TL;DR - Do not wash your car here. The workers don't appear to have been properly trained to safely wash cars. Washing your car here may result in your car being severely scratched (like mine). The manager won't take responsibility and will attempt to convince you in bad faith that the damage didn't occur during the car wash. Multiple other reviewers have reported similar incidents of scratches following a car wash here (I wish I had read them before coming here). If you read this review after your property has been damaged, Cory, the manager won't let you file an incident report. The only recourse will be to sue the business and file a small claim (which I will do). UPDATE 01 posted on 03/08/22: it will cost $1,875.65 (see screenshot) to repair the damages caused by Cory's team. Cory, I offer you to settle if you pay 80% of the cost. in exchange, I will not pursue with suing you and will delete this review. If not, I'll move forward with filling a small claim in the coming weeks. Call me if interested to discuss. Prior to the incident, I came two other times for a car wash at this gas station. I was moderately satisfied with the washes because one time there were still some dirt spots left on the car. However, due to the convenient location for me, I came a third time because my car just had gotten trashed with bird poop on the hood. Big mistake... I had selected option 2. The two guys went for the regular procedure using high pressure hoses and brooms, then the guy at the front went for some "extra care" on the hood. Then, the car went through the automatic washer (which by the way isn't washing as much as a fully functional automated washer). I came back home, parked my car, and as I usually do, I looked around the car (which is brand new with less than 1,000 miles). I was horrified to notice that the hood of the car was severely damaged with multiples scratches at the location where the worker provided "extra care". I immediately called the gas station and a lady took notes of my report and told me that the manager will call me back the next day. The next day, I called back around lunch time and was told that the manager will be back in 30 min and will call me back. An hour later, I called back and was told that the manager wasn't there but that he would call me back in 2 hours. After 2 hours passed, I called again, Cory the manager picked up the phone. After I related the incident to him, he immediately attempted to exonerate himself from any possibility that the scratches could have been caused by the negligence or lack of training of his employee. He told me that he will review the video and call me back tomorrow. I offered to send him the pictures of the scratches, but he told me that "it wouldn't change the outcome." As I felt his words were transpiring bad faith, my wife and I decided to not wait but to go to the gas station instead. Cory was there. He looked at the car and once again claimed with a presumptuous demeanor that the scratches couldn't have been caused during the car wash (it's not the first time his business is being accused on damaging customers' cars). He asked for 5 min to go check the video. Then, he came back and asked us if we wanted to watch the video. We went to his office, and he showed us the video. Obviously without the ability to zoom in, it is impossible to discern whether the car had scratches before entering the wash job. Also, it seems likely to me that the footage Cory showed us was truncated (or at least cut short), only showing part of the washing procedure. Although the video presented as such would have been inconclusive to an external party (you could not tell wether or not the car had scratches before and/or after the car wash due to the poor footage quality), Cory said "you see, the worker didn't scratch your car". During all our interactions, Cory kept making claims such as, "your car wasn't scratched here", "your car was already scratched before the wash" (my car has less than 1,000 miles). I'm surprised that Cory can make such bold statements when his business has had many customers complaining their cars being scratched at HIS car wash. Finally, I told Cory that if he doesn't want to recognize his responsibility in damaging my car, I will fill a small claims suit and I will stand by this action plan. My advice to Cory, train your workers better so they don't leave scratches on customers' cars. You know how to reach me if you want to settle this matter. If you persist acting in bad faith, then, expect my attorney to serve you in the coming days. Let the judge settle this matter in court. read more

Bad. Bad. I was told to get the most expensive car wash as I had bird poop on my car. Fine. The guys scrubbing told (kinda ordered) me to give me the ticket and roll my window up. Fine. It didn't come off the two other guys told me I could go to the back of the line and get another car wash for free. Ok, sure, thanks. They even wrote "take your time" on the windshield. I tried to tell the guy scrubbing where the problem areas were but he didn't care just told me to roll my window up. Sure enough it didn't come off. The other two guys got the manager but he didn't really care. He had one of the outside guys manually scrub bird poop from my window which I said they didn't have to do. He said he was going to talk to the by-the-carwash scrubbing guy about his "attitude" - not my word. I understand that's a hard job and that this isn't like pro detailing, that there are limits. Which i said. They manager really did have an attitude, where nothing I said would be acceptable. He challenges me with "so what do you want me to do?" But clearly didn't want to hear anything. I said it didn't seem like a full effort they gave, though I can certainly accept the limits of what will come off. IMO that manager is the problem, affecting the other workers. He could have said "I'm sorry, I don't think we can get much more off. We can either run your car through a third time and make sure to scrub the problem areas hard, but no guarantees, or give you a free one for next time," and I would've come back. I'm not going to ask for that though after how he approached it. Now I won't be going back. So if your car has anything but surface dirt, go somewhere else. read more

