I pulled in and they had an agreement with OK Tires a local place. I drove it there and they said it would be 2 hours. We took the local shuttle into town and returned by cab as requested before their closing time of 4:30pm. No sign of the car in the lot or on either of their lifts. Went and was informed it was parked up the street make a left and walk down that street until I found it. It was ¾ of a mile away. No sidewalks, no shoulders through a street narrowed by a construction zone. We're 74 & 72 years old and that walk was not on our dance card. In hindsight I was so unexpected of this I walked out without blowing my top and telling to shove their shop UTA!

We figured out that the AC Compressor seized. I call the shop and told them what happened and they told me they would look at it as soon as we got it there. Upon arrival, they confirmed our prognosis and started looking for a new compressor. We had to get back to the west coast for the next morning. No compressor was available that day. We decided to by pass the compressor. After trying a few belts they figured out that if they moved the idler pulley one of the belts would work. We got on the road and got home on time. The potatoes that came with our breakfast were actually way better than the ones pictured in the menu. They were cut red potatoes with green onions and red peppers. Soooooo tasty, not greasy, perfectly seasoned. My only beef with this place, and it is a fixable one, is the rye toast we ordered was SWIMMING in butter/margarine. I ACTUALLY, no really, I ACTUALLY rung out my toast and it dripped with butter. We drove into town during a snow storm and our car just got caked with mud. Even the windows on our rental SUV couldn't withstand the muck. The problem is, everything is so gorgeous in Banff you want to be able to see! So, one day while my husband and I were driving to our next destination, I looked up car washes on Yelp to try and get some of the gunk off so I could enjoy the pretty scenery during the drive. We found Dirty Dog Car & Truck Wash and pulled in. It's a do it yourself station so it does have some pros and cons. Pros: Good pressure, cheap, with big bays so it's easy to maneuver around your vehicle. Cleaned up our car really well. And since the weather held out and stayed sunny and dry, the cleanliness lasted the rest of our trip! Cons: only two stations and they're vertical in relation to each other. So if you're stuck behind someone you have to wait until they clear out so you can leave. Or if they're the first one's in, they're blocking the other washer so you have to wait, or back into the stall. We had a showdown with a very aggressive pick up truck driver as we pulled in. Not pleasant. It's the closest car wash to Banff that I could find, so you're stuck with it no matter what if you want your car spiffed up. But luckily it gets the job done without a lot of money.

Napa Autopro - S&S fit us in on a Friday afternoon just before we were to head off camping for the weekend. The repair was quick, effective and was less than $40 which was the most surprising part of the experience when you will just pay anything to be able to get on the road. The staff were funny, helpful and the collection of antique signs around the shop are really cool. They even took the care to road test and re-torque the lug nuts. Who does that nowadays? They even called after the weekend to make sure I was happy with the repair.
