Came here on a Tuesday with over 15 people and was denied lunch. We were stopped by the front door stating that they can't serve us if we didn't have any reservations. Now when did this start? Save your money. This place is overrated and over priced considering the quality of the food. The meat is low grade, mediocre produce, stale rice and bottled water. The kimchi comes in styrofoam container. The ventilation is poor, and it becomes very smoky inside from all the grills, it's hard to enjoy your food. The service is meh. I went about an hour and half before they closed! They took us in, but was constantly reminded they were closing soon. I did ask for small portions since an additional $5 fee is added when meat is left behind. The meat was ok, it was sorta sweet and slightly frozen which made it a little more difficult to cook. Price is a little high for what you get, good atmosphere and little to no wait time. Meat selection is okay, nothing to get excited over. Make sure to eat all of your meat, or else you'll be charged an extra $5 for meat left over. read more

This was my first time trying Korean BBQ and it was definitely a great experience. We went on a week night and was sat right away. The meat options were good and everything tasted great. This place has downgraded tremendously. I'd be too generous to give it a 3-4 rating. Compared to many KBBQ existing in California, this place is very low quality. And even if anyone wants to say, "well it's not fair because it's the only one in Fresno", well then yes, you have a point. It's the ONLY one in Fresno, which is why it's getting any business. Who doesn't crave meat? But even just being in Fresno alone, the quality downgrades more and more each time. The briskets are not presentable. Most places have a beautifully, thin sliced, frozen piece of marble brisket. This place looks like they pre-sliced the meat, froze it, and forced the cut by hand because it's in such large chunks. They bring it out on a smaller plate, and they turn down the heat as soon as you cook it. Why would you turn down heat as soon as meat is thrown on the grill? Amateur move! Unless it's a way to slow down the cooking so you'd just get full faster. Money saving advantage...but very lame. Also, it's expensive for the quality. read more

Went for my son's bday lunch... 8 people $350 bux.. water bottles (warm).. meat was good.. but overall service was lackluster.. menu was dirty, while they did swap out grills i noticed the last new grill they put in had meat particles in the slots.. wish i had paid better attention when we sat down. they also wouldn't seat us till the whole party showed up.. that was highly annoying.. This place gets a star for simply providing a grill and the meats. Very disappointing Korean BBQ experience. No rice or radish paper ONLY lettuce. My pregnant wife and I couldn't eat here (at dinner) after witnessing the poor cleanliness standards given we're handling raw meat. THE RUNDOWN - built up dust and dirt on the entry chandelier and air duct that visibly floated down on to us while waiting. - grease pans for bbq spots aren't cleaned out between seatings or lunch/dinner - we were sat with a dirty grill that had food from the lunch serving still on it. We asked for it to be switched out, and watched the following: Two female staff come out with a rag and grab our grill and go to another table. They are very clearly just wiping it down and not applying any sort of sanitization solution or degreasing soap. They then bring it back to the table and put it on. We get to watch as the grill heats back up and more meat grease from the prior seating bubbles up between the grooves in the grill... which is an issue as it had been SITTING THERE FOR HOURS AND MAY HAVE SHRIMP/OTHER FOOD MATERIAL WE COULD HAVE ALLERGENS TO. We inform them it's still dirty and watch as one staff member tries to take a rag to it right in front of us, clearly missing that the GRILL IS STILL NOT PROPERLY SANITIZED. We ought to report this establishment for health code violations. Other kbbq restaurants across California do a much better job than this. Avoid this place if you dont want to get sick. read more

Wack!!! This place went down hill! Went there last week to enjoy a Korean bbq dinner( to experience what Korean bbq are like) I've been to the bay area kbbq and these were maw and paw restaurants and they are a 10/10! ..This shila Korean bbq ONLY have 4 sides dish kimchi, dikon kimchi, pickle cucumber, and the sesame glass noodles, and I ask for fermented soybeans pase and they don't even have it. I pay a premium price for dinner and what I experienced at shila that night was a broked restaurant about to go out of business.( seems like they're doing cut back - usually restaurants are like this because they're losing money, sad but true.) That night I feel like I got rob. Hopefully Shila will fix this and make it more enjoyable for all their consumers and give the customers the best Korean bbq experience ever. read more

Went there this past week in July 2021 after they reopened they were out of almost everything and still full price, they were cleaning every table with fabuloso (like a pinesal but extremely strong chemical smell that does not put well with food) it was all around a bit so enjoyable evening and then on our way out we went to pay at the front and got yelled at to pay at our table (which they use to let us pay at front ,hence the register up there) . Good location, lots of parking. When you first walk in, the testy appears to be small but it is large. If your a first timer, as we were, don't expect an explanation of how it works. We basically watched the other tables around us...the meats we chose all tasted the same. We guessed at what the side dishes were that were brought to our table. Our salads were in to-go containers, the dressing as well which was pretty tasty. At no point we're we ever told that we could not take our leftovers home! Been here twice with my good friend who lives in Fresno. Been here for lunch as well as dinner. This is my friend's go-to Korean bbq place. Wide selection of bbq options (like octopus) but I stuck to what I knew (pork belly, beef short rib, etc). Lunch price for bbq was reasonable. We also ordered soup and onion pancakes. Service was prompt and attentive. Bathrooms are clean. I'll be back again next time I'm in Fresno. read more

