My sister-in-law and I went to Shift Rest. In Bright Indiana yesterday. It's a restaurant that's been open for about five years. We started with an appetizer which was a pretzel with beer cheese.I I had a cheeseburger and fries for my meal and my sister-in-law had wings. My cheeseburger was delicious. I got a chance to taste my sister-in-law's wings which were not deep fried but grilled They were very good . It was a very enjoyable lunch, and the ambiance was great. read more

I gave this place 2 chances and it failed miserably both times. Both times the food was inedible and I couldn't believe that the cook wasn't ashamed to send it out. Burnt to point where you couldn't cut it with a knife. The prices are way out of line for what is offered. They'll never get a third opportunity from me. read more

I have been here numerous times and the majority of the food is very good. However, every time I go in, I hope they've improved the beer cheese that accompanies their delicious pretzel. Last night I had the same, bland beer cheese. Why they don't add a little cayenne and try not to 'break' the sauce, is beyond me. I can't be the only one that notices the grainy texture of this 'beer cheese'. Let's hope they work on that and keeping the fries as fresh as possible. read more

After thinking about my experiance here I think I have to rate them a 3. 1. Most importantly, THE FOOD. The food portion of my experience was wonderful. The pretzel appetizer, my husbands steak, my salad and side of veggies. Everything was delicious and so very good. In this aspect they hit the nail on the head. 2. Speed- Service was slow. Like real slow. It was somewhat busy but definitely not packed or anything and it took upwards of an hour to get our food to us. 3. Price- Portion sizes were large but still pricey for what you are getting. It has more of a bar and grill atmosphere with the prices of a Steakhouse. I think if they adjust their pricing they could appear to a wider customer base. Overall, I would eat here again but not that frequently. read more

I've been here 5 times now. 1) Went with just my girlfriends for dinner, drinks, and trivia night. Had a great time! Service was great! Food was good. Prices a tad high. Bloody Mary was gross. $3 Wells might not actually have any alcohol in them. 2) Went with my husband for lunch. Street tacos were delicious. His BLT was just a blt, not really worth the price. Service was good. 3) and 4). Have been twice with the husband and kids. I always end up ordering the street taco as there isn't a whole lot on the menu that interests me or that isn't too expensive for me. The tacos are always good though. Service is always friendly. Kids meals are served on a frisbee, my some loves that. Kids usually order burgers and fries and they are great also. 5) Took a party of 11 for dinner to celebrate a graduation. Service was a little slow this night, but it was busy and we were a little larger than usual party so I tried to be understanding. Food was all great. Hanger steaks, tacos, fish sandwich, Cesar wrap, burger, giant pretzel, and salmon were all ordered and everyone was happy. It was also nice to find out at this visit that they were making some changes to meet customer requests such as including a side with some of the meals, having more kitchen staff, lowering a couple of the prices, etc. We will be regulars at Shift. I love that the chef has featured dishes on occasion and look forward to seeing what he comes up with! read more

