This place is truly mind boggling…read more The firm markets itself as the "go to" accounting firm for tax resolution which can be such an intimidating and scary situation. One would expect timely responses to communications and excellent follow up. You will get neither here. In fact, you will get ZERO responses to pretty much any communication you make - to the point that it almost starts to seem like a joke. You can use the portal they ask you to use to send messages and you will get ZERO replies. You can use their direct emails and you will get ZERO replies. You can call and every once in a while get an assistant who will set up a zoom meeting for a week later. When you do get an answer to something, it will contradict previously received information. The worst however, is that they disregarded my very clear notes, written in bold, bright red text, and filed an incorrect tax return, under-reporting my income by 75% percent. For $1,500.00, I expect an accurate tax return to be filed. I had to find a new accountant to file a correction and will now be paying penalties and interest on the lost time. I assumed that the problem was my specific accountant, but when I wrote to the firm and cc'd all partners that I would not longer be working with them because of their abysmal performance, true to form I received...NO REPLY. No apology. No explanation. No acknowledgement. Nothing. Just the usual, bizarro Lawler & Witkowski crickets. They should be embarrassed.

My husband and I went here because we had an eventful year; we got married, started new jobs, moved…read morefive hundred miles across state lines, and bought a new house. Kind of all at once. Our accountant was competent, though sometimes hard to reach. She did a decent job and was very, very nice in walking us through all the crazy tax stuff, and was instrumental in helping us get a refund. My point of contention was the price - it was probably around five hundred dollars. What? Am I crazy? Am I just horribly naive when it comes to this sort of service? I've heard from others that have hired independent accountants and have never had to pay nearly as much. I kinda think we were incredibly overcharged. Maybe I am crazy, but I just don't think H & R should be charging this much. I understand saving up to pay one's taxes, but saving money over the course of the year to pay the accountant at what is basically the McDonald's of tax firms? Hmm, no.

To be honest, this H&R Block location does have capable personnel. Several years back, they helped…read moreme navigate a very complicated matter involving two years of semi-taxed income while working overseas. I paid a hefty price for their service, nearly my entire return, but I was happy to have it done, in the rear view mirror, and purportedly with the H&R Block audit protection guarantee. In the intervening years between then and this year, I lived under more typical circumstances, used TurboTax like so many, and enjoyed knowing that almost all of my return was mine. The fee for TurboTax is miniscule by comparison. This year, however, my switch to a slew of contracting work demanded more professional attention. I turned to H&R Block and wound up again paying them my entire refund for their assistance with my 2013 refund and their setting up of my 1099 estimates (for which they charged over $100). A few months later, I found myself in need of an update to those estimates. Imagine my surprise to discover that the office was closed and my representative was nowhere to be found, wound not even meet with me to discuss my situation. Imagine my further surprise to call Esther Gulias for a quote and learn that estimates only charge $25.00. They took car of it simply, efficiently, easily, and for a far cheaper fee than H&R Block. I do believe that the service you experience at this H&R Block Premium location will suffice. If you're looking at a complicated tax situation, they will navigate you through treacherous waters. But do frequent them with the knowledge that additional support may be difficult to obtain and that you may find more competitive pricing elsewhere. Finding another location with better support or better pricing may be in your best interest.

Paul refiled and adjusted/fixed all the mistakes I had made. I was also refunded the money I erroneously paid to the IRS due to my misunderstanding of tax laws. I need to clarify here in that it's not so much misunderstanding but more so weird wording on the forms.Anyway, he helped me out greatly and continues to do so now. This past August I needed to file a form. Tax offices are pretty much closed in August. This form was necessary for a legal issue. I was able to reach Paul and the form was filed within 24 hours. Cost - $35.00. Can't say enough about his knowledge and willingness to work with his clients.

I struggled for 4 years, with the IRS, to correct a tax return that Paul and his staff initially completely botched (not that demanding a return)! I will admit that the IRS owns some blame for their inability to communicate what error(s) Paul's team had originally made, and my mistake was to keep asking Paul to correct the error, that he obviously didn't understand in the tax code from the beginning. Needless to say, four years later I am out over $20,000 dollars, which is part interest due to Paul making errors on not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 documents he prepared on my behalf, including the final amended return which had a simple mathematical error that almost caused the IRS appeal to come undone, and left me in a compromised position while negotiating with IRS appeals staff. When I contacted him through a small claims action to get him to at least pay the interest that his mistakes had partially caused, he refused to accept blame. Do yourself a favor and steer way clear of this agency!!
