Just a heads up: This place is Chinese. Unfortunately, I didn't know that before I stepped in. Prices are pretty cheap. I got the chirashi and the bf got the tempura bento. The rice in his bento was covered in some kind of creamy and tart sauce. Very unusual -- I had never seen anything like it. The breading on the tempura was a little thick. My chirashi had fresh fish (except for the hamachi, which was so-so) and it also came with some kind of baby octopus. Isn't that Chinese.. or Korean? I don't think it's Japanese. Something else that was weird was the waitress asking us how much change we wanted back. I found that kind of rude. No "thank you" when we left either.

After reading the reviews, we were hesitant on coming to this place but honestly, there was nothing I could fault during our service. The setting was clean, the service was attentive and fast and the sushi was fresh. The Love Boat with the chef's choice of rolls was risky for me since I didn't like not knowing what we'd get but we went for it anyways and it was awesome. Chef made some unique things and included Sockeye salmon. The only minus for me was that those booths were not very comfy, especially with those thin cushions and no back support. But I guess it was for the sake of the design. Last, I'm pretty sure everyone who worked there was Japanese. Not sure where the whole "this place is Chinese" really matters. Especially coming from Seattle where 90% of Teriyaki places are ran by Koreans with Hispanic cooks. Even the majority of the conveyor belt places have Hispanic cooks. Seems silly doesn't it. Shouldn't matter. Tip: go there late and away from the crowds.

Terrible and overpriced. My hamachi was still frozen and I had to wait for it to thaw. It was also poor quality and vary fishy. Not at all the buttery yellowtail I'm used to. We ordered the chicken Katsu from the kids menu for my son - the chicken was waaaaay over cooked and I could barely cut it with a knife. I ended up shredding it and putting it into miso soup so he could eat it. The spider roll we ordered was thoroughly underwhelming- tiny little crab (or was it 1/4 a crab??). I have come to the conclusion that we must have angered the whale watching tour guide who recommended this place to us.

Sat at the sushi bar, (which was rotting and warped from leaky fridges me thinks) Wait staff seemed turned off that I did not order alcohol, at no time durring my meal was I offered water. $33 for AYCE dinner, the sushi chef did an OK job preparing rolls. Chicken karaage, essentially "pigeon", bone in, no seasoning Ika/squid karaage, a bowl of thin greasy rubber bands with no flavor. Prawn tempura (how do you mess this up?) The prawns were very small, batter coating was not good, chewy rather than crisp. The waitress clearly knew I hadn't ordered anywhere near $33 worth of this awful food. When I requested the check it would have been more responsible to charge me alacart rather than simply take my money, tip? Don't eat here.

Oyster Motoyaki Robata - must-try. Not an oyster person but these are amazing. Ordered individually so please give them a try!

The sushi here just taste like "sushi", nothing special. If you just want to eat something, it could be a choice.

The only thing they said was the food isn't ready and would be longer - they were not apologetic in any way (I had preordered the food more than 3 hours in advance), I had also asked for cutlery for 3 and was provided with 2. Other guests came into the restaurant too and were not greeted nor acknowledged. They were chatting amongst each other about how it's odd multiple servers came by and yet no one was able to assist them but the hostess who was nowhere to be found... I'll be back...but only because the food is excellent.

Aside from the standard otoro and chutoro from blue fin tuna, they also had toro cuts from hamachi and albacore. I had to try all the toro cuts and actually I landed on the chutoro being my preferred belly sashimi. The bite of the night however went to the uni sashimi which can always be hit or miss. It was probably some of the best and fresh tasting uni I have had! The hamachi sashimi was also a stand out and actually tasted better than the hamachi toro. Service was actually pretty great and their suggestions (which included the uni) were spot on. Definitely need to branch out to the wagyu next time!

They have a few tables and only one was occupied when I arrived and only a couple people got takeout while I was there. It's not a place you come to for the ambiance. However, the sushi rolls were excellent. My wife had numerous questions which were answered promptly and knowledgably. Our salads (Seaweed and Green) were both excellent. The green salad had a few different types of lettuce, baby spinach, cucumber, avacado, and a very tasty dressing. I was impressed because it wasn't the typical "sushi place" salad I'm used to. The spicy tuna roll was certainly spicy and fresh. The Rock & Roll was amazing. The seared, chopped scallops on top were a great addition to the cucumber, avocado, crab meat, and sauce. The Washington Roll was a little similar with cucumber, avocado, and crabmeat inside, but the fresh salmon on top was delicious. The Awesome Roll again was similar with the cucumber, avocado, and crabmeat inside, but cooked salmon on top, with crispy yam strands on top of that. Excellent presentation and taste. I was a little concerned about trying the place because it had five stars, but not many reviews, and none recent. I'm happy I tried it and recommend it to the locals and visitors as well. (I was visiting Victoria from the US.)
