In my personal opinion all poutine sorts tastes the same and despite it being so expensive, it just tastes like an average poutine. I don't know why everyone in Ottawa is getting a WAP over this place as if they can't go get a gravy packet and cheese at no frills and make the same thing at home. It's still cool tho. We got some takeout from this little poutine shack in Orleans. We ordered a large poutine that came with cheese curds and gravy. We also ordered two cheeseburgers. I really liked the poutine. Incredibly friendly staff, very fast service, at a more than reasonable price. Hands down the best poutine in the region. Yes, that includes Gatineau. The fries are very flavourful and slightly sweet. I don't know what kind of potatoes they use, but they are absolutely perfect to counteract the saltiness of the cheese and gravy. The cheese is well distributed throughout and if you get extra cheese you'll be looking at a perfect 50/50 fry to cheese ratio. The gravy has some depth to it and a savoury/peppery finish. I can't really fault this poutine for anything. It's as close to perfection as you'll find in the National Capital Region. As far as traditional poutines go, this might beat out any Quebec poutine I've had to date. The only thing that might surpass it is a galvinaude poutine I had in Drummondville. read more

WOW. I'm not sure what I was expecting when my boyfriend suggested we head here for lunch on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Even as we were pulling into the strip mall parking lot, I could smell the distinct aroma of perfect chip truck poutine. A little shack (coincidentally near a Weight Watchers and yoga studio!) in suburban Orleans, this absolutely qualifies as a hidden gem. There's plenty of picnic tables outside and a few tables and chairs inside just in case you'd rather be indoors. We both ordered hot dog and poutine combos and a drink, and the total came to $13 - totally worth it! The operator was super friendly and sweet, and even managed to calm down an irate customer who was upset that we got served before him, by explaining that it's mandatory for them to cook hamburgers to a certain temperature. I took one bite of my poutine and was in total food paradise. The fries, made with peanut oil, are absolute perfection. Crispy and golden and smothered in fresh curds and savory gravy, this is how poutine was meant to be made (and devoured). The hot dog was also delicious and tasted just like it was hot off the grill. The bun was toasted too! They have plenty of toppings including pickles, horseradish, onions, and the other standards. I also happened to noticed they recently added deep fried bananas to their menu - YUM! If you're in Orleans (and maybe even if you're not!) you need to get yourself to this fantastic small business. We were looking for something in the area and found this listing on Yelp. Sorry to disappoint (and disagree with everyone before me) but I'm putting this as simply A-OK (3 star), not the 5 star everyone else gives it. This is a poutine shack. As far as shacks go, it's good! There's even a small seating area for about 6 people at three tables. Customer service is great. Payment is cash only. Lots of parking in a private lot. All good. They offer burgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, fries, poutine, onion rings and fried bananas. Tried bacon cheeseburger, onion rings, poutine and the banana - most of the menu in other words. ;-) Burger - OK. Non descript bun, fresh toppings, slightly over-cooked burger. Poutine - dark gravy, good fries, good taste but very salty. Sharing a small with hubby was good. I could not eat a whole order myself due to the salt. Onion rings - delicious. Battered and crispy. Fried Banana - yummy, though after all of the above my heart wasn't in it. Some powered sugar would kick it up a notch, but I'd order it again. Of everything it was the greasiest. Overall enjoyed trying a new (to me) place, but it's not something I'd drive out of my way to go to. Would I return: If I'm in the area, and looking for poutine, yes. Um, yes. I flew into YOW, Ubered to my hotel, dropped off my bags, and literally took an Uber to Fritomania. True story. When in the area, one must poutine. Unfortunately, I didn't know the location was cash only until I was ready to place my order, but there's an ATM less than a half-mile down the road, so after grabbed some cash, I walked back and ordered a medium poutine. The order came out quickly and there was plenty of space at the picnic tables outside for me to sit and enjoy the very generous serving. The fries were hot and crisp, the gravy was salty and savory, and the cheese curds were melty without losing their shape. Basically, this was everything I wanted after traveling for seven hours. I took more than half of the serving home to my hotel room which I enjoyed later as a late-night snack. The employees who work at Fritomania are seriously some of the most smiley people I've ever met. They were super welcoming, friendly, polite...and even willing to write a receipt out for me (required by my company). I don't know when I'll next back back in Orleans, but when I am, I'll be sure to pick up some poutine here! read more

Haven't had poutines all over the city but hands down the best place in ottawa in my opinion. By far better than elgin dinner and has many options for dressing your poutine, not like elgin of course because it's a ship wagon. Small warning they use peanut oil. Unfortunately, it is not healthy for me to eat deep fried foods, but I cannot resist the occasional visit to the chip wagon. And this is the one I do visit. Their fries are fried in peanut oil which gives the potatoes that unique chip wagon taste. These are the best French fries in the area. They have won the CJOH prize for the best poutine in Ottawa a couple of years ago. They also serve hotdogs, hamburgers, corn dogs, sweet potato fries, etc. I have not tried any of these but they are popular to other clients that order there. I CANNOT believe someone has not written a review of this place. This is the BEST poutine ever. Okay, a caveat. I'm a Californian who was introduced to poutine ten years ago when I started dating the man who is now my husband. I have eaten a lot in the years since I first had it off a chip wagon in the Byward Market in Ottawa. The first thing we usually want when we get into Canada is generally a poutine. Now, for the Americans out there who haven't been introduced to the joys of poutine, it's a heart attack on a plate. It's just so wrong and yet so right. Poutine has three ingredients: fries, cheese curds and gravy. Call the cardiologist before you go. Most people I tell about poutine in the US look at me as if I was saying eat Alpo on fries. Fritomania is run by two very friendly Vietnamese people. They have a fry machine like they have at In n Out burgers that cachunks the freshly peeled potatoes into perfect fries. They fry their potatoes to perfection in peanut oil. The fries are crisp even drenched in gravy. Their gravy is a mix made with chicken stock which gives it a level of flavour that is so different from what you get at some place like New York Fries (which isn't bad when you need a poutine fix). The curds are St Albers which have a nice give when they aren't melted dreamily over the hot fries. They aren't excessively salty curds which is good since the gravy is salty enough. The person who told us about Fritomania drove us out from Kanata to Orleans for the "best poutine in the world." If that doesn't impress people from the Ottawa area, here's the kicker: she's a hard core vegetarian. Yeah. Fritomania can make a vegetarian reconsider. We went twice in one week during our recent visit to Ottawa. My husband and I nearly demolished a family sized poutine (a big take away box for $10.75) and on our last visit, I took down a large poutine ($6). They have hot dogs, burgers, pogos (aka corndogs) etc but their main focus is poutine. The place is always mobbed. It's in the same parking lot as an Asian restaurant and ....Weight Watchers. I bet they have a hard time getting people to lose weight with Fritomania there. Go. Go get the best poutine ever. read more

Everyone seems to be focusing on just their poutine. There are several other reasons why Fritomania is the best chip stand in eastern Ottawa.. Bacon cheese dogs, sausages, bacon cheese burgers.. And that's just the food. The guys who work there, always remember their customers, they greet us with a very warm welcome, and if it isn't on the menu, they will make it for you anyways. One thing I cannot deny is that there food is not bad. But that being said is that they are the only frie shack that uses peanut oil!! given that a large portion the people have a peanut allergy, I find it unreasonable that they haven't changed to a more common oil so that everyone can enjoy their products. Most of my friends and family haves peanut and nut allergy and it is regrettable that they cannot enjoy this food.
