I've dealt with stress and anxiety for as long as I can remember as well as TMJ, neck pain, carpal tunnel, diabetes, lower back pain, and neuropathy. I felt comfortable enough with her to ramble on about the mix of stress/anxiety/digestive problems that I was having. She listened, looked at my tongue, and said that acupuncture, along with proper diet, sleep, exercise, should be very effective. I've been on Gabapentin for a few years because of the neuropathy and after the first session 95% of the numbness and tingling in my feet was gone. After five sessions I'm feeling great. The back pain is much better (my weight still puts some stress on it), the "neuropathy" which was actually caused by my lower back (not diabetes) is almost nonexistent, and I've started losing weight by following her recommendations. Some people have made fun of me when I've told them what I'm doing, but many others have asked for recommendations because they've seen the change in my demeanor and health. Dr. Yan has been instrumental in helping me re-adjust and heal both what has ended up being chronic imbalances as well as acute issues that I had when I first stepped into her office. It is truly rare to find an acupuncturist who will be as present as Dr. Yan is when it comes to listening to her patients before each treatment to make sure she treats them to the best of her ability. It is really clear to me that she takes the time to treat each patient as a true individual, rather than mostly taking into consideration acupuncture points she prefers based on comfort or just preference - acupuncture is definitely an art form in a way, but I really appreciate the way she incorporates this awareness and care as a large part of her treatment plan. At your first appointment, you will fill out a form - which is standard, but she actually referenced my chart from our first appointment a few times - it wasn't just a one-off part of protocol. Shifeng Yan is amazing. I went to her to help with digestive issues I had been having for over two months. I don't know if it was really bad food poisoning or what but I was nauseous and unable to keep any food down. I was also losing weight and felt tremors in my hands and body. I had never been sick for this long in my life and I was a little scared. I went looking for an acupunturist on Yelp and I found Shifeng Yan. I read her reviews and she had several very positive ones, specifically from patients with digestive issues. I booked my appointment and I am so glad I did. She performed acupuncture on me, then gave me herbs to take after meals. She also informed me how to eat to improve my digestion. I immediately felt results after the first session and I felt completely healed by my second appointment. In fact, I felt better than healed. I felt strong. I went to see Dr. Shifeng Yan looking for help for my severe back pain (this was after seeing an Orthopedic Doctor and taking his medications for two weeks). My back pain is chronic and recurrent since I have three herniated disks; in the past, I had also tried physical therapy unsuccessfully. At the time of my visit, I was experiencing some recent digestive issues (possibly caused by the backpain medication). From the beginning, I noticed the professionalism and care with which Dr. Yan patiently listens to you when you tell her about your health issues. She is very honest when explaining the treatment and possible results of that treatment (in my case "the long-term nerve damage is possibly irreversible"). Right after my first visit and a week of taking her natural Chinese medications, my back pain improved noticeably, my digestive issues were gone, and I felt much better in general. Having continuous pain from a chronic genetic condition was why I first went to Dr. Yan, the great results I have experienced and the professionalism that she delivers is why I continue to see her and why I must share with you a few of my comments on this site. I do not write a lot of reviews but this is a must. I have completed 8 sessions with Dr. ShiFeng Yan which is beyond knowledgeable in her practice. She makes sure every patient receives personal care and attention. During my first appointment I received a form asking me a lot of questions about my overall health and lifestyle habits. Then Dr. ShiFeng Yan went over the form with me and we discussed the best forms of treatment. She has tailored the treatment to my needs which is amazing. So far I am getting treated with acupuncture and cupping. I have been to other acupuncture practices and no one has done the cupping which I was missing out on because the cupping is super relaxing and creates a relieving sensation. I first visited Dr. Yan's office about two months ago. She gave a thorough examination including tongue evaluation and a detailed interview. She was friendly and knowledgeable. I have been to other acupuncturists who simply stick a few needles in you and come back in half an hour to remove them and send you on your way. Dr. Yan isn't like that. She is a hard worker with lots of tricks up her sleeve to help you with whatever issue you have. Shifeng Yan is an incredible doctor, who puts people at ease and listens to their concerns. I have been seeing her for years, and cannot recommend her enough. It is very easy to make an appointment with her, and the wait time is usually very short, if there is a wait time at all. I have never been nervous about needles, but I can say she has a very light touch and I have never had any issues with pain. She can determine if an area might bruise or swell after a needle is taken out (common reactions) and will put an herbal salve or something to help. I have been a patient of Dr. Yan since 2013, when a herniated disc in my neck flared up. At that point, I had been in pain for two months.
