I ordered the smores latte they had on special and I would have to say it was everything and more than I was expected. The drink had actual marshmallow fluff that was toasted on top and then chocolate syrup on top of that. Amazing! Our service was quick and the drive through make it very simple. read more

It's cute and convenient. We did wait a while to get to the window so I was a little nervous about the service but immediately, I was put to ease by the kindness of the woman who took my order. We ordered an iced mocha and a hot pumpkin spiced latte, as well as two blue berry muffins. Everything was amazing. read more

Friendly people and service was great. I was in Vandailia for a wedding and always look for local coffee shops. Love the reuse of the old shipping container. Like the outdoor seating. Only reason not a five star was the seating area was in the middle of the drive through area. As I sat outside on a hot morning with a nice breeze in a little shade had to sit beside cars idling because it was warm. And a diesel truck for about five minutes. Would've been nice if there would have been seating near the parking area where there were some lovely shade trees. Highly recommend! read more

It was okay. Not worth the 20 minute stop off the highway-- there was only one car in front of us in line and it took quite a long time to process their order before proceeding. The cold brew was decent, but the Midwest hospitality I was expecting from a small, local business was severely lacking. read more

What a great and cute place! Driving through we saw the billboard and decided to stop. It's an easy jump off the highway, with nice pull-up service. Staff was great and very accommodating. Delicious caramel mocha! I love the little sticker they put over the hot tea to keep it from spilling. Will be back! read more

I haven't seen a drive thru coffee stand since leaving Washington state, so imagine my excitement when we saw the billboard for Shimoji while driving through Illinois. I love Shimoji Coffee! No fake stuff here. All their syrups & flavorings are made from real ingredients. Their spiced chai tea is made with real spices and tea, brewed together in a masterful blend that no boxed mix can compete with! Pumpkin spice latte made with....wait for it... actual pumpkin & spice! All their drinks are delicious and the baristas are eager to customize anything. What a nice treat! I can't label myself as a true coffee connoisseur, but I can tell you that the white mocha latte I had here was one of the best tasting coffees I've had in a while. It was so good I almost turned around to tell the staff how good it was! The place is... not even a place but a little shack. Think snow cone shack. The lady running it told me about how passionate the owner was about the coffee they served. All the syrups they used where made from scratch, the white mocha was made from cocoa butter. I honestly wasn't expecting much from this little shack, but my first sip made me sigh audibly. This is worth a small detour on your trip on 70! read more

BEST COFFEE EVER-LITERALLY Homemade and SO delicious!!! My husband was working on the road and we happened to be staying in Vandalia. I am an AVID coffee drinker. In fact if i'm in a town equipped with Starbucks you'll probably see me there at least two times a day :o I thought I would give this place a shot and, holy cow. Not sure if that was the best decision because I live 500+ miles away :( This coffee is 100,000 X's better than Starbucks and the STAFF, so sweet and knowledgeable. What a great coffee shop. I wish there were more locations, I will be coming back every time I am near!! read more

Saw their ad on I-70 and decided to stop. We were very happy with the coffee frappe and lemonade. The coffee frap was made with real espresso and was not too sweet. The lemon squash had a whole lemon and was very refreshing. Blueberry muffins look very fresh so I can't wait to have them for breakfast. This little drive through was a great find! read more

The girls in the stand were quite friendly and polite. I love that they made a coffee stand from up cycled shipping containers! Such a cool idea. The menu was pretty standard but they did offer things like bubble tea that I have yet to come across in other shops. I am a sucker for unique menu items. Only rating with four stars because they didn't have much of a selection for breakfast foods (bagels, croissants, breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal) that you typically find in most shops. The staff at Shimoji on Tuesday May 30 & Sunday June 4 were my roadside angels. On a long drive across country I need to rest for 30 minutes and pulled off I-70. While looking for a place to park I found Shimoji Coffee and pulled up. I told Rachel I needed to get heavily caffeinated as I still had another 6 hours drive to reach my destination for the night. She fixed me up, I stayed alert, not buzzed, and reached my hotel just fine. I did the same thing on my way home Sunday with a four hour drive ahead of me. But the remarkable thing about Sunday is that I pulled into line after they closed. They kept the window open and served me anyway. A great pick-me-up and a great crew. Thank you! read more

