Apparently, according to the Benjamin Moore dealer at Miller Paint and Decorating, no house has ever been painted yellow on the outside, because it will fade or require multiple coats so they can't even give me samples of any yellow color for an exterior job. Which is really weird, since the Benjamin Moore website seems to say the exact opposite, even has a color picker for my exterior color. And also because I got yellow colors from three other paint stores/suppliers, meant for exterior paint. But no, I'm probably wrong about this because the dude at the counter said he was darn sorry I just can't paint my house yellow with Benjamin Moore colors. Going to go to another Benjamin Moore dealer shortly to find out whether it's a franchised craziness or just individual lunkheadedness associated with this store, but I shan't bother coming back here, at least not until they invent the color yellow again.

When we first walked in, my thoughts were, 'they're not going to have plumbing parts...' I was totally wrong. This hardware store has it all - everything you expect in a local hardware store and then some. The entry to the store is filled with unique items for your home, trinkets, and gifts. It's a visual delight. Then you get into the heart of the store and there you'll find housewares and small appliances, landscape supplies, light bulbs...the list goes on. They even offer refills of cleaning supplies for environmentally conscious shoppers. Don't forget about upstairs which houses the plumbing supplies amongst other things. What's even better is the staff is friendly and helpful. If you haven't been yet, check it out!

This store did, and when I talked to an employee here I was told it was an "optional" item to carry. I ordered it online, and when I arrived they couldn't find my order. How do you lose 140 pounds of sand? Anyway, they finally found it and I was on my way. Of note: this location is on a hill, and it is bracketed by two roads. The eastern-most one isn't actually an entrance and will lead to a dead end. You must enter from the western-most road. Also, there was a huge pothole in the driveway, which was disappointing for a store like this.

Their prices might have seemed…read morehigher than the old Ace prices, but everywhere you look in this world things cost more and their prices are in line with the big box stores. Sometimes even lower. That really doesn't matter though, because the helpful service I receive here more than makes up for a few extra pennies. The staff are super friendly and have helped me with lots of projects along the way. I needed a weird part that wasn't available anywhere else and they found it for me in their storeroom and gifted it to me. I needed a certain type of paint on a holiday-eve and they spent the extra time going through their stash to find a suitable product. When the entire northeast region is out of salt and they have a shipment coming in, they were willing to make arrangements so that some was waiting for me when I showed up that evening. And when I need advice (and honestly, it seems to be always) they are a lot more reliable and useful than trying to randomly search Youtube. It is the smaller hardware stores that provide what most do it yourselfers (read: amateurs) really need: attention. Because of that, I will keep coming back to here.

I normally would not be in a hurry to write about a hardware store that is not near my house. How often would I likely be to visit it again? But this store caught my attention when I saw an ad for them on TV. They claimed that they have items not found in other stores. They also emphasized that they offer friendly and readily available service. Today, in search of a particular style cabinet knob, after nothing met my wife's satisfaction in Lowe's, Home Depot, and several other stores, we tried Chance's on our way through Latham. The first thing we noticed was a friendly greeting from an employee helping another customer in the parking lot. Walking through the store we saw everything very well organized and nicely displayed in a clean environment. Once we found what we were in search of, we met that same welcoming employee (owner?) from the parking lot on our way to the register. He was truly friendly and made the shopping experience a pleasure. The item we purchased could have been ordered for less from Lowe's, but it was not available today and we've never received such a sincere welcome in any big-box store. There is definitely truth in advertising from Chance's Hardware store.

Still in the 4" pots, these babies had sent out peppers all over the place! I am now home and kinda regretting not buying one... But I did buy 16 tomato plants... all for 1$ a piece and I just finished planting then out in my garden. They are beautiful and I think I might just make a special trip back up to this place .... Just the quality !!! It was incredible!! I come from a small town and we had a little garden mart and there is nothing like this where I currently live! Thank you :)
