The food is equally as pleasing, with a simple yet delicious menu of Arabic specialties. The chicken yiros has to be my all-time favourite, yet I'm also a big fan of their hot dogs. No matter your choice, it's always satisfying. Their coffee isn't great, and I think if they served Arabic coffee instead it would complete the experience. And if that's not enough, the shop owners are implementing a PS3 gaming system in the lounge area - if they get the games right, I don't think I'll ever need to leave. It has managed to stick around when others have failed, largely because of the quality of the shisha, the sense of community the place attracts, and because it is open when others are not. The staff are expert at the etiquette and use of shisha, and certainly don't mind assisting the newcomer. Although in Hindley Street, you're more likely to see friends playing cards than you are a pack of drunks, and Horus is not a licensed premise. If people are bothersome, the staff are quick to act and I always feel safe. The shishas are professionally assembled and I have never been short-changed in tobacco. Staff are continuously outside with containers of coal, ensuring you get the most out of your shisha. Unlike some other places in town, there is no deposit required for shisha use and there are multiple flavours and two sizes. I've been told that they will be getting new stock in soon, including my personal favourite "cappuccino". The owner, Yasser, let me test a new combination "watermelon and mint" which was ok, but I will be sticking to my staple of "grape and mint", at least until the "cappuccino" arrives. Since smoking laws have relegated shisha users to the patch of sidewalk outside, the decor of the inside has slipped a little, though the toilets have certainly improved. Aforementioned toilets are located towards the back of the business behind a door marked "staff only" to discourage use by unscrupulous non-customers, but I always use them and patron-use is fine. Occasionally on the weekends you will have to wait inside for a table to be free outside to smoke a shisha. In the summer time, the experience of smoking a shisha outside can't be beat, but winter along Hindley Street can be bitter and I usually take gloves. As far as the food is concerned, it is a simple kebab shop, but all ingredients are made fresh daily, which is also why I think their kebabs are the best in town. The quality of the falafel and the tabouli is particularly good. Horus also provides pots of mint tea, made just as thoughtfully as they do everything else.

The music selection was eclectic when we were there, ranging from Amy Winehouse to some odd electronic jazz. I've found that restaurant food is expensive in Australia, and even a bit higher here. But the burger was big and came with fries and even a few onion rings. The soda I had was priced about the same as other places. Strangley although I had specified takeaway, it came out on a plate. I wasn't given napkins or anything. When it was brought out to me, a french fry fell off. The bartender saw it, made a comment about it, and then just left it on the floor, which I thought was odd. She didn't come back, so I picked it up. Another fry fell off, so now I lost two. I couldn't find a trash bin and the two bartenders were busy, so I left the fallen fries on a counter. The burger was good, nice and juicy. It was topped with bacon and the usual suspects of lettuce and tomato. There was a mayo topping that seemed to have a mild kick. It comes with beetroot relish but I asked that it be left off. The fries and onion rings were crispy outside. At first they smelled a bit fishy - must have used the same oil - but thankfully they did not taste fishy. It was a satisfying meal, the hit of protein and fiber I needed. This is my special night out or even not so special night out starting point. The cocktails here are truly unique and now having collectively tried quite a few with partner and friends I can't find fault. (My personal favourite is the Violet Champagne Cocktail.) The setting is luxuriously decadent and seductive, the cocktails seduce even more and the alcoholic ambience is stupendous. A Sydney friend makes this her only must do whenever in Adelaide. Not that us Radelaideans need to compare ourselves in anyway - do we? I can't rave much more except to hint that whether it's Valentine's day, Birthday, Anniversary, Chinese New Year, Haven't Seen Old Friend's For Ages or you've just had a shitty week at work make a beeline for The Collins.
