I wanted to bring donuts to the great group of people I'm working with this week and this shop was nearby. Knew it had to be good when I pulled up and there was a good line for drive through. I ordered a dozen glazed and received a box of warm, fresh donuts. Also ordered 1/2 dozen mixed just to add options. I found pricing to be very reasonable and had very nice customer service from an older gentleman. So I brought my two boxes in all happy with myself at doing a good deed and discover someone else brought in Shipleys to share! She chose the pigs in a blanket though so we had a nice variety to offer the team. Quick, fairly priced and tasty! Sweet girl up front, but she didn't seem to know the menu well and didn't double-check our order before ringing it up. We ordered 2 dozen chocolate sprinkled donut holes, 1 dozen chocolate donut holes, 5 sausage & cheese kolaches, 2 chocolate milks, and a blue Gatorade -- over $30 total and my husband didn't even order. Turns out the chocolate sprinkled holes don't exist, then they were also out of the regular chocolate ones, so we had to keep changing the order -- which seemed to need the manager to explain for her. After finally getting our food and pulling away, we realized the chocolate milks were missing and had to go back inside. What was supposed to be a quick, convenient stop turned into a frustrating, drawn-out process for cold, stale, overpriced food that all tasted like cardboard -- except the Gatorade and milks. Lesson learned: we'll stick to local family owned donut shops from now on. Friendlier service, fresher food, and no price gouging for what seems day-old food. read more

HORRIBLE!! This is a legitimate rip-off and shakedown. Ordered a box of donuts and bag of kolaches. The kolaches were all dough with a strip of jalepenio and a cocktail smokie inside. When you bite in, you're left with a gaping hole and a small wiener rolling around inside. We opted to pay extra for the box of donuts to have the filled donuts. The donuts were ALL dough. Friendly service, good product. What can I say? Shipley Do Nuts is a good pick me up of sugar deliciousness in the morning on Highway 377 in Watuaga. The family affectionately calls Highway 377 the "Shipley Highway" based on making the left turn off of Mid Cities Blvd to 377 and seeing Shipley as one of the first businesses that beg for you to make an impulse buy. Though the hours are limited (5:30-12:30 PM daily), Shipley has good choices on its menu that rivals its competitor down the street with the hot doughnut sign. Although the doughnuts are somewhat on the small side, the prices are quite reasonable. 6 assorted doughnuts for $3 and change? Can I get a yummy yum yum for my tummy tum tum? If you are lucky, you can walk across the street to the Beer Barn during business hours. What's not to love: beer and doughnuts. Health Code Violation! So, I like Shipley's Donuts. I would probably buy here more often, if it were closer. Well, I would except for what I just witnessed. While sitting at the drive-thru window waiting for my order to be delivered, I witnessed another customer walk in through the front door. He was apparently not pleased with what was in the bag that he had already walked out of the store and back in with. So the clerk took the food (donuts) out of the bag and put it back in the display shelf to be sold to another customer. Wait, what?!? Really?!? Now the customer probably did not touch the food, but that is beside the point. The fact that the food had been served to the customer and then put back on the shelf to be sold to someone else is a blatant violation of health code. And for good reason! But this food had not simply been handed to the customer and right back. No, he had walked out of the store and back in with it from his car! My question is this: if these guys don't know basic health codes like the one I just saw violated, what other health code violations are going on? Disappointed and cannot say I will go back. This was my go to donut place when I was growing up in Texas, so my husband has always wanted to try it. We started out a few years back when we were visiting my relatives, but never made it, so this trip we were bound to go. The one I always went to was now owned by someone else and wasn't a Shipley's, so we did a quick search and found the closest one and headed for it. There was a bit of a line, so while we were waiting, we could look everything over, we'd decided we'd pick three each. They have a large selection, from the standard glazed to the big cinnamon twist, one of my favorites. I'm from Amarillo. I never new how spoiled I was by Donut Stop. (If you're ever there you *MUST* try it.) We've struggled to find a donut place that comes close to our Amarillo memories. Shipley's is as close as we've found. The donuts are sweet without that weird yeasty aftertaste I get from Krispy Kreme. The icing is generous and has rich flavor. You can tell the difference between them, meaning pink is definitely strawberry while red is definitely cherry. (Maple is my favorite!) The staff here is young, but friendly. It will literally take you less than 5 minutes. This is the only place I get my doughnuts because they are always fresh and everyone here is friendly. Do yourself a favor...GO TO B & B Bakery THAT'S LOCATED ABOUT 1/4 MILE FROM SHIPLEY's!!!! When first moving to town, my husband and I began searching for a good doughnut shop. Every time we drove past Shipley's, there was a line out to the street so we assumed it must be good. We decided to take a chance and see what all the fuss was about. We sat in the drive-through line for over 20 minutes just to place the order, and by the time we made it to the window, they were out of the majority of pretty much everything, and were still four hours from closing, not to mention we waited an extra 10 minutes for our order to be filled! The donuts, and breakfast items we did receive, weren't good- glaze sticky and sickeningly sweet, kolaches were hard like they'd been sitting out for a very long time, drive thru staff was EXTREMELY rude and had no clue as to what was going on. She acted like it was a nuisance we were asking her to box up a whopping 3 WHOLE FREAKING DONUTS. We decided after that experience to find a different bakery and I'm SOOOOOOOO thankful that we did because just up the road (less than a 1/4 mile, located on same side of the road as the $3 Car Wash but further down in one of the shopping strips) from Shipley's was an absolute hidden gem- B and B Bakery. While I hate to risk having all my favorites being bought out before I arrive once people realize it is there, I can't stand the thought of all those people about to throw away their hard earned dollars at Shipley's for crappy wait times, bad food, and even worse service. Not a fancy place by any means, decor is pretty dated, but I took doughnuts to go so that wasn't much of an issue. I went in on a Wednesday at around 10:30 so there was hardly anyone there, mostly because I have friends from Louisiana who fiend this place and are always raving about it (I must have lived in fairly healthy states so far, because my doughnut experience is limited to Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts. The last two towns I lived in actually only had a couple of locations of the latter). Quick service, since I was about the only customer. The doughnuts were GOOD, though, at least to my unrefined doughnut palate. I thought they were as sweet or maybe slightly sweeter than a Krispy Kreme, and about that consistency, but the chocolate filled and Bavarian cream filled flavors I tried were much better than any of KK's filled varieties. $2.99 for a half dozen, so pretty cheap. read more

Best DO nuts I have ever had!!! I used to love Krispy Kreme so one day I had the kids with me and I decided to get a "mix dozen" from Shipleys and then drive down the street to Krispy Kreme and get a half dozen of their "hot" glazed donut. First off, the price at Krispy Kreme was ridiculous! I paid less at Shipleys for a dozen than I did at KK for a half dozen, really? Then when we opened up the KK box the donuts were cold, not as advertised by their "hot" sign. Then I took a bite and literally made up my mind that I will never eat a KK donut again. These doughnuts are worth the drive! I am a huge fan of Shipley's. Let's just be honest.. there kinda isn't another doughnut around like them.. They are excellent cold or hot. That says a lot about a doughnut. My husband and I could eat these daily, good thing they are a ways from our house. Note to self- there is a drive thru!!.. that is a huge plus on a Saturday am when your still sporting your pjs.
