I've used this gas station for many things - State Inspection, Photo Inspection, and finally just today to fix my car's clockspring cable. Long story short, Toyota Dealership was gonna charge me $1100, I thought they could kick rocks while I figure out an alternative solution. So I did - brought the car to Shell - they told me what part to order and when I got it they put it on in under an hour. I was afraid to do it myself since I have a newer vehicle and have only replaced a clockspring on an old one one time. Overall, the service was fast and great and costed under $150, including the price of the part. Great place, I highly recommend it! read more

I tried to fill up with 87 octane and the attendant told me only 93 octane was available. However when I put my card in, the 87 was available and I filled my tank. The attendant lied to try and make a profit off me on the 93 octane. This was not the first time this happened at this station. Avoid!! read more

I stopped by for State inspection. They told me my brake pads and rotors needed replacing immediately, having the galls to tell me it's not worth my kids' safety. Didn't get a good feeling about this, not least of which because they didn't even remove the wheels to inspect - so I got second then third opinions. One mechanic even took my brakes apart to show me so I can compare against a normal brake pad and so I can see the color was still not yellow. The brakes were fine. These guys tried to scam me, I didn't fall for it but wasted a lot of my time. read more

Okay gas price for Upper East Side, not exactly cheap but they are a full service station so it's a good choice during one of the winter days last month. This is a last gas stop from Harlem to midtown so it became a frequent convenient stop for me and alot of Manhattan drivers. Smaller than most gas stations, pumps is a little old so gas quality MIGHT not be as good. ( Old pump = old storage tank ) Service is great, friendly attendants. read more

Do not go there for inspection or to get your car fixed. The new manager is a crook; he will tell you that you need some expensive repairs in order to pass the inspection. He quoted me $450-$500 for fixing parts that cost $100! Guess what, I went to a "real" garage and my car passed the inspection without any problems. read more

Is this place under new management?! I've had my car inspected here before without a problem, but this weekend's experience merits a review. Friday: I called to ask whether I could bring my car in that day for an inspection in regards to my insurance policy. I was told yes, from 9:00AM to 6:00PM. When I arrived, I was told that these inspections were only performed at 10:00AM and 2:00PM daily. Frustrated, but not defeated, I agreed to return the following day at 10:00 AM. Saturday: I arrived at 9:50 AM and presented my car for inspection. I was then told that inspections were only performed at 9:00AM and 2:00PM daily (?!?!) and that I would require a car wash prior to inspection. My car had actually been washed this week, and was not dirty. Shady, unfriendly, and unreliable service. Steer clear of this place. read more

Every once in a while I need to rent a car to go on client visits or head out on a weekend getaway. There are not a lot of gas stations around and this one is close by where I live on the UES. When the other Shell on the corner of 96th and 1st Ave is a mob scene with cars and taxis I head up a few blocks to this one that never seems as busy. It's really convenient to have when returning a rental car and need to fill the tank. As with most gas stations in NYC the prices per gallon are high. So glad I don't own a car and just need to rent one occasionally. If I owned a car in this city I would get road rage and run someone over. Probably a bicycle delivery guy that doesn't pay attention. Or one of those annoying UES snobby baby carriage mommies that think they own the road. I would end up on high speed chase up and down the FDR being chased by the NYPD. In the end I would crash the car into the east river and swim to shore. At least I would have had a full tank of gas. read more

It's hard to know where to go in Manhattan for car repairs. David, at this station, has been amazing. I pulled in for an inspection with my check engine light on when the shop was packed. David came out the minute I asked and read the computer to tell me why the light was on... did the repair same day, tightened my steering wheel belt which was squeaking as a good gesture and then spent half an hour resetting my idle also just as a gesture. I gave him $20 and insisted on hugging him which he didn't love, ha ha. Repair prices here are set by the computers suggestion of time to make the repair... so if the computer says 4 hours but David does it in 3 you're still going to pay the computer suggestion as David is not the owner. I dont know if it's different in other places or the same or if there is room for negotiation. I paid $280 to replace my oxygen sensor on my 12v year old Subaru... but in terms of honesty two major thumbs up!!! read more

This is hands-down the best inspection center in New York there ever was. They're actually open till 7 PM and the inspection was done in less than 15 minutes. Went to this place late last Friday afternoon (2/28) to get a NY State inspection sticker before March 1 (2014 is not a leap year, so it was urgent!). Guys did it quick, no bs. I appreciated that they took the extra time to carefully scrape off every bit of the last registration/inspection stickers (which I had started to peel, but mangled) and align the new stickers perfectly. only challenge was that the place was a madhouse of cabs filling up on gas during rush hour. but i kinda enjoyed the maneuvering, honking, and cursing. very ny. read more

this my go to gas station when i am on the fdr drive south bound and i am low on gas cause once you pass this gas station the chance of finding another station is almost zero. the price are a little higher then other places and when it's crowded there is a good chance you will block traffic on lexington ave, but it's open 24/7 for gas but it's kinda spooky inside the office so if you need snacks or drinks just go to the 711 across the street after you fill up. read more
