We had an uplifting conversation which turned into me hiring him and us working hand in hand with communication to get the job done. He came on time like he stated and actually came earlier than promised. He came in and I wasn't even quite ready but he was patient and very helpful and he installed all of the window material and a couple of pantry shelves that I was seeking to get done. He did an excellent job. He didn't rush and I was very happy with his work and very please as I looked at the finishing touches. I didn't have any expectation's but we are all looking for a happy and satisfied outcome, and I know I received just that. he also was helpful and picked up and brought my furniture boxes in the house that were sitting in my hallway and that had nothing to do with the service he was providing. Daniel was really easy going very professional and very understanding to what I was trying to accomplish. I highly reccomend you hiring Daniel. I see Daniel as a NEEDLE IN THE HAYSTACK, and it just takes a minute to find him but when you do, you will have the best outcome you were seeking guaranteed. I do plan on bringing him back in for the rest of my home needs. I want to thank Daniel also for the great service he provided.

Venturing into the basement of the old factory/warehouse building is a huge part of the fun. The space is stuffed with a huge variety of table lamps, floor lamps, chandeliers and the occasional piece of furniture. Deco, arts and crafts, mid-century modern and other vintages are represented. New old stuff comes in all the time. The prices are reasonable, and unlike the lamp you got at that garage sale last year, these are all re-wired with safe modern switches, cords and sockets. There is secure indoor bike parking in the cavernous mostly vacant basement outside of Cosa's space. Currently open on Fridays and Saturdays.

Once we found someone working on a door, we asked if there was a store called "Cosas" and one of the three workers knew it. They pointed inside, toward the basement and said it was there. Though it felt a bit like risking my life, I went down to check it out and found an unfinished basement with more workers and serious tools. Another worker appeared and guided me to a hidden section of this warehouse basement where I found lots of dust and some lamp stands and lots of interesting doodads and knickknacks. I can't imagine this store has always been located here, and hope that there's a better way of finding it, for the sake of anyone looking for a lamp or an interesting piece of furniture to take home. They have a little of everything. It's mostly lamps and lampshades, but they do have chairs, tables, vases, chandeliers, some paintings, and a couple of candle stands and/or stuffed animals. Their inventory changes very frequently, so I recommend visiting this place every couple of weeks if you're looking for an interesting piece or want a funky lamp for your place.

Habitar Design is an Exceptional, Outstanding, Extraordinary Design Firm! High Praise from an…read moreExcessively Particular Couple so this Says A lot..... I was given the opportunity to work with Habitar Design specifically working closely with Mitch Newman and designer Hannah Tindall. My boyfriend and I had just moved into a stunning downtown condo where we were excited to make it our own in terms of design, constructing modern built ins in the family room/living room, adding custom cabinets to our existing kitchen, new hardwood floors, updating two bathrooms and desired a new design layout. And let me say in all honesty, we are excessively demanding with details and obsessive with mundane details....and yet Habitar Design still exceeded our expectations! With many downtown condos, our space was small, but Mitch Newman and his design team allowed us to capture the feeling of "home" and express our taste in our new place. We were immediately drawn to Mitch Newman's attention to detail, level of professionalism, brilliant visionary work, and his craftsmanship is truly an artist's work. His background as a physician demonstrates a level of commitment and knowledge, and all his life experiences really allow him to be magnificent in his craft. I cannot stress enough, the level of quality in his craftsmanship---gorgeous, it was beyond beautiful and better than I had imagined! Our friends & family had no idea we had customized and designed our own built-ins with Mitch, they truly thought we had ordered them from one of the high end Italian stores in Chicago. He was a true visionary from his design of the plans, execution of the construction, selection of materials, even down to the choice of a cabinet or drawer fixture. We also loved working with Hannah Tindall as our designer. She was able to keep us organized with our design ideas and encourage our own creativity but allow us to showcase our design aesthetic in a tasteful, functional, and cohesive manner. Hannah Tindall worked tirelessly to make sure our experience was delightful and inspiring. I would highly recommend Mitch Newman, Hannah Tindall, and Habitar Design, and will definitely use them again in the near future. Unfortunately, my relationship with the boyfriend did end after 6 years, but the most difficult part was walking away from my beautiful home. I didn't want to leave my gorgeous home where Habitar Design inspired and captured my perfect aesthetic combination of personalized palette colors, room balance, modern comfort, and my love for the space. Thank you for the amazing experience and look forward to seeing you soon for a new project!

