Second time here, will keep coming back. Can't wait until it gets warmer to try the big patio area next to the river. Great food!

Best cocktails in Montrose, they distill all their own spirits, and fresh press all their juices.

I'm honestly a little bummed that Shelter Distilling is sitting at around 3.5 stars. It should be…read more5 stars! because we almost passed this place up because of the rating -- and I'm SO glad we didn't. I had the Strawberry Salad and a taco, and we also had the fish and chips. Everything was absolutely amazing. The food was fresh, flavorful, and far exceeded our expectations. Our server, Emily, was incredible. She was friendly, attentive, welcoming, and provided the kind of service that makes you want to come back. Emily, thank you for taking such great care of us! The atmosphere is another huge plus. You're right by the river, the setting is beautiful, and it's just a great environment to sit back, enjoy some great food and drinks, and relax. If you're looking at the reviews trying to decide whether to come here, GO. Give this place a chance and decide for yourself. We're incredibly glad we did. Highly recommend Shelter Distilling in Montrose!

Over 2 hours for a mediocre lunch. What a shame, beautiful building and location but NO staffing!…read more Our server, Christina, was good but so frazzled as she had no help even though it was lunchtime and many occupied tables inside and out. 35 minutes for "small" drinks is bad! Food service was slow also, and food only average especially the Colorado Chili Relleno which was poorly presented and virtually NO poblano chili! Should have been a tasty dish but was very uninteresting done. Overall food was OK but overpriced.

Stopped in here tonight and loved it!…read more When we first walked in the owners Scott and Juli happily greeted us and immediately made us feel like a part of the Wild Horse Wine & Whiskey family. The ambience is awesome...décor is western/rustic meets comfy. The cozy leather couch and two side chairs in front of the fireplace is such a nice space! Their wine & whiskey menu was very enticing, but we opted for some tasty Chardonnay. We didn't order any food, but they've got some yummy looking charcuterie boards...next time for sure! Overall I really dug this place and wholeheartedly welcome them to the Montrose community! Y'all know how much I love to support my local businesses! :-) Check them out! You won't be disappointed!

I came in on a Saturday evening to find the place almost empty. Despite that, the server didn't…read morecome to offer me a menu or take my order for 10 minutes. That's not an exaggeration, I timed it. Their menu has an extensive list of Colorado whiskeys but no descriptions of the flavor profile. I asked for a recommendation, and without asking for any of my preferences they recommended one in the cheapest / one star section. There wasn't much of an explanation behind their suggestion and no tasting notes. Not surprisingly, it wasn't great. I had planned to stay awhile for a few drinks but between that and the awkward empty vibe, I waited (another long wait) for the check and left. I hate to leave a bad review for a small business but this one just missed the mark completely.

~*~Review is for a visit for the monthly Cocktail Class ~*~…read more We are new to town so still getting ourselves familiar with the area. We had not been to Storm King before but had driven by frequently and wanted to check it out. My partner surprised me by securing reservations to their monthly cocktail making class - very cute date night idea btw. The theme for this night was 'Sips & Dips' which consisted of 3 cocktails paired with some type of dip food item to snack on. The menu covered a nice variety of flavors/styles so there was definitely something for all preferences. Each drink was centered around a different spirit which was nice as well. We were very impressed with the quality, presentation, and easy to follow instruction. This was truly a 10/10 experience. We are already looking forward to attending another!

The bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable, and cared not only about the drink they were making but also about their craft. Being from out of town, we enjoyed hearing stories about the local history and upcoming events. Storm King Distilling offers a rye whiskey, a wheat whiskey, and a "fun" whisky called Side Gig. They also make a white tequila, a tequila aged in oak casks, a silver rum, a vodka, and two types of gin. That night, I tried both gins. My favorite was the barrel-rested gin. It had a nice smoky flavor due to resting in oak barrels that were freshly charred.
