Friendly fast service .... Food was good...restaurant was clean..... will definitely be back

We stopped at Denny's today for breakfast on our travels. We found that the restaurant was extremely clean and the staff was very attentive. Our waitress went above and beyond her duties help us explaining the menu and helping us put our breakfast together. The manager came out and greeted us, which made it a little extra special. Food was hot fast and beyond what we expected. Made our travels that much more enjoyable. If you are traveling 57 make yourself happy by taking a moment and stopping at this Denny's in Salem Illinois. You will not be disappointed. read more

I stopped here once before and did indeed enjoy eating here back then. This visit would possibly be the worst service I have ever received and I am 60 now. My server was Kameren and if you try going here, ask for different server. Some other guests from the hotel went to eat here too. They did get better service and came in after me and got done before me. All I ordered was à build your own burger, nothing special or hard to make. I waited for fifteen minutes for the bill, and sixteen dollars for a burger is too much. Skip this place and go to the king right near by. Only in the morning on weekdays, service then is excellent but weekends it is not as good. Denny's still gives 10 to 15% off on your meal if you are an AARP member. read more

Many things have much improved since our previous review. Service has been great and most of the servers automatically know where we prefer to sit and the reason for it. Restrooms are much better maintained than six years ago; still a little "ew" after rush periods, but that's going to be the case at any restaurant adjacent to an Interstate. Food is good, but lunch and dinner selections turned expensive in 2024 and are getting worse. Dinner under $40 for the two of us is a challenge, and that's not including tip. Food quality is mostly unchanged, although I have come to like the lasagna which is a recent addition. read more

Spent most of the day trying to leave Illinois and needed something to eat before we were through. This property abuts the local Days Inn and sits behind the Quality Inn and Suites. Denny's is about the best place to go when you don't know what you want to eat since they have just about everything. Fresh hot black coffee with a side of iced water... Crazy Spicy Skillet has a 5-pepper sauce plus pepper jack queso plus more cheese on grilled chicken breast on a bed of chorizo, japs, taters, plus roasted onions and bells. Toss a little Louisiana Gold on that and you'll be alright. Totchos to go were the perfect night cap. read more

Stopped through at 2am during a 7 hour road trip. Craving a cheeseburger plus needed something to keep me up. MANE!!!! Hand down the best burger EVA ! Two weeks later I'm backkkk! Hello Salem, IL and hello Denny's We don't have Denny's where I live (Memphis & Mississippi) you better believe I checked. Everyone is so friendly here. I was concerned about going into an unknown establishment at 2am, but was greeted by the "sweetest" person who put me at ease. I didn't need a menu, "Please bring me a cheeseburger." That night cook is a Svengali of Burgers, a Wizard on the Grill (it's Salem, IL). My burger was hot, the patty was perfectly seasoned and my fries were perfect! I got home around 6am with 1/2 a burger. My husband finished it off at 9am when he got off of work and the spell was cast (It's Salem, IL). Today we ordered the cheeseburger, fries, strawberry smoothie and strawberry cheesecake puppies. We are happy, full and satisfied. The magic happen again. 2-17-2023 My wife & I stopped for lunch driving home from New Orleans. My 1st thought stepping through the door was: "WOW! This place looks great!". As we ate I studied the store decor, cleanliness, & condition. Everything was immaculately clean and the entire interior looked brand-new from tile grout to ceiling paint, table booth to seat covers. The staff, service, & food only added to the 1st impression of a great place to get good food on the road. Stopped in at 4am. Only customers in the building. Out server, Danny, was wonderful. Knowledgeable with the menu and the area.

The Salem Denny's is located in a relatively new building and the management has maintained a clean and neat atmosphere. We live locally and tonight enjoyed our supper there. It was delicious, and was served quickly and efficiently. Kelsey, our server, gave us great suggestions on the menu and was friendly and thorough without "bugging" us. Clean tables, floors and very polite and friendly staff. All of our breakfast food was great and didn't have to wait long. We were pulling a 5th wheel camper and was concerned about parking. There is plenty of parking and it was easy to get back on the interstate. We will definitely eat here again. read more

The food is okay, but the service is excellent. We've been here several times and our latest visit they were extremely busy. Our server, Ana, was hopping around everywhere - making sure none of their customers felt the stress she was no doubt experiencing. She was seating people, bringing out drinks/food, checking on people, and cashing people out. She not only did it all, but maintained such a friendly and pleasant attitude the entire time. Each time we come in, Ana treats us like old friends. She keeps us coming back time and again because she creates the most welcoming and fun atmosphere. Ana is a great server. Just gave it 100 percent but what I really don't like about restaurants and their servers is that when the server puts the tab on the table right when I finish my plate. Then the server says no rush, but I really do feel rushed by the server. Most times I go to dennys to have small meetings with my partner about business matters but I feel rushed when I get the tab right when we finish our meals; giving me the feeling of vacating the table. I really wish the restaurant industry would change this approach. read more

