I don't remember where I first read about the dinner at the Buckhorn Inn as a do-not-miss when in Gatlinburg. I called several weeks in advance for a reservation, as guests of the Inn have first refusal for dinner. Initially, the day I was looking for was booked, so I straight out asked if they had any availability for any of the days we were there. ...and so we headed out on Saturday evening for the set menu of assorted in-house-made bread and rolls, a vegetable and white bean soup, beef tenderloin with asparagus and potato, and a dark chocolate ganache torte with orange marmalade, all for an extremely reasonable price. There is also a wine recommendation for each night's meal, which my husband went for (excellent), and when I requested coffee, our server went right to the kitchen and brewed a fresh pot (also excellent). In addition to the wonderful meal, the atmosphere in the dining room is restful and comfortable with a large fireplace hearth in the center. There is also a veranda right off the dining room, lined with rocking chairs, where you can sit and look out over the Smoky Mountains, and unlike most of the rest of Gatlinburg, it is quiet and meditative. Take a deep breath. The staff could not have been friendlier, kinder, and more accommodating. If you are in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area, DO NOT miss the opportunity to head to the Buckhorn for dinner; just call ahead to make a reservation and keep your fingers crossed that they have room!

This was such a breath of fresh air in a touristy town with many loud, crowded restaurants with mediocre quality food.

We were greeted by one of the managers when we arrived who made us feel welcome. While there is not daily housekeeping, we had more than enough towels (and coffee pods!) for our three night stay. There was a fire through this area back in 2016. There is no sign of the fire in the remaining lodge building. Off to the side, up a hill, are the foundations of former their lodge buildings and restaurant. The view to the south includes some burned trees in the distance, but I found that it didn't take away from the ambiance. Due to the fire, the does lodge have a more remote feeling due to the lack of telephone, cable, or internet. We didn't miss any of these, and we had reasonable cell phone reception. I look forward to seeing the lodge thrive again and wish the owners the best in their continued renewal.

It's unfortunate what happened with the fires back in 2016 but the business keeps on pushing through. They still have a decent amount of amenities even without the other spaces they had offered before the fires. The rooms are a decent size, especially for two people. They offer a full sized kitchen which was nice so we didn't have to eat out every night. The balcony is cute & have great views of mt leconte. The bed was comfy & everything was clean. They had plush robes in the closet which were super comfy & great to put on after a hot bath in the spa tub in the bathroom. They also maintain hiking trails right by the lodge & they had a nice set up by the creek, there was a bathroom down there & a fire pit and lots of chairs set up. The lodge is only a mile up the road from downtown & the national park entrance so it's in close proximity to alot of great things. The only issue we ran into was not enough parking but we made it work. Overall had a great experience here & would definitely stay here again.

The server was quick to take the food back, but when it came back, it appeared to be microwaved rather than "remade". I could hear other customers around us making the same comments that this restaurant "wasn't like this the last time". Which is sad. I truly hope they are just in a funk and bounce back because it was a fond memory for us the last time.
