Adam's Garage Doors

Adam's Garage Doors

(15 reviews)

I called Adam to install two new garage doors on a new construction house. He came out to look at…read morethe job and measure up the openings. He seemed really nice and said he would come back and install the doors in about two weeks on 12/28/2017. He required a $1000 down payment for the garage doors so I wrote him a check. Adam contacted me 1/20/18 saying he was having some family issues and would get back to me on the Monday to schedule the installation. I have tried to contact Adam multiple times a week ever since 1/20/18 and he refuses to answer texts or voicemails. I feel he has stolen my $1000 down payment since I have not heard back from him for over a month and won't communicate with me. I hope Adam communicates with me so this problem gets rectified, otherwise I would be very cautious about hiring him!

I purchased an $89 Amazon Local voucher for tune-up, roller replacement, and alignment. Service…read moretech came out within one day, which is where my good review of the company ends. My garage door has been out of alignment for awhile. One side of the garage is raised about one inch off the ground when the door is closed. You could literally see the garage door coming out of alignment every time it went down, if you paid attention. I was also missing one of the rollers and the door was slightly loud. Seeing as I know very little about garage doors, I figured I would get the voucher and have the "experts" handle the situation. My service call got off to a bad start when I explained that the garage door was out of alignment. The service technician took a glance at the door (from 10 feet away) and stated, "No it's not. Your concrete is uneven." The concrete is not uneven. It is perfectly straight from one end to the other. Maybe not level, but that is another issue and that is why the rollers are made the way they are (as I found out later through research). Don't you think a garage door "expert" would take some measurements to make sure that a door closes evenly? Anyways, I let the service technician do his thing. 30 minutes later he shows me that he lubed the track and replaced the rollers. He puts the garage door up and I close it. He then leaves me with an unaligned garage door, $10 in new rollers, and some grease on the track. Cut to 3 hours later. I come outside to open my garage door. I press the button. The motor engages for a split-second and then reverses direction. After several times trying the door, I cannot get it to work. I call the next day and leave a message that my garage door no longer works. Mind you, my garage door has worked every day for the past 8.5 years since I moved into the house. I receive a callback the next day from Adam, the owner. I explained the situation, that my garage is still unaligned, and that it no longer works. I explained that I did not want the same service technician to look at my garage. Adam told me that he'd be to my residence between 4 and 6pm. Adam got to my residence at 8:30pm, which made my wife mad, but I was just happy that he came out. When I showed Adam the unaligned garage, he glanced at it and stated, "It's not out of alignment, your concrete is uneven." Well, I knew where this service call was going to go. I showed him the problem with my garage door not opening. He presses the button a few times and tells me that the capacitor on the garage door is bad and that I need a new garage door opener. Mind you, he didn't take anything apart to come to this conclusion. He stated that my garage door opener is over 12 years old and that these things happen. I asked him if it was a coincidence that on the very day his service technician came out, my garage door, that has worked for 8.5 years, decides to die on me. Adam looked me straight in the face and told me that these things happen and there is nothing his service technician could have done to screw up my garage door. I basically tell him thanks for nothing and he leaves. Cut to two days later (after researching new garage door openers, installation, and alignment). I go out to my garage and decide to try opening it once more. I press the button and the garage door goes up. It is now much noisier than before I called the service technician, but it worked. I looked up how to align my garage door online. It literally took my wife and I five minutes to get the garage door aligned and to close evenly without a gap at the bottom. So, as a warning to everyone. Save yourself some money. Buy the rollers on Amazon for $10, buy a tube of grease for $3, and read up on how to align a garage door yourself. I am just glad I didn't listen to Adam when he told me I needed a new garage door opener.