So many car washes have closed! I'm so glad to find this one that works really well. It's not just a drive-through. I parked my car under a tree and it looked like someone had spray-painted it with sap. I brought it here and got the #3 wash. They did a good job, and most importantly, cleaned all the sap off. I'll definitely be back. Don't forget to tip before you enter the auto-wash portion. read more

As you can see, my car badly needed a wash because it was covered in ash from the County Fire in Napa/Yolo counties. I was so impressed by the car wash line management that was going on. I appreciate the organized system and numbers they put on the cars. Clearly there were tons of others who wanted a clean car before the summer holiday weekend, so there was high demand. Yes, it took a while to sit there, but it was worth the wait and I wasn't in a rush. Few things to remember: this is a fast, simple wash, good for small or compact cars, one of the few in the city open during the week and a basic wash does the job. Expect to wait in line anywhere between 7-20 min. (Depending on if it's busy or not). If you want a high-quality, detailed wash or have a bigger car, I'd go to a hand-wash only place. read more

Good or even decent automated car washes are hard to find in San Francisco. This one does deliver in both value and quality. I really appreciate how close this place is for a quick gas up and wash. I have a little Mazda 2 and I sure as heck don't feel like detailing it myself half (most) of the time. The vacuums are handy right after as well and the staff is ALWAYS pleasant (unless someone is being a jerk, then of course I'd hope the team would take a firm tone with the dummy trying to cut the car wash line). I don't quite understand all the complaints about the wash not being that great. It's $11-15 and the nice guys who hand wash for the first part usually aren't tipped - I see y'all! A wait is usually expected when I go here. Some reviewers have even started their comments off with "This is the only car wash within X mile radius and it takes forever." Sort of an oxymoronic complaint if you think about it ;P Defensive post is defensive, but I think this Shell team deserves props for what they do in a densely populated area. My mother called ahead to check to see if the staff does vaccuming. They said that they do. So, we go there specifically for the purpose of getting the automobile's interior cleaned. Then, when we got there, the people working there claimed that they don't do the vaccuming. As my wife will attest, I can live in a pig sty. Dirt and mess usually doesn't bother me, but my car was getting beyond filthy. I park it in my driveway and I haven't washed it in months. Found the Geary Shell Car Wash on Yelp and decided to try it out. I opted for the $9.95 basic wash for my disgustingly filthy car. Go to the little booth and asked the attendant how much a basic wash was. He gave me a funny look, took my credit card and gave me my receipt. I looked 1 foot to my left saw the sign posting the different car washes and prices. At least he didn't didn't say " did you see the sign in front of your face idiot". Off to the car wash. A couple of guys hose the car down, spray with soapy water, then brush scrub. Then you're off into the automated car washer. Ride on the little tracks through the swish-swish and come out with the blower thing. Overall, the car was real clean. Didn't have to get wet and just sat on my butt for $10!!! I park my car outside like most people in SF do. I used to have a favorite spot at Tower Car Wash when they used to have a Yelp deal for 50% off but that went away so now my car gets washed even less often. Since I don't have $23+tip to get regular car washes every few weeks I resorted to just let my car get nasty. Recently I had enough with the thick crust of gunk layered on my car so I did what any good Yelper does....search for a decent car wash! I eventually found out about this place and was surprised to find a drive thru wash that had staffed people scrub parts of the exterior. I haven't tried tipping the guys that scrub the exterior, but maybe I'll try it next time. I was also lured in by the deal car they had. For $50 you get 6 wash passes which comes out to like $8.33 per deluxe wash. Your car won't be the cleanest, but it's nice to wash the junk off in between the more extensive washes I'll do at Tower. You can pull around the corner and finish up the job by vacuuming your interior with some extra quarters on hand and quick dry with a towel from home. read more

Even with the guys that power hosed my car down before it went through the car wash machine, my car came out with spots and dust still on it. I paid for the top tier car wash too. Wheels and crevices like the lower parts of the car doors and around the back license plate looked like they hadn't been washed at all. You know, this car was isn't terrible and for the price in San Francisco it's quite a deal. The most expensive option is $15 bucks and does a decent job. I'd highly recommend bringing your own towel to wipe down the car afterwards though. The blow dry definitely doesn't do what it's supposed to. What I liked was the two guys who gave the front end of my car a good power wash and scrub before entering the automatic drive through. That's def a bonus. This location also has vacuums available for 2.50 for 5 minutes. There's also a sign posted that says "no detailing" but, that seems pretty flexible to me :) read more

