We stopped here on a trip to Salida after a river walk and I was very impressed with their garlic naan, the owners/staff were very kind, the service was quick and the pricing was average. Unfortunately their chicken tikka masala fell short on flavor and the chicken was on the dryer side. The beef momos tasted and looked like they were store bought (balls of beef rather than uniform filling and dripping with oil). The chutney it was served with almost tasted like salsa which I wasn't a huge fan of but that's probably personal preference. The hot sauce they serve is more like a spicy oil. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy and looks to be more popular for takeout but it's very homey with each table having a map of Nepal and lots of Nepalese decor. We loved eating at the Sherpa Cafe! The food was delicious and authentic. We would recommend doing family style and sharing several dishes with friends or family because the dishes aren't really stand alone ones. We got the saag panir, which was very flavorful and definitely a favorite. The Sherpa stew was also very good but the flour dumplings in the stew took a second to get used to. The momos were great--we got the combo but the beef ones were the best. The staff were really amazing and friendly and the atmosphere was great. It's a small family owned place that just opened last year. The mom and daughter who run it are very friendly. The service was pretty quick, portions were big, and food was delicious. The service was phenomenal, our server just seemed like a really cool guy, he was very attentive and the food came out really fast. We shared the garlic chili momos, Sherpa stew, and garlic naan and they were so delicious! We would've ordered a second round of everything if we weren't so full. Just moved to the area and don't have kitchen set up yet. Needed something for dinner other than burgers and pizza. Lighter, more veggies would be the ticket. I've had Nepalese food before with good results so I gave it a try. Ordered the Vegetarian Rice Stir Fry. Yum! Just what I needed. Lots of veggies, especially love the cabbages; I think more than one kind. Has cashews, so if you have a nut allergy beware. The serving was large and I made 2 dinners out of it. A nice, quiet spot with good service. While I'm not an expert in Indian Cuisine by any means, I've had much better. The chicken in the Tikki Masala was overcooked and the sauce wasn't flavorful. After reading the Yelp reviews, we were looking forward to visiting Sherpa Cafe. The experience here was comfortable though the seating left us a bit chilly, cold during a very cold night. My girlfriend ordered black tea as she wanted something hot to warm her up and the only tea served was a bagged decaffeinated variety. Ok, we moved on. The samosas were tasty, very well done as was the plain naan. Her choice of momo entree was delicious but could have been served hotter. The Sherpa stew left a lot to be desired as it was void of vegetables and meats that we were supposed to receive. This wasn't a stew. Rather it was a nice bowl of broth with a few pieces of meat and few veggies. Definitely not, a stew! Parking was right outside in the lot and the restaurant was very simple in appearance. My less than stellar stew definitely affected my choice of rating. If I could give it 3.5 stars, I would. read more