I come here all the time with my mom and one waitress named Ana is especially amazing. Most staff i see working are hispanic and for me and my mother, it's reassuring to have people serving us who we can easily communicate with. Ana is our server most time we go in and eat breakfast, and she's incredible welcoming and chatty. She's really fast and quick with her job. Overall, her service and that of the other employees is great, and will continue to be make customers feel welcome and tended to. Every time I dine in at this location in Salem, I get the same male server and he's very lazy, he doesn't refill drinks and he has a very bad attitude. He spends more time on his phone snd talking to the female servers than he does doing his job! The cutlery is always dirty and the drinks taste watered down. The food is either under cooked or burnt and they refuse to remake it when it's messed up. read more

At this particular Denny's restaurant, everyone seems to know each other that live in Salem. Of course, being that I am from out of town, I felt somewhat uncomfortable here since I felt like I was intruding at someone's home. However, the ultimate skillet that I ordered was still good, but the old plastic coke cup full of water was a turn off. You could obviously tell that the cup needed to be retired because the cup looked dirty and had been washed beyond its life expectancy. read more

Food and service in restaurant = 4.5 stars. Bathroom = 0 stars. Holy crap (pardon the pun)! I figure bathrooms are cleaner than kitchen, since the public sees the bathroom. The women's room was disgusting. The bathroom is inside an adjoining run-down hotel, and the fixtures show it, but the bathroom clearly has had little cleaning attention for awhile. When I mentioned this to the front desk they said Dennys is responsible for the restroom. I mentioned it to the Denny's manager. He said he'd send a worker to handle it. I wish I'd insist he go check it himself. I hope he'd be appalled, as was I. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here at 2:30 in the morning in the middle of a long drive. The place was empty. Our hosts were a super friendly kid with a name tag that read "Big Papa," and his friend that didn't work there, Chad. Big Papa waxes philosophic on comic books with the best of em. Chad works at the Walgreens distribution center and agrees with my sentiment about Anne Hathaway's ass in the last Batman movie. We all talked about sci fi and netflix. A good time was had by all. I got a darkly toasted bagel with cream cheese and an over medium egg, fashioned into a sandwich. My partner in crime got a chicken sandwich with seasoned fries. Everything was delicious, but the real gem is the employees. Tip them well. They're good dudes. read more

This place has completely bombed since it moved to their new location. Their service wasnt good before and now it has gotten worse. The food has gotten worse. The last two times we have been there, my poor daughter, who loves their spaghetti, has received cold food. I wont be returning soon. read more

Probably my worst Denny's experience. Ordered 2 eggs and ~maybe~ got one. Not only did the food taste terrible, but it was an uncomfortable experience. Many of the other customers glared at my family (my father is black, my mother is white) and made rude comments about "a black man" having no place here. Food was pretty good but fairly expensive for what you get. Two eggs & country fried steak was $10.59 when we were here. Better bet is to get one of the pancake breakfasts or supreme skillets...either is under $8, so it's cheaper AND bigger amount of food than the two eggs and country fried steak. I am very partial to Denny's, especially ours, I have worked there for almost 6 yrs and I know that we may not always get it right or have the quickest service but I do know that it's definitely not for the sake of trying, we work very, very hard to keep our customers happy and coming back but sometimes it's hard to see it when we are running around like a crazy person but really we are just trying to keep up with all of the different tasks we have to do but underneath all that craziness is an employee that really just cares a lot about her/his job and the customers we get to serve. So for starters our waitress was not very friendly , and there was only like 3 waitresses in the restaurant. when our food finally did come there so much wrong with it. I ordered spaghetti and I knew that it would be a small amount bc I got it from the kids menu but there was not even a half of a bowl in it. they were out of vanilla ice cream so no birthday cake shake or Oreo shakes, so we got the chocolate shake. she told us that they ran out of chocolate two so there was only enough for 2 kids sized shakes. we order bananas for our side, the Bananas were wet. we were going to get apples but they were out of apples too. read more

Changing review to 1 star! Hey management! Listen up! Every time I'm here the waitress vacuums right next to my table while I am eating! Ridiculous! Don't they know how many germs are thrown into the air?l while vacuuming? Should someone inquire to The food inspectors and food handlers associations about the health hazards this can have? And for dinner, Cheesy mashed potatoes were instant...how sad. They didn't even toast my English muffin!!! Ordered rib eye and pretty sure I got overlooked sirloin. My salad was leafless, mostly chopped ends, the cucumbers were previously frozen and now are see through ...I always tell my waitresses that I am gluten free but four times now they brought my salad covered in croutons, and twice was treated rudely for saying " I can't have that, I am allergic to gluten"...and had two more understanding but uneducated waitresses but... that's just not enough.
