I called to get a quote from this independent agent for a top rated auto insurer for a policy. After taking all the information (since he couldn't find the on line quote form I had filled out with the insurer on line), the first agent announced that another agent would get back to me with a quote since she handled a friend's account who had recommended the agency. She didn't. So I personally stopped by and talked to another agent who took all the information again and gave me a quote. When I called about a question I had on the policy, he didn't return my call. So I emailed him. No response. So I called one last time with my question and gave him my cell phone number. No response. I went to another independent agent who gave me a quote (after taking all my information a third time) and he answered my question. In short, I am not sure why JD Power rates the top rated auto insurance company so high since the service is totally dependent on an independent agent. Perhaps my experience is atypical. I was surprised at the customer service I received at this Carmel independent agency since a friend of mine had highly recommended them and had used them for years. read more

I've known of Shepherd Insurance for years as we used to drive by their old office on Carmel Drive. After State Farm kept increasing my rates and gave me a .5% deductible (Without my authorization!!!) I decided to give Shepherd Insurance a call. I had a similar experience as the reviewer below with Ben Coe. He was able to lower my deductible from $5,000 to $2,500 give me coverage for my finished basement up to my nearly $1,000,000 dwelling limit (he explained that I only had $10,000 before!!) AND lowered my annual cost by 20%! I was shocked at what he was able to do. He was very professional and patient with an insurance novice like myself. This insurance company not good at all. I as a business owner my company has been with them since long long time. And i have once reported minor water licking issue thru the roof in my building in 2017. And next thing i found out that 3 months later i received a letter from them saying my insurance will be cancelled starting feb 1,2018 because of a minor water licking issue. With that being said this company don't care how long you have been with them, they care about the money they are making. Totally disappointed with them. read more

I expect an insurance agency to be able to adequately explain my coverage and premium. Once this agency got my Workman's Compensation premium I was on my own. I had questions about how the premium was calculated and made several attempts to clarify the premium I never got an answer that made sense to me. I was recommended Shepherd Insurance from a coworker when I moved from out of state. Of course I still shopped around at other providers, but not only did Shepherd have the lowest cost, but their customer service is really what did me in. I cant say enough about how helpful every employee I have dealt with at Shepherd has been, specifically Robbi Gwaltney. They truly do put their clients needs first. I have received nothing but very poor customer service for three years of being insured through Shepherd. I really liked the coverage offered and the rate I was able to receive but again, the customer service was horrible and one of the worst experiences doing business with someone I had ever had. When contacting Shepherd, I either never received a call back, got transferred numerous times before being able to speak with someone or when I did speak to someone they were rude and unprofessional. I left a message with the manger of this agency as well to give my opinion about the poor customer service being provided and never received a call back. If you are looking for a comfortable and reliable company, this isn't the place to go. Shepherd needs major improvement on how they treat their customers. read more