I honestly wasn't expected much. I was in Fresno for work and don't know much about the city or it's eats. I hear different things from different people regarding what to expect. I wanted KBBQ. My coworker wanted KBBQ. We found KBBQ (and soju - most important on the list) and set out for it. We come from a land (SF/Bay Area) with a plethora of KBBQ selections. Our sights were not set high. We were both greatly surprised. The quality of the meat we ordered was good (the ribeye was DELICIOUS! perfectly marbled, etc). The host and waitress were both very nice and gracious. It was not busy and there was no wait but there were people enjoying dinner. The onion pancake already on the table was a new one for me and it was delicious! A great added touch, in my opinion. The tofu soup was mediocre and not spicy at all but you win some and you lose some. I would definitely come back to Shila while in the Fresno area. It's not quite a fair comparison to the places in my stomping ground but I thoroughly enjoyed it! For the price, the options, and the nice staff, it is definitely worth a visit. read more

Then the credit waitress told us to wait 5-10min while they set up the table. I have been to Loren bbq many times and never need to wait for table to get ready, especially when it is not busy. I don't understand what has happened with Shila, charging for water, which filtered tap would save time, money, and plastic. Every side dish comes with styrofoam and a plastic lid for every side that is ordered, absolutely baffling, it's like they hate having to wash the reusable dishes. Food was good, however customer service was lacking. The workers kept hovering and staring over at me & three of my girlfriends the entire time. It is uncomfortable to eat while having their workers staring at you. There were times when the flame was too high, so we put the flame down to medium and low, and the worker came over and put the flame back to high twice when our food was already burning. I've been to the other Shila BBQ on Shaw. I definitely recommend going there instead. Customer service is incredible. The workers are highly informative and generous. read more

Came here on a Saturday evening. Not terribly busy but it did appear short staffed considering the amount of folks. I will say that despite that, the service was really good. There was one main gal and a young man that would come by often to change out our grill, update our order, and provide refills. Their meat selection is really good (and I'm comparing it to places I've eaten at in SF bay). The tofu soup isn't actually tofu stew so just don't show up with that expectation. The onion pancake and the steamed egg were a hit with my little one and the kalbi was pretty on par for flavor. It's obvious that this place is not a true Korean BBQ restaurant but there really aren't a whole lot of options for "real Korean food" in this area. I think it's important to support businesses like this in hopes that they can expand or maybe remodel, add some new menu items, and hire the staff they need to provide truly excellent service. Saw a new KBBQ opening in river park during the fall and made me crave KBBQ today. This place was down the street from where I was shopping and wanted to try it for the first time. I came in with a super hungry appetite. I should have known something was a little off when I seen there were no cars parked and the place looked closed. I walked in and the hostess did not greet us at all. She just put up the number 2 with her fingers, held up her hand to sign us to wait then pointed at a table to sit. The ambiance was dull and boring. Nothing exciting or welcoming about this place at all. Owners was should have invested into making this place look alive than feeling like a cash grab. I'm from the Bay Area so I've been to plenty of KBBQs. I looked around to find a sauce bar... there wasn't one. They gave us 2 sauces (sesame oil with salt and a mysterious brown sauce. I thought it was soy sauce at first, it's not) Anyway, our waiter came and asked us for something to drink. We both asked for water. Save your breath it's not free. It's a Kirkland bottled water that they charge $2 for each bottle. Wish I was kidding. For coming at 7pm we were the only one there. Not another customer in sight. Their meat menu was small but I got the ones I was familiar with from past KBBQs. Low quality of everything. Let me tell you... the sides are premade that come in a styrofoam bowl. The meats looked older. Felt like I had covid because nothing had flavor. We asked for a second round because we at least wanted our moneys worth but the second the waiter put a "new" grill on.... Oh my goodness. There was still burnt residue from the previous person. AND THATS NOT ALL! The residue started bubbling in foam from what I'm assuming was the chemicals they tried cleaning it with. That was it for us. We didn't even want to pay for the meal but the hostess insisted we pay for at least 1. She didn't ask what was the reason or apologized for the inconvenience she was quick to say "pay for 1 person" as if she's been through this before. I'd give this place a 0 star if I could. Came in for lunch because my niece wanted to give this place a try. Bulgogi, baby octopus and squid were good choices. The beef brisket was chewy no matter how I cooked it. The sides I like the sweet potatoes and kimchee but I was not a fan of the pancake, it was just too oily. The atomospher was not great there were flies inside that land on my sweet potatoes but the waitress noticed right away and switched it out quickly. Although the hostess tried catching the fly in her hand was not appealing at all. The ice tea had absolutely no flavor it was mostly water. For four people, we were allowed to order three kinds of meat each time we wanted more. It came with about six banchan (side dishes) like kimchi, spicy cucumber, spicy daikon radish, potato salad, glass noodles, and soy sprouts. The meat choices were bulgogi (marinated thin beef strips), chicken thin strips, spicy chicken thin strips, baby octopus, squid, beef ribs (kebab size thick meat bites), tenderloin, shrimp with shell, eyes and legs still attached, pork belly, spicy pork belly and others. It was all very good, but I thought the bulgogi was the best. The only thing I was disappointed in was that the staff didn't really know Korean. As I'm learning the language, I asked a couple of people how to pronounce certain food words and they didn't know what I was talking about. Just a terrible choice since the meat and fat ratio was very off and we were left with two fatty, unseasoned char sticks... Banchan: The japchae was overly sweet and kind of stale...? Glass noodles should not be that al dente. The pajeon was over cooked and cold. Did not end up touching much of the banchan besides the kimchi. Went in during a Monday lunch shift around 1pm and got the 1st lunch option. Very good bang for your buck. The workers tend to leave the fire on high so we had to adjust the flames at times. When we did get our grills changed, my girlfriend noticed that while the new grill was clean for the most part, the slots in the grill had some charred bits still on it which made our new grills smoke up a little in the beginning.
