This is a great state campsite in Rensselaer County in the Taborton Mountain area. iIt's a Windee ride up the mountain to find it but there's something for everyone here-hiking trails, boating, swimming, picnicking beach for swimming,basketball and a modern playground for 2-5year olds. It's a carry in carry out facility-they do sell ice but there's nothing close as far as stores so bring everything you need. The campsites are mainly shaded areas but they come with fireplaces in picnic tables I don't believe RVs are allowed. Six dollars a day to park if you're just using the day facilities. read more

Cherry Plains is a little gem of a state park. It encompasses 175 of forest, pond and trails. The park has a sand beach, picnic pavilion, hiking trails and 20 campsites. 10 of the campsites are drive in sites appropriate for both tents and small campers, the other 10 sites are walk in tent only sites. The park is surrounded by 4,153 acres of wildlife management area. The black river pond is small but pleasant for paddling, with rowboat pedal boat rentals at the park. It's so much quieter than the other state parks in our area, and just beautiful. read more

Don't necessarily want to put this on the map, so to speak, but this is a very nicely kept state park. We stayed here for three nights on our first excursion to a NY State Park. The bathroom facilities are very clean and the staff regularly check in on them. There is a nice dish sink available as well. We stayed at site 9 which probably isn't the best one (nor the worst) because it shares space with site 2. These sites don't appear to be on top of one another on the camp map, but they are. We would return, but pick another site to stay at. Sites 3 & 4 are primo and directly on the lake (3 more than 4). They share a boundary with one another, but are also bordered by the camp road and the lake, so are relatively removed. Site 5 is also nice, but doesn't have direct lake access. I would recommend against 6&7 unless the noise from the bathroom won't bother you. Nothing gross, but the door bangs shut and I myself was noisy washing dishes as the sink is metal. Sites 17-19 are nice and spacious with a slight view, but are also a walk to the bathroom. The walk-in sites 22-27 looked very nice with 22 being closest to the parking lot. I would stay at these but be prepared to haul your gear. The bathrooms are a bit of a walk, but made up for by the views. (Privacy may be a bit tight in this area though). The park does allow dogs, but they are not allowed at the beach area, so it can be a challenge to get access to the water without climbing through the woods. The boat launch area can be a good place for your dog too. The atmosphere here was good. They don't overly-police people. It can be a bit noisy at the campsite near the entrance where we stayed, but nothing horrendous. There was no late-night partying read more

Such a nice place. U fortunately the geese run the beach. There is goose poop EVERYWHERE...it's incredibly shocking to me the amount of people willing to let thier kids dig in a litter box for geese. GROSS read more

Cherry Plain is a fine unknown State Park. It's a nice location for camping or parties, there is a volleyball net and a nice pavilion. The lake is fine, it's usually not crowded, but the beach is a little dirty. It's a shame that there is no basketball hoops, but there is a horseshoe pit. Overall, Cherry Plains is a nice location for parties and camping, and is usually not crowded. read more

Nice country tent camping and swimming . Staff is okay wasn't crowded when I went. Will probably go back in the future when I get time.

This park is beautiful and so low key. You'd be hard pressed to find more than 15 people on the beach on a given day. It's quite a drive from Albany, but I prefer this so much more than Grafton. read more

Ended up staying for a 4 night 3 day adventure. Minor bumps in the road, nothing that destroyed the weekend. One thing though - we got Fri/Sat/Sun online & went back before camping trying to get Thursday - weren't allowed to get 1 night via the 1 800 # or over the phone with camp directly. Needless to say we got the location, our site was taken! Luckily they had another site available - Site 16 (parking lot) not very private. Site 17 - phenomenal site for the rest of the weekend. Low key & quiet park to say the least. We did rent a row boat - $5 bucks an hour or $20 for the day. Great exercise & decently clean boats. The site did offer wood, ice & etc supplies. We did not need to use the camp store or purchase any items. They seamed reasonably priced. $2 bucks for ice, $6 for wood. Staff was friendly, inviting, & helpful. Quiet hours from 10pm to 7am. read more

This place just gets nicer and nicer - every year they seem to do some little fix-up that adds to the pleasure of being there. Loved our lake-view campsite under the trees, a perfect campfire, and hearing the owls calling at night. Staff are great. (A reviewer mentioned noise issues, but we had a good experience with asking the manager to get people to tone down their radio). One thing: I love the kayak rental, but it wasn't clear whether they did that this year. read more

Absolutely beautiful place. Our campsite was wonderful, the lake was beautiful but in the asinine neighbors next to us we're belligerent drunks. This somewhat ruined our relaxing camping getaway but we tried(really tried) to not let these inconsiderate individuals bothers us. My only complain is that staff did not regulate as they should/could have. The belligerent drunks had 10+ people at their site and they arrived without a problem (only 6 people allowed). They had 4 cars (only 2 allowed) but they parked in the free/open parking area and of course staff did not find out. Finally, I have camped A LOT and staff/rangers usually drive around or stop by sites to enforce quiet hours etc and this didn't happen..unfortunately. But anyway, this place is amazing and if you do decide to camp here, I hope you are next to chill people- if thats kinda the person you are, if not, then there should be an area for only loud/want to get drunk in the woods kind of campers :/ read more

It's a very nice and clean park but campsites are VERY close to each other and extremely small. This is the first time that i've been camping so I'm not sure if every place is like this but it was hard to enjoy yourself with people literally 2 feet over. Otherwise, it's a great park with massive trees overlooking a beautiful lake. read more
