Maybe I was hungry, ok I know I was hungry. I was leaving hanging out with some friends and…read moresomeone had said hotdogs. I did a quick search of the area and Hot Dog Heaven, a place I had marked to visit some day, was near by. Online it looked like you could order ahead, but decided to try my luck ordering in person. I arrived to a place that had a handful of customers all in different phases of ordering or waiting for their food. I'm sure it helped that I was hungry, but I ordered fast. 2 dogs to go and the philly steak egg rolls. I had asked, "what's good to eat in the car on the way home?",, a couple people said the egg rolls. They were right. I don't know how they make them, but I would swear they were made in house. Great beef. The hot dogs made it safely home. a tasty Chicago dog and a Polish sausage. the latter was the winner, with its shrooms and sautéed onions. I'm surprised it took me this long to stop in, but it won't be long till I'm back.

Iconic. I can't tell you how many times I've driven by the bright yellow and red (mustard and…read moreketchup??) Hot Dog Heaven and thought I need to stop there sometime. Finally I made it happen. I got the regular Chicago style hot dog, $5.99, what a bargain. The steamed poppyseed bun is loaded with a Vienna, beef hotdog, mustard, relish, onions, pickles, tomatoes, hot peppers, and celery, salt. There are a few barstools inside and outside picnic tables but I chose to devour my dog in my car. Open since 1979 it is the first National Historic Vienna Beef Hotdog stand, who knew there was such an honor? This honor is truly justified for Hot Dog Heaven. Service was quick and pleasant.

Wow... this was a completely unexpected gem…read more Disclaimer: I'm a Canadian living in the Pacific Northwest, and I've almost never found authentic Quebec-style poutine in the U.S. (with one exception). Finding this in Florida honestly felt like that moment in Ratatouille when the critic takes a bite and is transported back to childhood. That's exactly what this felt like. Food: 4.5/5 Hot Chicken Sandwich with Poutine (4.5/5) Shredded chicken breast between slices of bread, absolutely drenched in gravy, with peas on top and a generous side of poutine. Magnifique. I haven't had a hot chicken sandwich like this since growing up in Canada, and wow... this brought me straight back. Thick-cut fries were spot on, and the cheese curds were exactly how poutine should be. Only reason it's not a full 5: the chicken leaned a bit dry, and part of me remembers this dish more with dark meat than white. Popcorn Chicken Poutine (4/5) Crunchy, tender, and satisfying. Same excellent poutine base, which really carries the dish. Service: 4/5 Friendly and helpful. They even gave me a heads-up that the sandwich would be drenched in gravy... which, honestly, is exactly what I was hoping for. Ambiance: Casual and comfortable. Works well for small groups or bigger hangouts. Final Thought: If you're craving real-deal poutine or a nostalgic taste of Canada, this place delivers in a way I didn't expect to find this far south.
