Boston Cream Long John best donut ever
Kimberly L.

Ok I love me some donuts. And I love me some Shipleys. I mean I'm in Houston how can I not? Plus my very favorite donut ever is a Boston Cream but for some reason they are hard to find. Not at this Shipleys! They had these big luscious Boston Cream filled Long Johns that made my heart go pitter pat and my waistband automatically expand. The place is busy and they're limiting customers to 6 inside at a time but they move so quickly and efficiently you don't have to wait long if there's 6 inside. The people are friendly and super awesome and way efficient. Our server got our kolaches warmed and got our donuts and we were on our way so fast I was like are we done already? We were! And I was on my way in my stretchy pants with my tummy best in the world donut!

Shipley's Donuts

Why 5 stars? Because these are the Earth's best donuts. --- --- --- I don't miss a ton about living in Houston... but this is one that occasionally causes some angst. Every time I bite into a pedestrian donut (which are just about all donuts not made at Shipley's) a tear comes to my eye. Sometimes it's just a well-up, sometimes they stream down my face. My thought is: "why oh why did I leave you behind, my sweet, sweet love? Shipley's, you never did anything wrong, and I just HAD to move to Florida's beautiful Gulf Coast. Sure there's a lot of great things there, but nothing like your heavenly friend bread." This is a depressing review, but an important plea to others not to make the same mistake. But for some actual substance - I am a plain glazed or donut holes kinda guy. I don't know how the cream-filled chocolates or the strawberry glazed are, but trust me on this - they just take away from the pure, deliciousness of the standard donut. Less is more. Don't forget those three words: Less. Is. More.

The most amazing donut holes!

Service was fast and friendly but the donuts are the freshest around. I have never had a bad donut here. Also try the kolashes... amazing!!!

I've been going to this Shipley for years. Great service and delicious product. I favor the Old Fashioned Cinnamon roll.

Old rancid oil we couldn't even take two bites of our donuts without gagging. The only saving grace was the kolache.

I really liked this place. I will definitely be back. I wanted to make sure I took pictures of the…read moremenu because it was one of the things I saw missing in the other reviews lately. Prices were higher than what I saw from prior photos. However, staff were super sweet, so kind. I cannot waited to come back. The place was also very clean and felt homey.

All across the state of Texas, there is an abundance of donuts, kolaches, and breakfast taco shops…read more However in League City, this little shop prominently features all three and then some. Literally named after what they do best, this Asian-owned business is a true embodiment of the diversity in our area. And the best part? The food is fabulous. There is a handful of seating but most of the action is through takeout and occasional catering. Parking is never an issue and their big rush usually happens in the morning. It's not out of the ordinary to see a small crowd of folks deciding on their pastry of choice between 7-9am. When in doubt, call ahead of time to ensure availability or to place an order. I would recommend the latter, especially for large orders. They also offer delivery as well through 3rd party companies. The donut selection is pretty classic, but they do a good job with the consistency of the dough and the yeast donuts have a nice bite to them. The old fashioned donuts are straight fire, especially the sour cream and glaze. Their donut holes with frosting and sprinkles are an extra notch up on the sweetness chart and are usually a hit with the youngins. Their jumbo jalapeño kolaches are among the best I've had. There is a little everything in each bite: a hint of spice from the jalapeño, a little bit of salt and savory from the cheese / sausage, and just a tinge of sweetness from the bread. The boudin kolaches are excellent, as are the plain ham and cheese. They even have the sweet kolaches (#original), that are stuffed with cream cheese and fruit filling. They are no taqueria, but their hot breakfast selection is outstanding. From massive breakfast burritos to croissant sandwiches and obviously tacos, they all are stellar options for a morning breakfast or a big group gathering. Their sausage, egg, and cheese croissant is the stuff dreams are made of and the egg, potato, bacon, and cheese tacos / breakfast burritos are bomb. Macaron fans can rejoice, they make them fresh daily. It is one of the most popular items on their menu and are often ordered in boxes upon boxes. Don't be surprised if they're out by the afternoon. Lastly, they have a check-in offer on Yelp for 15% off. This is a good reason as any to come check out one of my favorite family owned and run establishments in the area. Aim for the mornings as they tend to close / run out before 1pm.

A very quick review of my trip to the League City area this weekend. I was on my way to a card show…read moreevent and had the thought of visiting a highly recommended business for a quick bite. I could not miss the chance to visit: Bonnie's Donuts. One reason was thanks to social media and it was on my mind whenever I had the chance. Walking in was a breeze and walking into your local donut shop. Very much a family atmosphere. I was happily greeted and had so many options to choose from. But one thing for sure was the legendary 5 lb cinnamon roll, which was off to the side shelf, and the frosting was brought from the back before I checked out. Of course I also had to try the glazed donuts and grabbed a crème brûlée cronut as well. I did not get a chance to try the cinnamon roll or the cronut but the glazed donut was in the best way to describe it "mouth watering soft" I knew this was going to be amazing after that bite. Overall my visit to Bonnie's Donuts was exceptional. Initially I came in just for the cinnamon roll but left a fan of the business overall. Bonnie and family are great and I felt very welcomed. She did ask if I was planning to eat the cinnamon roll right away or later? She was very informative and teaching me how to reheat it and the same for the frosting as well. What was also nice was the additional donut fritter included. I definitely would recommend it without a doubt as your go to donut shop if you are family local donut shop. I just wished I wasn't living so far to regularly come in but when I am in the area, I would choose this versus any other place by far. *small note* Now I'm not sure if this is scientifically proven or because this was a very specific day, I had left my donuts in my car for almost half the day. But I decided to grab another one at night, it still tasted just the same as I got it in the morning but the glaze was more thicker. Because typically, donuts would harden up and the glaze would clump up but not this one. That automatically gets my seal of approval.