** I wanted to update my original review. It seems that they have improved on a couple of things that I was displeased with during my first visit. We went for my husbands birthday a few weeks ago and it was a pretty good experience. Our server was friendly and the food was good. The fish sandwich was excellent. Our only problem was that it was very very loud and the food took a while. It didn't make for a good time with my toddler. He was very overstimulated and hungry so he was melting down by the end of the meal. Other than the noise and length of time it took for our food, i was impressed. I'd like to return with no kids. ** I really wanted to love it because it's so close to home. I had defended the prices to people, before they opened because I know quality food costs more. However, the portions were too small and the food was not great so it was hard to justify $14 for my meal. I got the chicken street tacos. The chicken tasted like unseasoned grilled chicken and the slaw that was on them had no flavor so it was basically chicken with cabbage. The tortillas (hopefully made in house) were tasty, though. The Bloody Mary was small, so surely I should have been able to taste a hint of vodka in it but unfortunately I did not. I didn't like their mix at all and I don't think there was the correct amount of vodka in it. The service also left something to be desired. Our server seemed impatient and cold, almost like we were bothering her. Also, when we arrived we asked about brunch, as that was our main reason for going there. She told us rather shortly that brunch was over. Had we known that, we may have gone elsewhere. We didn't find anything on the website that said what time brunch was but we figured with a huge Sunday brunch menu, that it would be going on at 12:30 still. Half the pretzel was hollow. Veggie melt came on uncut bread just like you made a sandwich at home. Can we try to make it look more appealing. No tomatoes, no onions, no mushroom. We enjoyed another delicious meal here on New Year's Eve. We had reservations for 10 @7pm and our table was awaiting us when we arrived. It was a busy night, so we gave the slightly slower service a pass. We ordered a variety of dishes for dinner. I tried the trout which was one of the specials and it was AMAZING!! Others raved about the burger, the chicken sandwich, and the reuben. A few people ordered the blackened salmon and they weren't too impressed, stated it was overcooked and quite dry. Again since it was New Years Eve and the restaurant is still working out the kinks, we didn't feel the need to complain. Wonderful surprise for this area. Glad we finally had a chance to try it. Generous portions packed with flavor. I had the Burger and my wife had the street tacos (chicken, fish, and veggie). New place and I do not think they have found their place. Their food prices are high with a sport bar atmosphere. This is a noisy place with high priced food. Buffalo Wild Wings has a less noisy atmosphere with ok food. It is walking into a huge room with very poor sitting choices. Only a few 6 party booths and the rest tables. Hard to even have a conversation. The food is expensive and nothing special. My wife ordered grilled vegetable street Tacos. The waitress didn't even know they offered a VEG version of the dish. Then when the dish was delivered the vegetable were STEAMED not grilled. I had short rib meat swimming in a sauce with swimming fries. The dish might have been good if the fries were served on the side. Instead they swam in the sauce. The house Wine, HOPE, was good but not worth 28 dollars per bottle. The wine list is very over priced. 11 or 8 dollars a glass. In Bright IN this price is by far out of the park. If I went to Marco's Pizza, I could get an equal house wine at 3 dollars a glass. The service was average and the server, with her high tech wrist entry device, did not even know the menu. My prediction without a lot of changes they will not survive in Bright IN. Prices need to go down and seating needs to be greatly improved. They need open sports bar seating and some more private areas of seating. Their menu is NOT that special to demand higher prices. read more

