It's a little gem of a park, an old marble quarry and some quirky wooden walkways and bridges that look down on the Hudson brook. The brook has created some unusually rock formation that you can look down on your walk. There's also some nice hiking trails on the other side of the park from the waterfalls.

The YMCA is permanently closed, and instead we found an elementary school where you can park, alongside which you begin through a short woodsy path and then must walk maybe 1/4 mile through the neighborhood before discovering the trail. The hike is a beautiful gentle up and down through the woods and along a river. It's only about 2 miles in-and-back, mostly very easy, but has a few tricky but fun spots where you may have to navigate over a tree trunk or carefully walk over rocks/uneven terrain at the edge of a shallow point in the river . The waterfall is a nice feature where you can sit and enjoy the sound and vibe before you turn around to head back.

Def worth going a little out of your way for. Couple of things: -No swimming signs are posted-I've head people still do it. -There is a port-o-let in the parking lot-didn't use and not sure if it's unlocked/clean but if your coming for more than 1/2 hour may be smart to bring some t.p. -There are a few picnic tables by the falls-but if it's crowded then your prob going to need a picnic blanket. -The road that gets you to the park is rutted in places so go slow and don't drive in the ruts. If you have a super low car because your one of those types then skip this as you will prob bottom out. -Bring a trash bag and take your stuff (and anything you find) out.

The only critique about this place is that at the end of UMass' school year the place tends to be packed and at times people leave their trash everywhere. Physical requirement is…read moredifferent tho, Kaaterskill Falls has about 500foot of elevation change and a lot of slippery stone steps at the end, if you come here when the weather is still cold. Parking: most people park at the Laurel-House Road parking area, because it is the closest. Or you can park at Mountain Top Historical Society, the old train station, which an extra mile. Starting from the old railroad station is nice, you can still see some old tracks on the ground. Walk to the overlook is fairly easy, once you get to the start point of Lower falls junction, it is where you need to be prepared. I recommend hiking shoe, especially in colder months where the ground is wet and iced. When you reach to the stone steps, they can get slippery. I am surprised no one fell in late March. Half of the steps were cover in ice and people were wearing regular sneakers. Once you reach the base of the two tier falls, the view is tremendous. If water levels are high, you can feel the energy of the water. There is a lot of spray from the falls when you get close. There is short trail to the middle tier pool. It was iced up during winter, spikes will definitely be useful. The end was amazing too. So close to the lead of the waterfall. You can keep going and follow Escarpment trail and follow the edge of the valley. There is monument for fireman Frank Layman who died during firefighting in 1900, at his monument, you can see route 23A bend around mountain. And if you keep going, there are a couple viewpoint to overlook the valley. Nice break points to enjoy the view and rest your legs.

I took this journey at the start of February, and there was tons of snow on the ground. On the first day, I arrived at the Massachusetts parking lot around 3 PM I figured I had a good two hours before sundown. I turned back after walking a short way down the trail because it was so steep, I thought I was going to tumble into the river. When I got back, I watched a video of someone hiking on the Massachusetts side, and I realized that the trail is normally full of stairs This makes sense because it's very steep and that's why it's so short but because of the snow, the stairs are covered up I would definitely not recommend using the Massachusetts side in the winter On the second day, I got to the New York parking lot around 2 PM. I made it about halfway down the much more gradual and scenic trail before I turned back. I turned back because the sun disappeared behind the mountain, and it was dark and windy On the third day, I got to the New York side at 11 AM. This time I realized that the top of the trail is just always dark and windy because it's in a corridor between two mountain peaks. So I pressed on. It took me about one hour to get to the end of the trail. I walked pretty slowly and stopped to look at nature a lot. If you are not someone who is super confident staying on the path in the forest, these are fairly easy trails because it's just a straight line the whole way there and you are following the river the whole time. I'm so glad I didn't give up because the falls are one of the most beautiful magical things I've ever seen Instead of water flowing down through the ice, it was snow and slush bursting through the sections of the frozen waterfall the water exploding into 1 million tiny snowflakes from the top to the bottom I plan to come back here in the summer with my kids and I think they will really love it.

From the second we pulled up, she looked at us with pure attitude, like we were beneath her. She made us feel like an inconvenience, snapping and acting like we didn't belong there. It was humiliating and completely uncalled for, especially considering she was literally with 2 different customers- how professional! After snapping at us for simply entering the premises, she continued to laugh at how she had just treated us in front of other customers (who experienced the whole thing) For reference, she was a blonde woman with neck tattoos, so there's no excuse for whoever in charge to not know exactly who this is and take action. I seriously don't understand how someone with that kind of nasty, hostile energy is allowed to work with the public. She has no business being employed anywhere near customers. She should be FIRED IMMEDIATELY. This woman ruined the entire experience, and because of her, they've permanently lost a loyal customer. Absolutely VILE behavior that will not be tolerated and this will be continually reported until action is taken. It's sad, because the gentlemen that work there are so kind and made our past experiences so wholesome. It was truly the place to go when you needed a break from the busy world. Super unfortunate how some nasty unhappy woman could ruin it.