I've been consistently impressed with the quality and service at Shimoji. The cold brew is good, the cappuccinos are great, and the sodas are a nice fresh departure from a typical coffee bar menu. The quality in general is a step up from Starbucks, and the location is convenient if you're doing any shopping in Vandalia. I highly recommend stopping in! They haven't been around long, but I'd be happy to see them get enough business to stick around for the long haul. read more

Cute drive-up only little coffee house, and more-than-five-star service! The young woman taking orders made intelligent recommendations to these first-time customers after asking a couple of questions about what we liked. She also did a wonderful job of telling us why Shimoji was different, the all-natural ingredients, the homemade soda, the locally-roasted beans, etc. The Irish Cream coffee was terrific! Totally worth pulling off the interstate to find them, and will definitely stop again the next time we're in Vandalia. read more

Fast and friendly with high quality coffee! We own a coffee shop in San Diego so we love to support local wherever we go. This place did not disappoint! It was hopping with 4 cars in line at 2 in the afternoon but the service was fast. We purchased some beans to enjoy at home too. So when you pay 8 bucks for a yogurt parfait, they probably aren't spending that much on yogurt for 30 tubs. Also their "homemade cakes" they're a box mix so same situation. The employees were rude and snobbish to the driver. I'm not going back. I hope everyone avoids them. I get businesses have to make a profit but this was too much for my eyes to witness.

I think we've now experienced all the aspects of this fine establishment: the beer, the whiskey,…read morethe food, and the overnight accommodations! I highly recommend all of the above. We recently got a room at the Red Rooster; booking online was easy and prices were reasonable. We were in town on Christmas Day, so the bar (brewery, distillery, restaurant) was closed. We didn't see any staff; we had a key code for the building and for our room. Our room was upstairs, and a couple of staircases were available (I don't recall whether there's an elevator). Everything was clean and cozy. After going out for the night, we thought we'd enjoy the lounge area and game room, but the game room wasn't accessible (turns out it's part of the bar). The lounge space was available; there weren't a lot of lights on except for those on the Christmas tree and other decorations, which was just fine for sitting a bit. Checkout the next morning was easy, and we were cheerfully greeted by staff when we came down. About the bar: on more recent visit we stopped in for dinner. Patrons were enjoying the patio and bar space; an adjoining room, game room, and loft space were also available. We took barstools and received great service there. Restaurant: Order food with your server and you'll get a text when it's ready; pick up is at the window in the game room. The 1/4 pound burger seemed to be a bit less so; it was a thin "smashed" burger with cheddar and some really good sauce, on a bun that was unnecessarily coated in butter or oil. Side salad was fresh and crispy, and house-made ranch was exceptionally good. Fries are the coated-double-fried sort, and served plenty hot. Every dish we tried was tasty. Distillery: so far all that's ready to serve is "white whiskey" -- raw unaged spirits with quite a kick! We tried it on the rocks and it was as expected; I'll wait for some aging before I have it in a cocktail, but I love that the option's available! Brewery: The beer list was impressive -- although there may be a mistake, as the Chava Wheat was marked as "gluten sensitivity friendly" (I'm pretty sure wheat is pretty gluteny!) That one--Chava Wheat--is a blood orange wheat "with a hint of raspberry" and was easily my fave. They brew several lagers and IPAs, a stout, and seasonals. This is a great one-stop for a night out, a road trip stop, or a small-town getaway for city folks! To make a longer day of it, shop Main Street, take in a show at the theater, and grab breakfast at one of the nearby cafés the next morning. Cheers!

Hundreds of Hops self-guided US Hop Passport Tour Amazing Brewery Race Stop 1 of 2 for ILLINOIS…read more We drove about 1.5hrs to hit one of the two add-on breweries for Illinois in the Hop Passport. Due to the weird Illinois laws on alcohol, they offered 10% off foid/merch in the book. The staff was unfamiliar with the passport & called overall 2nd staff person. They said it wasn't valid -discount denied. We still opted to eat & drink here. Each of us selected a beer and a dish. I went with the rooster salad, which was an excellent flavor combination & I really needed something greens! The chicken on it, however, was dry and took away from the salad - so, I took it off & enjoyed my salad without the chicken. The hubs opted for the grown-up grilled cheese and it was pretty tasty. Exactly what it sounds like. As this location probably doesn't see much in the way of the Hop Passports, it's not too shocking that they weren't aware of it. The prices were plenty reasonable enough to not feel put out by it either. The entire place is quirky, with "Easter eggs" throughout, a fun / tasty menu & an overall good vibe. It's certainly a gorgeous stop.