This is a two visit review and they're at odds. I'll call it, " A Tale of Two Wings". Our first visit was on whim, we were out for the day and had been wanting to go on a recommendation, the time was right, so we gave it a go. Arrived ahead of the dinner crowd, sat at a high top in the bar and was served by Adam (outstanding). Place is clean and new. Weren't quite ready for dinner so we ordered some wings/beers, again on the recommendation. Had them dry rubbed and chili Thai with blue cheese and celery. Some of the best wings I've had and the blue cheese is homemade. Couldn't wait to bring friends back. Round two, 1/2 price appetizer night per recommended by Adam. Arrive ahead of dinner crowd again. Order every appetizer except the nachos, mainly couldn't wait for the wings. Well, the place fills up with patrons , order drags, couple came in way after us and gets food. We stay patient, food shows and wings were a total let down, I had raved about them and they were rubbery, wing eaters hate rubbery right? :( Fried pickles good, flatbread was just ok, pretzel was outstanding. Service was very not good. MIA most of the time, so one time I went to bar to get more drinks because she's MIA again . She shows up there and says she'll get it, well I'll be d&$!ed if it wasn't another 10 minutes before our drinks showed. The four star is based on our first visit, we will go back, I want those wings from the first visit! This place is just fantastic. Great design, great food, Great atmosphere, regular entertainment and live music... people need to venture over to Bright Indiana to check it out because it's totally worth it. It's a shame that some people have left less than great reviews because of the amount of time it takes to receive your food. Obviously they are not used to dining in restaurants that serve fresh, never frozen food. Food prep takes time and everything here is delicious and served within a totally reasonable timeframe. If you need your cheeseburger in five minutes than you should probably hit a fast food joint... but if you want a fresh ground, hand pattied burger with fresh toppings like they were just picked from the garden then it's going to take a few minutes longer. The quality is worth the wait. The burger here is very good, my wife regularly gets the street tacos which she loves, recently I tried the grilled chicken wings (and I don't usually like grilled wings) and they were absolutely delicious. I recommend their house dry rub. They also have a Sunday morning brunch which we attend regularly and special Friday night buffets twice a month (prime rib one night and seafood on the other). This restaurant was a MUCH needed addition to Bright Indiana! The building is beautiful, the staff is pleasant, AND the food is AMAZING. I had heard grumbling about price but honestly it is fair priced for the quality of food you get. Also, i can now get an Eastside Cincinnati restaurant feel right in my back yard. We gave this place a try for the first time a couple days ago. Staff was prompt and friendly. No complaints there. Had fried pickles to start. Those were delicious! I could clearly see they were not from frozen and took that as a good sign. Unfortunately, this was not the case for the rest of the meal. The burger was bland and skinny. The meat patty in particular had no flavor and was quite underwhelming. Considering the price, it should have been more substantial in flavor and size. Burgers are a staple, if you can't get that right idk what to tell ya. The fries were decent. The salmon "special" at $22 was far from special. I enjoy salmon quite a bit. I typically get salmon or some sort of fish when I go to fine dining spots, and boy was this some depressing fish. The plate arrives and I am looking at a very sad, flat, small piece of what I am told was salmon. I tried to remain optimistic despite all appearances that this was going to be a sad day for fish eaters everywhere. I take one bite and it is clearly from frozen- the salmon is super dry, dense, and absolutely flavorless even after squeezing lemon all over it to save it. It was so dry I felt like a cat licking sandpaper. Ok maybe not that extreme, but I needed water to get each bite down. Yep. The two sides with the salmon were average. The broccoli arrived in a dish swimming in about a centimeter of broccoli runoff water. I mean you guys couldn't even bother to strain the broccoli? Come on folks. The mac and cheese was average at best. But that salmon, my goodness. I have never had a restaurant serve salmon like that, no joke I have had better quality food at Applebee's. This restaurant seems like it very badly wants to be an upscale casual restaurant, but they fail on the main courses quite exquisitely. For the price tag, it's simply not worth it. We started off with the pretzel and beer cheese which was delicious and for our entrees we both did the mushroom and Swiss burgers with fries which was their special of the night for $8.99. Food was very good, burgers were very juicy, fries were delicious and the pretzel and beer cheese was amazing. My only complaints are that the service was somewhat lacking, we had to wait a while for refills and the place was not busy whatsoever. My other complaint would be that it is a bit pricey, we were happy with the price of the special, but the menu was quite expensive. Food was just ok . My husband got a steak which had decent flavor , but , not worth the money, and It was a very small piece of meat. Also , he had to send it back to cook longer, originally came out too rare. I ordered fish and my original order came out incorrect. After bringing me the correct piece of fish , I had to wait on my sweet potato to arrive . My dinner came out in pieces and my husband was finished by the time mine arrived . They did give us complimentary desserts for their mishaps which was nice. Beautiful building but loud . I think they need to stick with sports bar food and they'll be fine. read more

The manager was fixing the tv and heard us ask the girl seating other people who our server was. She said she'd get someone. We kept sitting there with no one waiting on us. We finally got up and found the manager to tell him we were leaving and he said " No one ever waited on you??" Had reservations for 7:15pm and even expected a short wait as it was a Saturday night. 45 minutes later we finally sat down. Started with the pretzel and fried pickles which were both good. They took a little while to come out and came out about 10 minutes apart. Had two side salads that probably took another 30 minutes to come out and also came out at different times. After about an hour our food finally started to come out. Like I said before, it was a busy Saturday night so somewhat understandable and we also had a party of nine. Food was brought out two dishes at a time over about 10 minutes. Pork chops, chicken, burgers, fish were all over cooked and unseasoned. Salsa looked like it was from a Tostitos salsa jar. I've visited Shift a few times since they've opened and it seems they are really getting into their groove and finding their identity. We enjoyed a wonderful Saturday night at Shift listening to the live band and enjoying a nice meal. The pretzel is a staple, the wings (extra crispy how I like them) are delicious and fall off the bone, the burger is one of my husband's favorites, and the Saratoga chips are seasoned well. I live in the area and heard mixed reviews about Shift. Heard people complain about price or it was too "city" for their liking. My wife and I went and thought the burgers were very good.
