Got on yelp to see what's on our way and found this little gem with positive reviews. Normally I am not the one who likes to eat "outside" but since it's a vacation I was like what the heck I'm not going to give up on good food, and we are so glad I didn't insist. Reasonable price, good portion, gravy gone through all the fries to the bottom of the container... I mean honestly what more can you ask for in a poutine? Well let me tell you, the variety of toppings (I had the shawarma chicken and hubby had the all meat), there is a mountain of meat and sauce and gravy, and that's one of the reason why I don't have any photos to proof to you as they are so delicious that we started digging in enjoying the food before we remembered to take photos of the food. But let me tell you, if you are in the area, or not even in the area but you love poutine, drive here and give it a try, you won't regret it! Oh did I mention the owner is super friendly and there's a cute patio outside for you to sit and eat instead of eating in the car as that's something I will definitely not do and because of the patio, I gave it a try and am so happy I did!

I nervously popped into Poulet Rouge, intimidated by the menu and all the choices and received the friendliest service. I ordered a mini bowl with lettuce as a base. They offer plant based chicken, and opted for that, going with the shisha garlic flavour. The mini comes with a choice of 1 sauce and 3 toppings. I went with the chipotle sauce which had some nice kick to it. I topped it with cucumber, feta and tzatziki. The bowl was a perfect size for a quick light dinner. The plant based chicken was smokey and it was grilled to order. They have a couple seats to dine in away from the food court. Service was super quick and they were so friendly when I asked for recommendations. (sorry I forgot to take a picture, but I will next time I am there, because its now a new fave)

You can get everything without chicken too if you are a vegetarian/vegan, but they do not have alternate proteins. This location is in the St Laurent Shopping Centre (the other location in Ottawa is at the Rideau Centre). It's in the food court, but they actually have their own private seating, although you can bring your food to the main food court seating as well. I've had Poulet Rouge before, in Montreal, and at the Rideau Centre location as well. I really like the food at this chain. This visit I got the build your own Rouge Bowl ($10.99). You get to choose a chicken flavour (Hercules/lemon, Shisha/garlic, Fusion/BBQ or Volcano/spicy), a base (brown rice or bulgur, you can upgrade to quinoa for an additional cost), a dressing, and 7 toppings. I got the Hercules chicken with brown rice, no dressing, spinach, tomatoes, beets, bell peppers, black beans, cheese, and tzatziki (which counts as a topping and not a dressing). The food here is consistent with the location at Rideau. I feel like they might be a bit more generous with the meats in Montreal, but it's been a while since I've been there, so it might be they've shrunk portions everywhere. The chicken portion is still good, and my bowl was still very tasty. Service was friendly and the place looks clean. Poulet Rouge is definitely a welcomed addition to the St. Laurent food court :)

Breaking p the rings on the poutine made terrific more so! Last week we ordered delivery because I had twisted my leg and the driveway was covered by frozen snow and the city plow had just passed. But the lad, rose to the challenge, delivered through the garage door and even spread salt and grit to make walking easier. But, don't forget the food: more pulled pork and onion rings for me, while the wife did her traditional poutine but with a quarter pound hamburger and cheese.Awesome once again, and she says she liked the burger even more that the last one she had had from The Works. I went here with my brother to get some fries, pogos (aka corn dogs, I hadn't realized that "pogo"…read moreis an exclusively Canadian term until my American friend, Karen K, pointed it out to me, lol) and hot dogs for my little nieces. I have never had a pogo in my life and have no inclinations to change that. I also don't like hot dogs, so all I tried were the fries and they were great. The fries were a bit sweet (from the type of potatoes they use) and they tasted fresh and not from frozen. I liked the texture, they were not mealy. I like that they are unsalted. I think a large was like $6 or something like that. Pogos and hotdogs are $0.99 each. My older niece who is a picky eater and had never had a pogo before, took one bite and proclaimed "I LOVE POGOS!" Lol. She ate one and a half pogos, which is a lot for her. The breading looked crispy. The hotdogs were tiny and they were steamed. The nieces rejected them so my brother and dad ended up eating them. The place is really popular; we had to stand in line for a long time. Decor is old school diner-like. It reminds me of those casse-croutes that are ubiquitous in Montreal like La Belle Province, Lafleur Restaurants, and Green Stop. Most food here is greasy and fried. If you're trying to eat healthy this is not the place to go. It's not my kind of place, but for what it is, I think it's good. It's in a plaza, so lots of free parking.

I will say that in 30 years of having poutine, this is by far some of the BEST poutine I've ever had. Despite the gravy, the fries are CRISP and it almost looks like there's a 1 to 1 ratio of fries to cheese curds (and more than enough gravy to drown it all). We ordered a single large to share between the two of us (we had a long road trip still and didn't want to totally destroy our systems while sitting in a car for 4 hours) and it was more than enough food. Despite not a lot of customers, the place is busy and there was a small wait while our food was prepared but it was 100% worth it!