Their work did not disappoint! The designer was so helpful in transplanting my vision into a beautiful design plan within my budget. Everyone at Stratagem from the owner, Mitch, to each person that works for him is helpful, thoughtful, and committed to doing good work. We used Kathryn's design expertise to remodel our kitchen, first-floor full bathroom, and front porch. Working with Design Inside was money well-spent because Kathryn is talented in both technical and creative design. She measured and prepared for every contingency when creating a plan to transform our galley-style kitchen into an expanded and multi-purpose open-concept design that included kitchen, mudroom, and workspace. She was efficient in helping us make design choices to update our bathroom, and concise with material recommendations and measurements needed to replace our front porch. Kathryn and her team were respectful of our time, budget, and input. Every selection for purchase was presented as a choice, and we knew we were always guided to the best price point. Kathryn recommended when to pay for quality materials, and helped us find savings in other parts of the design to off-set the cost. We are most happy with the selections we would not have made without her involvement. We could not have completed our home remodel without Design Inside, and would happily recommend them to anyone looking for guidance on small or large projects!

We used Design Inside for our recent condo renovation, and we were pleased with our designer,…read moreAbigail. We had looked into three or four design firms and went with Design Inside because we got along well with Abigail from the initial consultation. She's friendly and had suggestions from our first meetings. Our remodeling scope was pretty basic (resurface hardwood floors, install new tiling, new lighting, new kitchen countertops/backsplash/hardware, painting, etc.) We weren't planning on taking down any walls or putting up new walls - hence "pretty basic" in our eyes! The initial few weeks involved back and forth with designs and occasional meetings with Abigail so she could get a handle on what we wanted done. Abigail was accommodating with meeting/phone times, and would often meet with us late afternoons or early evening. She created designs we had never thought of doing (enclosing in structural poles, wainscoting, etc). Abigail also was able to easily "read" my husband and I in terms of color schemes and we ended up choosing one of the first few samples of tiling and backsplash that she dropped off with us. Kudos for that! Abigail also provided us bimonthly hours summary / detail so we knew how much we were being charged for her services. She would break down the time she spent working for us by the minute and it was helpful to see where our dollars were being spent. From a "grand overall design", Abigail did a good job, but when we started getting into the details in the later phases, we did run into a few minor issues. I recommend ordering all materials / furniture / art yourself and not going thru Design Inside. With a little work on the intranet, you can find it cheaper, not to mention a lower delivery charge. We had a few material mix-ups with Design Inside - i.e. we received the wrong hardware; not enough tile or grout was ordered. Abigail's measurements for the den were incorrect so she didn't order enough tile / grout - her measurements for the wallpaper were also off, but this time we almost ordered too much. The invoice system used by Design Inside is a little confusing and you should pay very close attention and track your own expenses. It's hard to describe but trying to track all the bills and refunds with the invoices provided was difficult. Overall - I would recommend Design Inside and Abigail for your remodeling needs. I would just offer a bit of advice to double check measurements and order your own materials, but would still recommend the company. Abigail provided different designs and options that demonstrated her design skills as well as her ability to connect with us in terms of what our goal of the remodel was. In our eyes, that was key.

The process was super easy, we met with Adam and Tony and had a design meeting where they asked thoughtful questions about our needs and vision. Later we had a couple design pitch meetings where they presented their interpretation of the creative design of our space. They did an excellent job of listening to our needs and ideas and thoughtfully designing the creative elements of our shop. Since the Build Chicago has its own wood shop, they custom built much of our project before we even started construction in our cafe. This made installation a breeze and helped to expedite our build. Adam and Tony especially showed their experience during the onsite build portions of our project when they navigated the inevitable unknowns all projects face when doing construction in an existing space. Ill note that they were understanding and willing when we made design changes mid project when we noticed that our original design ideas needed to be modified. With all of that being said, The Build Chicago offers an excellent experience at a reasonable price given the quality materials, knowledge, and experience that they offer. I would recommend them for any project requiring custom woodworking and design, even more-so if the project is for retail or food service as they have actual experience in the food industry. Go with the Build Chicago, you wont be disappointed!