This used to be a higher than warranted priced drive through car wash. Now they've raised their prices and it seems like shortened their drive thru time. The lines seem longer too. The manual wash before entering the drive thru used to be more thorough also. Now it's a manual wash with a way too quick drive thru in which not all the equipment is fully doing the job. Gas stations are pretty hard to find South of Market. And this particular Chevron has saved my butt on more than one occasion. I can't tell you the number of times I've driven home from the office with an empty tank. And right before my car sputters to a permanent halt, this Chevron on Mission Street appears on my horizon. This station is my knight in shining armor. There's never a long wait to pump gas. They also boast a well-equipped convenience store + Starbucks. And they also have a relatively clean restroom. You have everything you need to refuel both your car and body. Only downside, you'll get the occasional panhandler hitting you up for money at the pump. My car passed through the machine way too fast, the brushes barely touched my car, afterwards there were water spots everywhere, and my windshield was actually dirtier afterwards. I had to pull over and squeegee the windows so that I could drive. I am a business owner and this is my work car, and I couldn't go to work after with my car looking like this. Good option for washing off accumulated dirt from street parking. Don't expect detailer quality clean but good enough to leave your car sparkling from a distance. The lines can be pretty long so go during off hours like 10:00 AM and you'll be in and out pretty quick, make sure to tip the guys too as they do put in a bit more effort when you do. The gas station pumps are all pretty standard fair, no hassle there. There is a vacuum and parking spots if you want to dry/clean your car yourself, but only 4 cars fit there and it is often taken. To start, I was unsure of what payments this car wash accepted because there is NO SIGN indicating whether debit cards were accepted or not. As I got to the register (in my car) where I handed the worker my card, he THEN informed me that the car wash was CASH ONLY. But how are consumers supposed to know that?? The annoying thing about this is that once you're at the register in your car, you cannot back up and get out of line, you are forced to go through the car wash. So, I gave the worker my card to hold until I was able to get cash. The register at the gas station doesn't even give cash back. So after visiting 4 stores, walking aimlessly trying to find a place that gives cash back, I decided to walk to Target just to get the cash back (about 4 blocks away.) Here's the best part. When I got back to the car wash with the cash, it turned out they conveniently charged my card while I was gone and the cash I got was unneeded. Thus far my SF car wash options have ranged from (1) high-end $25+ deals which leave you feeling robbed and regretting the immediate depreciation once you drive off the lot (see Touchless on Divisadero & Fell) to (2) $5 DIY deals that never quite get everything you need to get off with the tools provided. Then I thought I'd struck the perfect balance in the on-site drive-through auto-wash, which usually range from $6 - $10 until I left an indelible auto and emotional scar trying to drive within the frightening metal bars (see duck tape on my headlight). But thanks to Shell on Geary & Blake, the terror is gone. Sure, they have the same auto-wash setup with the scary drive-bars but with one HUGE addition: A real live human being! Just pay your ($8 in this case for the basic) fee and pull up to be greeted by a friendly man who augments the auto-wash by first hosing your car down, getting out the tough spots with soap and thereby ensuring your car is going to be nothing but perfect at the end. Critical for me is the fact that he then guides you to ensure you're actually IN the metal rods. No more "windows up, put car in neutral, brake off" automaton voice -- this guy is THERE to make sure all is good. And just around the corner from TJs so you can get all your personal productivity errands done in the same hour. Squeaky five! read more

I'm not sure why people give such low reviews for a drive-through car wash. I mean, it's a drive-through car wash. Lower your expectations. You're not paying $25+ for 4 people to hand wash and vacuum your car. You're paying for a quick, less cursory but probably good enough, wash because you are too lazy to do it yourself. Get the 6 for $49 deal - doesn't expire and gets you the #3 "premium" wash every time. There are people who will power-hose and scrub down your car a bit before going through. They did an okay job. They presoak your car with power-wash hoses as you start to slide on in, so all the bird poop and bug splatter was gone by the time I got to the other side! One star off because I could probably do a better job if I did it by myself, or if I spent the extra money for a detailer. (But I'm lazy and cheap [see above], so I suppose I shouldn't penalize them). Another star because right now they charge $x.95 depending on what wash you get. It was a complete scam. I stopped here to get a "car wash" I paid $11.95usd for the "N.1" carwash. When I arrived at the automatic station there were two guys with pressure hoses throwing water to the cars before entering the automatic car wash station. I told one of the guys to please also pressure wash my tires. He mentioned "The N. 1 carwash you pay doesn't include this" are you kidding me! No tire wash for a basic automatic wash is included?. I took my brand new car for a car wash here. It's in my neighborhood so I thought I'd give it a try. I chose their most expensive and thorough wash. You know how it is when you have a new car :) What completely floored me was not the fact that my car was still not clean afterwards but that they scuffed one of my rims and put a significant dent in it.
