I happen to be driving through Illinois and saw this on Google maps. It is definitely worth the detour off the interstate. What a great little brewery. Super friendly staff. They sell liquor as well and had a nice bourbon selection. You can carry food if you like. Small brewery in the basement level that was visible from the first level seating room.

FIVE PLUS STARS! What a great brewery in a beautiful building in a cute town. The owners were so friendly, chatted with us a bit and gave us some great info about other businesses. They definitely support the small biz community. Beer was fantastic, started with a flight and moved on to full pours. Fermented Sour was awesome. Hubby loved the IPA. We were passing through for a work trip so if I have to do it again, no doubt we will be stopping here.

    We love a great flight!

Really cool place to come and chill out! Lots of interesting beers and they also have signature drinks.

Custom flight (choose four 7 oz.) was great.

Was here from Texas visiting relatives and this place is fantastic. The atmosphere is super chill and the selection was great. Really good to see small businesses like this revitalizing this town. I hope to see them continue strong!

Lemon Shady and Big Muddy! Excellent brew!

I think we've now experienced all the aspects of this fine establishment: the beer, the whiskey,…read morethe food, and the overnight accommodations! I highly recommend all of the above. We recently got a room at the Red Rooster; booking online was easy and prices were reasonable. We were in town on Christmas Day, so the bar (brewery, distillery, restaurant) was closed. We didn't see any staff; we had a key code for the building and for our room. Our room was upstairs, and a couple of staircases were available (I don't recall whether there's an elevator). Everything was clean and cozy. After going out for the night, we thought we'd enjoy the lounge area and game room, but the game room wasn't accessible (turns out it's part of the bar). The lounge space was available; there weren't a lot of lights on except for those on the Christmas tree and other decorations, which was just fine for sitting a bit. Checkout the next morning was easy, and we were cheerfully greeted by staff when we came down. About the bar: on more recent visit we stopped in for dinner. Patrons were enjoying the patio and bar space; an adjoining room, game room, and loft space were also available. We took barstools and received great service there. Restaurant: Order food with your server and you'll get a text when it's ready; pick up is at the window in the game room. The 1/4 pound burger seemed to be a bit less so; it was a thin "smashed" burger with cheddar and some really good sauce, on a bun that was unnecessarily coated in butter or oil. Side salad was fresh and crispy, and house-made ranch was exceptionally good. Fries are the coated-double-fried sort, and served plenty hot. Every dish we tried was tasty. Distillery: so far all that's ready to serve is "white whiskey" -- raw unaged spirits with quite a kick! We tried it on the rocks and it was as expected; I'll wait for some aging before I have it in a cocktail, but I love that the option's available! Brewery: The beer list was impressive -- although there may be a mistake, as the Chava Wheat was marked as "gluten sensitivity friendly" (I'm pretty sure wheat is pretty gluteny!) That one--Chava Wheat--is a blood orange wheat "with a hint of raspberry" and was easily my fave. They brew several lagers and IPAs, a stout, and seasonals. This is a great one-stop for a night out, a road trip stop, or a small-town getaway for city folks! To make a longer day of it, shop Main Street, take in a show at the theater, and grab breakfast at one of the nearby cafés the next morning. Cheers!

Due to the weird Illinois laws on alcohol, they offered 10% off foid/merch in the book. The staff was unfamiliar with the passport & called overall 2nd staff person. They said it wasn't valid -discount denied. We still opted to eat & drink here. Each of us selected a beer and a dish. I went with the rooster salad, which was an excellent flavor combination & I really needed something greens! The chicken on it, however, was dry and took away from the salad - so, I took it off & enjoyed my salad without the chicken. The hubs opted for the grown-up grilled cheese and it was pretty tasty. Exactly what it sounds like. As this location probably doesn't see much in the way of the Hop Passports, it's not too shocking that they weren't aware of it. The prices were plenty reasonable enough to not feel put out by it either. The entire place is quirky, with "Easter eggs" throughout, a fun / tasty menu & an overall good vibe. It's certainly a gorgeous stop.

He's created an atmosphere--and product--that makes me want to stick around awhile. In fact, for our last visit we got carry-out food from an Italian restaurant in town and enjoyed it at MC's bar so we could make an evening of it. The mood in the room is comfortable, with high ceilings, dark wood, and just enough warm lighting. The music is cool; Tracy knows what works in the space and creates a nice vibe. Printed menus are readily available, listing current house beers, guest taps, and can and bottle offerings. They also have a nice cocktail menu featuring house-made cordials and such. And the beer--it's really good! They specialize in oak-fermented ales, and seem to know what they're doing and take pride in their work. A couple farmhouse ales hit the spot on a recent hot day. My fave on the menu was the Orange Peeler saison, and I regret not bringing home some cans (the first beer they've canned, I believe.) They also have some collabs with Perennial Artisan Ales available in bottles; those did come home with us. Another beer that's not currently on the menu, but I enjoyed a few months ago: Fuzzy Guitars, an oak-aged saison with blackberries. There's always something new and interesting here, as well as beers worth coming back to each time. Also a hit for me: the cocktails and mocktails. I chose a cocktail off the menu (the name of it escapes me... something about a worm) that involved tequila, absinthe, vermouth, and... I don't know what else but it was perfectly balanced and lovely to sip. I followed that up with a flavored soda that was also top-notch. Mississippi Culture is hosting events, including live music and trivia nights--I'm looking forward to returning for those soon.

