I like reading books on sports (well written ones), historical biographies, political non-fiction and American literature. They have it all. What they don't have, they will find. The staff is always very helpful. And everything is reasonably priced. On your first trip, just go in and look around and you'll find books you didn't even know you wanted. If you're not likely to be back for a while, bring a list of books you're interested in to save time.

As we wandered up the main strip we were mostly looking at places we'd want to come back to for some deeper dives and this bookstore was one of them. After going to the museum then next day we stopped back in and I left with a couple of vintage cards and two great books. The guy let me haggle on the cards and gave us a discount on the books. If I ever get back up to Cooperstown I hope this place is still around. Great selection, pretty well organized, good prices and the guys working both times we stopped in were great.

He had to chase our 4-year-old around the shop to keep her from pocketing every rock in the shop. Valerie was great about it, very family friendly. She gave Hope, our daughter, a bucket and then quietly asked us if we'd like to pick a couple of rocks out of the bucket when Hope was done looting her shop. We ended up buying a bunch of cool rocks and souvenirs. Before we left Valarie gave us directions to the local rock hunting grounds on Sugar Loaf Road. It's clear that she loves geology and fossils and it shows in every interaction. The shop was great, but the owner was much better.
