I had a pretty amazing experience at this station, courtesy of a wonderful young woman named Raven. My wife sent me here with a $50 gift card to purchase gas and some merchandise. The total was about $60. I gave the cashier the gift card, then when she finished I swiped my credit card for the difference.
About four days later, my wife asked me about the credit card charge, which was for the full $60-ish amount. I could only vaguely recall the transaction by this point, but was sure I'd given the cashier the gift card. I thought I remembered her giving it back to me after it was done, and was pretty sure I'd just thrown it away since it should have been used up. I called the station hoping they may be able to do something, but pretty convinced that we were going to lose out on the value of the card.
The manager, Raven, answered the phone. I explained to her what I thought I recalled. She asked for the day and approximate time it happened. Based on that and a description of me, she was able to pull up video of the transaction. She saw me give the gift card to the cashier, and saw her hand it back to me. As it turned out, she had run the card for 50 cents, not 50 dollars by mistake. Raven took me at my word that I had thrown the card away because I thought it was empty, and without hesitation told me that if I came back to the store she would give me a new card with $49.50 value on it.
I have to say I was pretty floored. She would have completely been within her rights to tell me sorry, nothing she could do, and that would have pretty much met my expectations. I'd have been disappointed, but would have felt I had no one to blame but myself for not paying more attention. Instead, she made a common sense judgment call which really cost the company nothing, since the original gift card won't be used, and created a fantastic customer experience. So I would like to thank Raven again for doing such a great job! I hope your customer-centric approach and attitude take you far in life! read more
