If you like finding a unique piece for a wall in your home, a conversation piece for your kitchen or a repurposed chair painted with words and drawings from a nursery rhyme you need to explore Robin's Nest. My husband knows that if we are traveling south on highway 50 it will mean a stop (sometimes long, sometimes short) at the blue metal shed in Springfield. Currently decked out for the holidays, I wasn't quite ready to shop for Christmas but left with dish towels, a decorative tin tile, and some gray chalk paint for a project. I always find something unique and love checking out every nook and cranny that tastefully displays the latest market finds and the unique creations of local makers. Prior to COVID the shop offered classes in hand lettering and painting but I haven't seen any of those lately. I love exploring the back room where you can find thrifty pieces to DIY........from old maps, wooden paned windows, oars, farmhouse chairs, wire gathering baskets, metal letters, and much more. Ample parking is available on Main Street and the store is observing COVID-19 restrictions with mask wearing, social distancing and limiting capacity. The owner rang up my selections and gave a few tips for using the paint I purchased. She even showed me a finished piece using the paint color I had selected. The store was packed with displays so navigating the store areas might be a challenge for those with a walker or small children. Stopping at Robin's Nest is a regular occurrence for this Yelper. I am not sure why I haven't reviewed it before! I got distracted and forgot to take photos. I will add those on my next visit.

This was also reported by multiple neighbors who had seen the worker from their yard - there are no privacy fences that separate the houses. There were also personal clothing items left in my brushes and landscaping at the end of the day. On October 10th we accepted a bid from Custom Colors to paint the exterior of our house. I'm a first time homeowner and was really excited to spruce up the exterior of our house a bit. We had the WORST experience with Custom Colors Painting and remodeling, and I wish I had followed my gut instinct when I met the owner. He sent out a crew immediately to start working. The first day, when they were power washing, they damaged our back porch and the owner said it was due to the kind of wood it was and forced us to pay to repair it. There were also multiple indents, gouges, and damage to the siding around the house due to the powerwashing (confirmed by a different painter) - this had to be fixed by another set of workers. While powerwashing, there was mud and water damage to the ceiling in the basement. This was from them not covering and taking precautions with the basement windows. While powerwashing, they pushed the basement windows open and the mud was sprayed onto the ceiling. Each night we were noticing there were trash, cups, straws, wrappers, tissues and other personal hygiene items, nails, etc. left in the driveway, yard and street which we were picking up as we didn't want to upset our neighbors. There is video showing that the workers for Custom Colors and Remodeling would throw out all of the trash from their vehicle into the street at the end of the end. We also noticed the workers got paint on our trees, grass and concrete. There are large paint marks on the few trees we have in our yard. This is very noticeable from the neighbors view (I was even asked if there was some kind of witchcraft going on due to all the pain markings on the trees). All of our gutters were smashed and damaged. It looked as if they had been continuously walked on or a ladder was put on them. Multiple downspouts were so damaged that the water and debris was unable to filter out properly. During the time the painters were working on the house, I had multiple packages delivered to the front door. Without permission, the painters would take the packages (by the door) and use them to set painting supplies on, use as a brace to paint, and would leave them in the yard at the end of the night. When the painters were packing up on their final day, they actually took one of the packages with them. When the workers left they also left multiple paint smears on the basement and back kitchen windows. They were long noticeable brush strokes. There was also lots of paint on the driveway. Also, there was lots of paint tape and paper left on the house and trash left scattered throughout the yard - including empty paint cans, plastic, and packaging. When we did the final walk through with the owner (he wasn't around all week and the job took 7 days), he immediately said the job had to be redone as the house wasn't sanded or prepped at all prior to them painting and the painting looked horrendous! After 2 weeks he finally sent out a sander and then a week later someone to paint. The man who finished the job did a lovely job, but again, doesn't work for Custom Colors, was only contracted.