Cypress Grove has a farm store as well, and as of 2019, a side business as a brewery. A bit of digging through online newspaper articles showed that the owners were partners in the original iteration of 1905 Brewing Company in town, but left the partnership when that bar burned down in 2019. Now they make beer out on their farm, offering it by the cup, crowler, and growler in their farm store. Plenty of picnic tables and lawn chairs were spread under large oak trees on the lawn. They have food trucks on the premises on select weekends; for our visit, just brats and chips were available, plus meat and cheese from the farm store. Guests are warmly greeted, and welcome to stroll around the property to see the fields and cattle. During our COVID-era visit, masks were worn indoors and parties were safely distanced outside. The beers we tried were excellent, including an Irish Red, a "Trials and Tritical-ations" experimental pale ale, and a couple sours. We took home some crowlers, including a "Pork Snout Milk Stout" which really is infused with pork... interesting, but not for me! Cypress Grove was definitely worth driving a few miles off our planned trek through Christian County. It's a lovely setting with friendly folks and great brews.

All four of us got something different (I think one was a blueberry beer of some sort... but don't quote me on that), and all the drinks were so good, that we had to pass them around for the other others to try! Ended up going down the menu and ordering another one for each of us, so we got to try eight drinks in total and all of them were epic! The bartender was super sweet, and right there, even though the establishment was pretty busy, as soon as one glass got down to 1/4, he'd come by and ask if we were ready for another, but wasn't intrusive as much as just making sure we were OK and seeing if we needed anything. He was there and gone in a flash, as I think, he thought that since we were two couples, he didn't want to interrupt any conversations, but wanted to make sure we were taken care of. We made sure to tip him well. The restaurant was clean, the bathrooms were fantastic, especially for a late evening out at an establishment that serves liquor, it felt like a high-quality establishment, but in no way did we feel out of place, nor were we made to feel out of place. If anything is the exact opposite. The bartender made it where it was very warm and welcoming in a good place to socialize for us. We will definitely be back! Next time and time to try the food too!

The menu was straight to the point (they have hummus) and that makes me feel like you're sharing your favorite dishes consistently. The drink menu is extensive (because it's a distillery) and there are so many unique things you can try. I had the blackberry lemon press and it was yummy. We also had the sloppy fries, smash burgers (one with signature bacon jam), onion rings, cheesecake, and carrot cake. It was all very flavorful. They have a store attached if you want to take some drinks home & they have a virgin menu for your Christian friends. The dining room is well lit and you can eat outside on good weather days. Even in bad weather days, it's a nice view outside with only glass between you and outdoors. Staff were great and service was timely. I would say the food is cooked to order & you don't need to tell them how to prepare a burger. It comes out juicy and medium well to perfection. They also have a BBQ kick to the ketchup they serve. Oh, there's a Rte 66 sign around the corner if you're just passing through (but I get the sense they know if you're not from around those parts). Scanning the food places we picked this because it seemed to have decent ratings and a lot of reviews. Plus, you get go wrong with good ol' American cuisine. The first kind of hiccup is that they must have recently moved building. Though they moved right next to their existing building, there was no signage and we had to rely on our own eyeballs. Which almost led us into the wrong building. Not a bid deal, realistically, but it threw us for a loop. Getting inside, it was super clean. Long bar, plenty of tables, modern, many tvs for many sports. Plus, the building itself seemed rather large. A chonker of a building, if you ask me. Our hostess brought us into what seemed like the back 40 of the building and seated us next to a garage door that overlooked a cement pad that will one day be a cement pad with things on it. Not even mad. Saw a train. Here's the money shot. Have you ever been happy adjacent? Have you ever been right up to the edge, the precipice, the peak, then turn around and leave? That was kind of the ideal feeling here. The ambiance and service and general-ness of the entire place was spot on. The food itself looked top-tier. But it felt a click away from perfection. Let's look into it. As a hefty man (fat, not the garbage bag brand), I'm a man of appetizers. Also of wings. Therefore, sign me up for 12 bone in wings for an app. Split into three flavors: Carolina BBQ, Buffalo, and regular BBQ. They came out looking and smelling delicious. The sauce flavors hit hard. But I was a little let down with the dryness of the wings. I know sometimes it can be difficult to knock a wing out of the park because those damn things just want to get crispy. But I don't want to fight chewing the meat off the bone. It felt like a battle me and my mush mouth would lose. Now, from what I understood, all sides were a la cart. Color me fine with that, fatty will order anyways. Especially since I saw they offered street corn AND hushpuppies. So naturally, that's what I ordered. The hushpuppies came out and were the round kind. Which I am no stranger to. They had good flavor, good done-ness, but missed the mark on the size. If they were hush people, they would have been premies. A little sad they didn't get to experience their full potential. Now, for this part I will say I was forewarned. My server did mention the street corn came in a bowl and was served cold. I thought I was better than somebody who judged street corn by its temperature. I was wrong. It did come cold. And because of that, it was not tasty. Missed the mark completely. I did get a bonus side, your typical, run of the mill French fry. They came out and looked great. Meadiu
