Guy Occhino is the owner of Sherman Home Inspections. Guy was recommended to me by a mutual friend. I hired him to conduct an inspection of my home and found that his services were above and beyond what I could have ever expected. Arriving 15 minutes early for a 10 AM appointment, he was thorough, knowledgeable, and personable. Guy spent seven (7) hours inspecting every aspect of my home. He looked at everything that I had concerns over, showed me things that I wasn't aware of, provided advice, and was a genuinely nice man. I would recommend Sherman Home Inspections to anyone looking for services like these ! . read more

No Mr. Occhino, I am neither a real estate agent nor a person who is angry that your inspection turned up problems in their home. A disgruntled person who lost money due to one of your reports would be a convenient explanation for my review of you. That is not the case here. I wrote my review as a public service to others. By the way, if this negative review of you should be ignored because the person writing it is not a verifiable client of yours, who is to say the people with names like Regular J. and Mh M were your actual clients writing honest reviews? One reviewer said you gave them names of contractors to contact which seems unethical if you are the one telling them they need to fix something. It is obvious from your response you were not an English teacher. Your "poor me" tirade is littered with misspellings and run-on sentences. Also, it is "due diligence," not "due-diligent" and the phrase is not hyphenated. Since you are so fond of seminars, perhaps you should take a couple on grammar and punctuation so the reports you generate will be readable. There are no nefarious reasons for the review I gave and your attempt to try to tie it to phantom people out there who lost money and have an axe to grind is laughable. If you feel I was wrong in the way I evaluated your lack of skills, you were certainly free to correct the record with your response. You did not even attempt to refute what I said about your paper thin credentials. Instead, you rambled on about people's rights and then you just reiterated what I had said about the importance of hiring a qualified inspector when purchasing a house. Being a licensed inspector does not automatically make you a qualified inspector. There is a very distinct difference. There are many good inspectors out there that know their stuff. You are just not one of them. You obtained a license to be an inspector by listening to online seminars and it is really a shame that both the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the State of Rhode Island set such a low bar for issuing home inspector licenses to people like you. It allows you and others to hold yourselves out to the public as experts, qualified to render opinions about all the important systems of a home. You just do not have the kind of experience you should have under your belt to be giving people such vital advice. You might be a very convincing and affable person but you are essentially a hack. When people hire a home inspector before making a home purchase, they should be getting opinions from real professionals who have a history in the building industry. They should not be getting half baked advice from a former math teacher who may have tinkered around his own house for years applying band aids to his pipes and electrical wires and who now thinks he's an expert. Simply put, you should be required to have years of experience in the building industry before you are issued a building inspector's license. It would be prudent for MA and RI to beef up their requirements for home inspectors so people like Mr. Occhino are not allowed to take a couple of online seminars, pass a test, pay a fee, put up a fancy website touting their skills, and hold themselves out to the public as experts in everything from building integrity to plumbing and electrical wiring when they have never worked in that field. They also get to charge exorbitant fees that are not commensurate with their knowledge. In this case, you certainly do not get what you pay for. Anyone who thinks an online seminar can replace years of hands-on experience in the building industry is a fool. Mr. Occhino's decades spent in the high school math department falls far short of the requirements needed for professions like pipe engineer, master builders, electricians, and plumbers. Even general construction workers most likely have more knowledge than Guy Occhino because they are actually building the houses Occhino is supposedly qualified to inspect. Anyone deciding to buy a house or to not buy a house based on Mr. Occhino's advice should think twice. Or better yet, just hire a home inspector with the right credentials to truly inspect and evaluate your property. You are not going to class to listen to a former high school teacher educating you about a thermostat, you are buying a house. Dispense with Mr. Occhino's 4 or 5 hours of fluff and nonsense and hire an inspector who can determine whether or not the house you are about to buy is a sound investment. read more

The service is far more worth than the price. Choosing Guy as our home inspector is a great decision. He is very professional, patient and humorous. He pointed out potential issues in the house and explained everything we asked. We don't have much experience about maintaining a house. Guy taught us a lot. I think a home inspection is not only inspecting the problems but also telling and giving advice to the home owner about the house maintaining. This is the best home inspection that I could imagine! read more

