So, before I used my credit card anywhere, I shopped or bought food (even at restaurants) I asked if I would be charged a service fee. I remember the items I bought at this store and I asked the two ladies if I would be charged. One was wrapping items and the other rang my purchases. I wasn't happy I was told no service fee. Then returned home to do my bills from the trip and saw I was charged 3.4% extra just for using my card. I would have gladly given cash. I feel employees and the owner should be honest about charging this credit card service fee. For this reason, I had to rate this store lower. It's also easy enough to just post a sign at your register saying customers who use credit will be charged a service fee of 3.4%.

The entire property feels like a destination worth taking the time to explore. I loved the relaxed, old-fashioned atmosphere. There's something wonderfully nostalgic about visiting a place centered around apples, cider, country shops, and Smoky Mountain hospitality. Give yourself time to wander because there is more to see here than you might expect. For me, places like this are part of what makes traveling memorable. The big attractions may get most of the attention around Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, but I also love finding stops with their own personality and sense of place. The Apple Barn definitely has both. It's a great addition to a Smoky Mountains itinerary, especially if you enjoy discovering local flavors, browsing for something unique to take home, or simply finding an interesting place away from the area's larger attractions. I also found plenty of charming details that caught my photographer's eye, which always makes a stop even more enjoyable for me. Definitely worth allowing some extra time for this one rather than treating it as a quick stop. I'd gladly return the next time my travels bring me back to the Smokies!

Some attractions sell an experience…read more Some sell a product. The Apple Barn Cider Mill somehow manages to do both. What started as a simple stop turned into one of the more enjoyable experiences of our trip. The star of the visit was our guide, who took us on a cider journey through the various flavors and offerings. She was friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely seemed to enjoy what she was doing. She answered questions, explained the differences between the ciders, and made the tasting experience fun instead of feeling like a sales pitch. And since there's a chance she might somehow see this review: Happy 40th Birthday! Sorry I forgot your name, but your hospitality certainly wasn't forgettable. Now let's talk about the cider. Excellent. There was a large variety of flavors available to sample, making it easy to compare styles and find a favorite. Whether you're new to cider or consider yourself a seasoned enthusiast, there's enough variety here to keep things interesting. After sampling our way through the lineup, we wound up purchasing a glass of the original apple cider and enjoyed it outside. And honestly, that's where the experience really came together. Sitting outside with a fresh cider in hand, playing cornhole and Jenga, enjoying the atmosphere, and slowing down for a little while made for a genuinely relaxing afternoon. No rushing. No crowds pushing you along. Just good cider and good company. We also picked up a growler to bring back to the hotel because one thing became very clear during the tasting process: leaving empty-handed would have been a mistake. The Apple Barn Cider Mill does a great job creating an experience that's welcoming, fun, and memorable without feeling overly commercialized. Great cider. Great staff. Great atmosphere. Five stars. And judging by the growler currently waiting back at the hotel, I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

I knew I wasn't leaving without at least one book and I found two paperbacks for $5.99 each. Both books from best selling authors that I am excited to read. I highly recommend stopping in to pick out a book! Note: not a moon pie fan so I can't comment on that part of the store.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and there were plenty of maps, brochures, coupons for local attractions, and souvenirs to browse while we planned our adventures. The location is one of its biggest advantages. Compared to the smaller downtown visitor center, I much prefer this one because it's easier to get in and out of, has ample parking, and feels less hectic than navigating the busy Parkway area. It's a convenient stop whether you're heading into Gatlinburg or the national park. One thing to note is the new park parking policy: if you park for more than 15 minutes inside the Smokies, you'll need to purchase a parking tag. I was initially a little frustrated by that, but I understand the need to help support park operations and visitor services. Later, I learned the parking tag revenue goes to the federal government (currently being used on DC projects) rather than staying at this specific visitor center or within the local community, which was disappointing to me personally. Overall, this is a clean, welcoming, and well-organized visitor center that makes a great first stop before exploring the Smokies.

If you're not a Gen X kid from the 80s who grew up on DoH then this place holds zero interest. Cooters is wall to wall shirts, hats, and merchandise from the show. One unique quality is the photo ops in the Hazard Jail, Boars Nest, and then Daisy's Jeep Dixie and of Course the General Lee. Signs say $10 for pictures in the cars but that seemed arbitrary and not really enforced. The service was friendly and welcoming and had I asked the clerk for a pic they probably would have said yes. At the End of the Day I am a 80s kid that had a ton of the merchandise (TV tray, lunchbox, matchbox cars, wrist watch, list goes on and on) so for me it was a treat but nothing to make a special trip for. Also that day Cletus from the show was there, but didn't stay around to meet him but must live in the area. Like I said, it is what it is so don't wonder if you're missing anything.
