Great food, particulary the lamb curry with coconut rice and the pork belly tacos. Service was very good.

Nepalese food is similar to Indian cuisine - there are spicy dishes and the same sorts of flavours come through. I like testing out the vegetarian options and have fallen in love with the dishes containing chickpeas (bizarre I know), they seem to taste better when they are covered in spicy curry. There are several venues around the city but seeing as I like Bridge Road I usually dine at their café there. The atmosphere is really laid back so its perfect for large groups of people and children too, I'm always impressed by the numbers of families that come to Gurkhas for some tasty Nepalese food - mind you, the kids always seem to be well behaved. Expect great service and knowledgeable suggestions about what to choose off the menu from the wait staff.

This Nepalese restaurant has been on Chapel Street longer than I have and already had a good crowd when I arrived a little after 6pm, so presumably it's doing something right. The waitress gave me a wicker basket with a couple of papadums and a little bowl of spicy dipping sauce as soon as I sat down which was really tasty and quite hot (curry based I think, not chilli). For entree I ordered the tandoor prawns. This was a skewer of six pieces on a bed of saffron rice and a side salad. Very tasty, and very good value at just $12. Speaking of good value, they have cocktails on the drinks menu at an average price of $9 each so I ordered a Brandy Alexander to sip on while I checked out the rest of the menu. This is pretty extensive but as I hadn't eaten here before I ordered the Mixed Entree Platter for $22. This included a lamb cutlet, Momo (steamed chicken dumplings with a spicy dipping sauce - yum), Pakauda - potato fritters served with a plum sauce - and another potato dish called Singada which are curry puffs served with plum and tamarind sauce. This was washed down with a Gorkhali - honey, Frangelico, Bailey's, Creme de Cacao and cream - which for $10.90 was one of the more expensive cocktails. And yes, it tasted as good as it sounds. Can't imagine why it's taken me so long to get to Gurkha's, but I'll definitely be back. Lovely food, cosy atmosphere, good service and cheap cocktails. What's not to like?

5 stars for the food!!! Seriously delicious. But after having to ask for water twice, then sitting there with an empty glass, having to ask for our bill, then waiting 10 minutes to get the bill, then another 10 for them to come back to get our credit card, it was a little frustrating. And no, it wasn't that busy. We were the first customers of the evening, maybe 5 or 6 tables by the time we were ready to leave. But the food was SO good. Maybe the servers were having an off night??? If not, they need to up their game!

There seemed like a lot of variety; some of the "old faithfuls" from Indian restaurants, and also some new-to-us dishes on the Nepalese side. We walked in and were the first group to dine for the night. It's got a nice decor about it, without being too fancy, and we were warmly greeted and promptly seated at the table. They gave us enough time to browse through the menu after having explained a few dishes, which was helpful, and came to take our orders. Considering we - at that stage - were the only diners, it took a little while for the entrees to come out. Yes, they do Uber or Deliveroo or one of them, but there wasn't plentiful orders coming through at one go. Eventually the entrees came out and they smelled great and tasted good too. Mine - a salmon dish - was the last to come out. I cut into it, and low and behold, it wasn't salmon (in all honesty, it was the reason for ordering that dish). I could tell this immediately by the colour and was disappointed. The waitress came over and explained they had "run out of salmon" (so early in the night) and they used Baramundi. Firstly, I'm glad it was a fish I could actually eat (because I can't eat all fish) and secondly, why did no one say anything before prepping it?? What if I didn't want it anymore? They asked me - once it was in front of me - if I wanted it still and I actually didn't want it, but refused to keep waiting and waiting for them to cook something new. So I ate it, and luckily it was tasty. I would have thought as goodwill, they might have said, "here's a free beverage", or "we'll take it off your bill", but there was no amends to this. When the mains came out, they were all delicious and prepared how we requested. There wasn't a whole lot of room on the table for the dishes, but the meal itself was good. The mango chicken was actual mango sauce and so delectable. The things I didn't like about Aagaman was the way they handled the situation with my entree, and I didn't like how the waitresses/owner would shout out things to the kitchen from inside the restaurant. We'd hear "they're still waiting for ... " often or things to that affect. But what I did like was the taste of the food. It was really good and reasonably priced. The people were friendly and the restaurant was well lit (lamps at your table) and it had space in it and not cramped like some places can be. Parking might be a problem during the year on busy Saturday nights, but this one - straight after Christmas - parking was easy. Would I recommend coming here to eat? Yes, I would. And I look forward to coming back again, maybe in winter.