Just remember its your hard money your putting out, or committing to through your mortgage, when buying your new home or investment property, so don't go out and find the cheapest inspector, find one thats a realtor nightmare. Regardless of how much you "think' you know!! a second set of experienced eyes will see things you have missed. And definitely don't take the recommendation of the sellers agent regarding an inspector. I will say Guy is a unique inspector, he will go over ever detail and discuss same, so be patient, it could save you $$ down the road. He will also get into any nook or space he can [he's no spring chicken], remember he can only inspect what's visual, he cannot remove wall panels to see what's behind, he also does not have crystal ball to see a future condition, but he will highlight any condition that may lead to any issue Down the road. So yes I 100% recommend Guy! read more

My husband and I are first time homebuyers and are forever grateful to Guy for educating us through his home inspection. He not only did the most thorough job looking at every corner of our house and property, but he was also able to provide us with so much information, guidance and advice to help us feel confident moving forward and maintaining our new home. He was super easy to talk to, and knew just about everything there was to know in regards to home features and functions. We would highly recommend Guy---he exceeded every expectation and went above and beyond to do the job right and without missing any details. His expertise is unmatched! He made an anxiety prone process a breeze--Thank you, Sherman Home Inspections! read more

My girlfriend and I are first time homebuyers. Trying to navigate the homebuying process has been nervewracking for us. However, Guy has truly been a bright spot and a wealth of knowledge for us in this journey. He's not just inspecting the house, he's also teaching you how to use and maintain what you're buying. When we arrived at the house at 9am, he was already doing his perimeter walk and taking photos. He explained the issues, why they were occuring and the potential fixes. Within 20 minutes we knew we had picked the right inspector. It felt like we were examining the house with a family member the way he took the time to explain things to us and crack some jokes to ease our worries. We had numerous questions throughout the day (some good, some stupid), but Guy always had answers. Termite damage, mold, moisture, etc.; Guy found it and gave us a game plan on how to mitigate it. Nothing went unchecked. He even went out of his way to climb over a dryer in a closet to check an electrical unit. We were practically kicked out of their house after his over 4 hour inspection. Once complete, he sat in the backyard with us and wrote up his report, which he then explained on the spot. If you are comparing inspectors based on price, just go with Guy. Every penny was earned. The inspection was incredibly thorough and he was very personable. I rarely rate or recommend things, but I had to here after our great experience with Guy. read more

We had a great experience working with Guy as our home inspector. He was thorough and knowledgable about what to look for in our home and gave us a list of what we should focus on fixing after our home purchase and what could wait. He even recommended several reputable contractors for different needs and we already had our roof done with Guy's recommended company...they were also great. Highly recommend Guy Occhino. read more

As I spoke to other home owners prior to hiring Guy, from Sherman, they told me they were unhappy with the national firms that did their inspection, it was completed in two hours and they found allot of items that were missed after moving. I found Sherman to be professional very complete and discussed with me at every interval what he was finding. It took him around four and half hours, plus he came two days prior to put the radon tester in the home so he could have the readings and report 48 hours late, r the day of inspection. He handed me the report when leaving and later that day gave me the pictures showing his findings. I would have no hesitation in recommending Guy from Sherman to complete my home inspection. This is probably the largest purchase you would ever have. Elliot read more

Guy was a great inspector back in February when I had an offer accepted on a condo in Boston. I appreciated the thoroughness with which he approached looking at the condo and explaining all of the issues to be worked on. He's old school in that you receive a handwritten report but he has pictures that you can always ask for. read more

Guy just did our home inspection and I can't recommend him enough. He was so thorough and detail oriented, I learned more about our new home than I could have imagined. What was really great were the labeled photographs he emails after the inspection. These were something tangible I was able to bring back to the sellers' realtor and use to negotiate down the price. You really can't argue with photos of the problem. Be prepared to spend about 3 to 4 hours on this home inspection (more than I've ever encountered but worth every second). read more
