'm out the door and on my way to my next stop. This shopping set up affords me exactly that... I can see all of the stores from the parking lot, find the ones I want to go, and avoid the ones I don't want to go to; I can go directly to those stores shop to get what I got to get and leave. Ample parking lots. Lots of discounts within the various stores... you talk about making a deal sweeter. Like that the stores observe the social distancing mandate. And the requirement to wear a mask is in full order on all of the stores that I went into. #duringthepandemic
I am sure it was the time of the year and day that made this such a nightmare to find a parking…read morespot. It was tax free weekend, unbeknown to us, that made it even more crowded that we expected. They had some folks "attempting" to direct traffic, not sure where they found them or if anyone had instructed them on how to do this job because it was chaos from the minute we pulled into the area. The prices were not impressive at any of the stores we visited. Disney was typically priced for any of their stores, Old Navy had better sales at our local store than the outlet, Toys R Us was a joke, Janie and Jack had a few good buys, shoe stores didn't impress us either. We had 2 younger children with us that were getting hot and very bored. I wish there had been a few more spots to sit and chill for them. Nike and Abercrombie had some decent buys. Overall, not worth the hassle trying to find a place to park, the stores were overly crowded, merchandise on the floors and not enough people working to keep the check outs moving at a decent pace. I love shopping here every other time I have been here so it must have been the time of the year that made it so underwhelming and yet overwhelming at the same time.

The Old Mill in Pigeon Forge is one of those places that combines history, charm, and great food…read moreall in one stop. Built in 1830, the gristmill has been grinding grain for nearly 200 years, and you can still see the iconic water wheel turning on the Little Pigeon River today. It's a true piece of living history and one of the most photographed spots in the Smoky Mountains. One of the best parts is that the mill is still in operation. The flour and cornmeal ground here are used daily at the Old Mill Restaurant, which serves up some of the best Southern comfort food you'll find in the area. The biscuits, pancakes, and cornbread taste extra special knowing they're made from grain ground right on-site. You can also purchase bags of their flour and mixes at the General Store to take a little piece of Pigeon Forge home with you. The surrounding Old Mill Square adds even more charm, with a pottery shop, candy kitchen, and local boutiques. It's the perfect place to stroll, shop, and soak up the atmosphere. If you're visiting Pigeon Forge, The Old Mill is a must-see--historic, delicious, and unforgettable. https://linktr.ee/reessroots

Many of the Wrangler purses were actually more expensive than what I've seen at local flea markets, and most of the women's Wrangler jeans were priced at $74 and up. I asked the cashier whether the prices on the tags were the final prices or if there was an additional discount, since the TikTok videos were claiming items were around 70% off. Based on what I saw in the store, that definitely wasn't the case for most merchandise. My daughter did find a cute top that I bought for her for about $30, and she also picked out a pair of shorts that were around $45. They did have some discounted merchandise in the back that appeared to be discontinued or older inventory, so there were a few bargains available. Overall, I was surprised by the pricing, especially considering the word "clearance" is part of the store's name. Most of the items I looked at appeared to be regular retail prices rather than clearance prices. While there were some discounted items available, they were the exception rather than the norm.

So, before I used my credit card anywhere, I shopped or bought food (even at restaurants) I asked if I would be charged a service fee. I remember the items I bought at this store and I asked the two ladies if I would be charged. One was wrapping items and the other rang my purchases. I wasn't happy I was told no service fee. Then returned home to do my bills from the trip and saw I was charged 3.4% extra just for using my card. I would have gladly given cash. I feel employees and the owner should be honest about charging this credit card service fee. For this reason, I had to rate this store lower. It's also easy enough to just post a sign at your register saying customers who use credit will be charged a service fee of 3.4%.

The entire property feels like a destination worth taking the time to explore. I loved the relaxed, old-fashioned atmosphere. There's something wonderfully nostalgic about visiting a place centered around apples, cider, country shops, and Smoky Mountain hospitality. Give yourself time to wander because there is more to see here than you might expect. For me, places like this are part of what makes traveling memorable. The big attractions may get most of the attention around Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, but I also love finding stops with their own personality and sense of place. The Apple Barn definitely has both. It's a great addition to a Smoky Mountains itinerary, especially if you enjoy discovering local flavors, browsing for something unique to take home, or simply finding an interesting place away from the area's larger attractions. I also found plenty of charming details that caught my photographer's eye, which always makes a stop even more enjoyable for me. Definitely worth allowing some extra time for this one rather than treating it as a quick stop. I'd gladly return the next time my travels bring me back to the Smokies!
Some attractions sell an experience…read more Some sell a product. The Apple Barn Cider Mill somehow manages to do both. What started as a simple stop turned into one of the more enjoyable experiences of our trip. The star of the visit was our guide, who took us on a cider journey through the various flavors and offerings. She was friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely seemed to enjoy what she was doing. She answered questions, explained the differences between the ciders, and made the tasting experience fun instead of feeling like a sales pitch. And since there's a chance she might somehow see this review: Happy 40th Birthday! Sorry I forgot your name, but your hospitality certainly wasn't forgettable. Now let's talk about the cider. Excellent. There was a large variety of flavors available to sample, making it easy to compare styles and find a favorite. Whether you're new to cider or consider yourself a seasoned enthusiast, there's enough variety here to keep things interesting. After sampling our way through the lineup, we wound up purchasing a glass of the original apple cider and enjoyed it outside. And honestly, that's where the experience really came together. Sitting outside with a fresh cider in hand, playing cornhole and Jenga, enjoying the atmosphere, and slowing down for a little while made for a genuinely relaxing afternoon. No rushing. No crowds pushing you along. Just good cider and good company. We also picked up a growler to bring back to the hotel because one thing became very clear during the tasting process: leaving empty-handed would have been a mistake. The Apple Barn Cider Mill does a great job creating an experience that's welcoming, fun, and memorable without feeling overly commercialized. Great cider. Great staff. Great atmosphere. Five stars. And judging by the growler currently waiting back at the hotel, I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
