It's not far from I-285 exit 38: US 29 / SR 8 (Lawrenceville Highway) - Tucker. This is a large, older generation QT with 24 pumps. I stopped by this gas station on the way back into town from nearby Stone Mountain. I like QT for the following reasons: (1) they have low, competitive gas prices, (2) the gas stations are generally bright, clean, and spacious, and they feel safe, (3) they're open 24/7, (4) they have free air for your tires, (5) the food is actually pretty good (the hot dogs and ice cream in particular), and (6) customer service is usually good (the uniformed employees greet anyone who enters). This QT is no exception. During my visit, I noticed this QT uses one of the newer Gilbarco Veeder-Root fuel dispensers so the filling station has presumably been upgraded at least once. This is a solid gas station and decent convenience store for the area.

They're clean, they're fast, their employees are well-trained, they have their own kitchen, they have easy meals, and their drink prices are affordable. Incidentally, their coffee is also the only kind I actually like. So when I moved to Georgia, in a huge new city, I'm not sure you can possibly imagine how happy I was to see a QT station. It was like bringing a little part of home with me. Now, that said, being so far away from Oklahoma, I had expected at least some changes in policy if not at least changes in food. But there is no change. None at all. This QT could be a twin copy of the QT I frequented regularly back in Oklahoma. Everything in the store is even in exactly the same place. And the service... that remains just as good as it was back in Oklahoma. When it comes to filling up my car, I've always trusted them much more than many of the other personally-owned stations around town.

The only problems I've ever had here were due to "customers" who were just hanging around outside, drunk or begging, or both. They don't have that problem very often, and I don't fault the business for this, when it happens infrequently. The food is also better than I usually expect from a gas station, although it's hard to beat a Bojangles biscuit from next door!

After waiting several minutes at the register, I was met with an unnecessarily rude and hostile attitude when I simply asked how she was doing. She repeatedly insisted I should have used self-checkout, even after I explained that I was paying with cash. What is most disturbing is how the situation escalated. Despite remaining calm and attempting to remove myself from the confrontation, I was treated as though I was a threat. I am deeply offended by what I believe was racial profiling and the implication that I was somehow dangerous simply because I am a Black man. No customer should ever be made to feel that way while trying to make a purchase. To make matters worse, Shonte' refused to provide her name when I requested it, and I had to obtain it from another employee. I have already contacted RaceTrac Corporate and requested a formal investigation, including a review of the security footage from that morning. This was one of the most unprofessional and upsetting experiences I have ever had at a convenience store. RaceTrac should hold its management team to a much higher standard.

I went to Pure on the recommendation of three childhood friends who still live here. They ALL said to go to Pure. I grew up in Decatur and left for grad school many years ago. I recently returned after living in four states during my career. I have always had three criteria when I make a move to a new location, and they have served me well. Find: 1. A Doctor you can relate to and trust. 2. Someone who gives a great haircut. 3. An auto mechanic you can trust and who does great work. I've found #3 in Decatur Pure Station. After my early check-in, I sat in the waiting area for about two hours, watching and listening to the manager interacting with customers. My observations? Friendly, matter-of-fact, clear. Andy explained everything going on with his client's cars. He made recommendations, and more importantly, noted what didn't need to be done. He gave accurate representations about when services would be completed. For my car, he got the part quickly and told me they had looked over the whole car and only found one repair that needed to be made (besides my originating situation). He was accurate in his honesty, because I already knew I was needing a new rear brake job in the next month. While my car was being repaired, I walked around downtown Decatur. I reacquainting myself with some old, and mostly new, businesses and restaurants. I arrived back at the repair shop in the mid-afternoon, just after they finished repairing the car. Andy explained everything they did, and gave me a very fair price for the service I received. Am I ever glad to have found Pure. Five Stars, and even higher.
