Went here and was awful. First of all the coddling I received was god awful. Rule of three is insane and we can't fill our own water bottles. Also I got bullied and isolated A LOT and the counselors didn't do anything except shush me. The vegetarian food is BELOW subpar and when I sent a letter home telling my mother about it I was pulled aside and told off. The sleeping rules are cumbersome. Was totally ignored most of the time and generally felt pretty down about everything. Counselors were rather mean. All in all a very very bad place for kids unless they are bullies or conformists. My teens had a great time at camp, and would go back, but the parents experience was very lacking. For my young teenagers: they really loved the counselors, and the activities. Blacksmithing and courtly dancing/manners were the highlights. They also enjoyed the sleeping arrangements (AC in Castle) and the food (except 1 night they said the stir-fry was terribly undercooked). They both came home with colds (not Covid). For the parents: 3 big failures (at least!) 1. poor and incorrect communication about registering for a group. 1 group was clearly girls only. and in general, there were a lot of mistakes in the times and schedules. 2. BIGGEST FAIL: it took 2 hours to drop off my 2 fully-capable teenagers at camp... why? because there were not 1, not 2, but 3 incredibly LONG LINES we had to wait in just to drop them off. This made the whole experience of day1 terrible... oh, and we were told it would take just a few minutes to drop off... so of course we got sunburned waiting in line AND missed a meeting. NOT GOOD. 3. Last (but not final), we dropped off our "mail" for the kids to get as packages on Wed. of camp, and they got delivered on SAT of camp (i.e. the last day)... now how does that help a kid with homesickness not to get our letter/packages we sent for them? Sherwood is by far my favorite Ren Fair in Texas. It's not the biggest but it has the best feel- the workers are kind and friendly, everyone is happy and having a great time. Great for families or if you just want to go have a good time. They even have good food and drinks there. The hookah hut is our favorite place to hang out. Nemo is one of the attendants there and we enjoy seeing him every time. Such fun! read more
