Jeff has been doing my hair for a few years. My hair integrity has gone down, but we keep putting the extensions on top. There were several services that I questioned, Jeff and his assistant Erica that they weren't taking the glue completely out of my hair They sat there talkedbehind my back at the The ball saying that she's crazy she's crazy. We haven't taken the entire glue out. Every single time that Erica would brush my hair, she would comb over the glue I questions several times. Wonder if I could request Erica never touching my hair again. Katie is the best! So easy to communicate with and is the sweetest! I had a bad experience with a previous hair stylist and Katie saved the day by color correcting and fixing a botched haircut I had. She took her time and focused on my hair without having clients in between and that's hard to find these days. I hardly write reviews but when a business or a representative of the business is so rude and disrespectful, a review must be written. I made an appointment with Nick at Shearluck over a month ago for today, June 10 at 1pm for gloss, roots and a cut. My friend goes to him and highly recommended him. I made the appt so far in advance because I have my daughters 1st birthday and baby naming tomorrow with 80 of my closets friends and family. A woman from the salon called me a few days ago and asked if I can bump my appt time to 230pm. I said sure, because I have never been before and I always try to be accommodating, even though this was not good for me. Today at 1:50 that same woman called and asked if I can come at 3. I told her I am so sorry but I cannot. I have 3 kids under 6, who needs to eat dinner around 5/530, so starting at 230 is already late for me and a party at 11am tomorrow which I still have errands to run for. So said ok hold on. Came back and said ok no problem. At 2:10, when I was already on my way, Nick called me himself and got right into it with me. We have never met or spoken in my life. He says to me I am stressing him out because I can't come late, as he is working on a big project. I said I am sorry but I made the appt over a month ago.. and that I have 3 young kids and a party early in the morning that I am hosting. Moral of the story, he canceled me as I was on my way, said I was stressing him out and that we should reschedule. Honestly, the disrespect for my time and my appt that was made so long ago is pretty unbelievable. I have never experienced something like this. Becky does such a great job with my hair. I have naturally wavy, thick hair, and I highlight my blonde hair, so over the years it has really taken a toll on my hair. I think a nice thing about being able to review a salon is actually being able to rave about everyone I encountered- not just my extremely talented stylist (Jeff!). My hair: F*cked up from bad choices. I was desperate and far from home and I allowed a barber to trim my hair, which means my long hair was butchered, dry, and not even combed out, then thinned with shears to mimic layers (no, I didn't know he wasn't a regular stylist). I tried to grow it to even the length out for a couple months but while in Florida I had the itch to fix it. My best friend goes to Jeff and she is fabulous so I let her 'treat' me. From the first call I made to the salon, I knew I was in for nothing short of a quality experience. The reception/ client happiness guy, who's name escapes me, was well versed in how long everything takes and was very concerned about ensuring the stylist had proper consulting time, as well as time required for the cut and balayage. That sounds silly but my old stylist would throw my balayage on in 15 minutes and fit in other appts while I sat there. I didn't have higher expectations of the end result. He got creative with my timing requirements to appease my visit. Already above and beyond. Jeff: He fit me in during my friend's coloring the day before my appt, and got an idea of what I needed. He assessed the timing would be fine for my appointment. The appointment went as long as they thought, maybe longer, but I now know why. He takes his time and paints in the color strategically, and it actually made more sense when we consider what balayage is supposed to mimic from natural sun fading on the hair and where it's most flattering. He also corrected my hair without hitting the easy button and chopping it shorter, though I gave him full trust to do so. He explained how it would grow out and the ultimate vision (which was what I had in mind but could not articulate), and how we could get there in stages. I loved where it ended up so I'm really excited for the long term vision! The Staff: Sitting in a chair for 2+ hours is a study in interpersonal observation. I have been in numerous salons and though it is no skin off my back, I have never cared for catty chatter or careless talk by fellow stylists, simply because I am not the one they are working on or talking about. THIS salon, however, maintained a professional outlook and genuinely worked as a team who enjoyed each other and their clients. The Client Happy Guy (reception) was a constant throughout my service which lasted past salon hours, sticking with Jeff the entire time and assisted where he could when everyone else was gone. They were both tired after a long week and I appreciated that they were troopers without even a sigh at the late hour. I watched the pregnant stylist next to Jeff perform a beautiful cut and color highlight on long, blonde hair that wanted to go darker, and I believe she did a nice job for free on the woman's child while she marinated under a dryer. The young lady who did my shampoo (she wore fun Vans, or Chucks): She had wicked hands that washed the hangover right out of me. She communicated well with Jeff on my color transition, and was excellent at her job! Final results: The cost is on par with expectations, and I think if you are putting money into your appearance, hair is fundamental. The grow-out period so far has only shown what a great cut I have, and the color is only getting better. My hair up, or down, looks perfect and naturally sun streaked. The cut is ideal for the regular waves I create (ends out), and actually looked longer once fixed. I am in Delray enough to make Jeff a priority going forward. Jeff is a perfectionist and listens to your needs while making educated suggestions on what will be best, or even better. I appreciate his attitude, his ethic, and talent. The salon is beautiful, the staff is considerate and seem to span a good range of ages so everyone is well-represented. It is kind of a perfect place with parking! I have to leave a review for Katy Hughes - She was my hairstylist for years when she was working out of Boston and I was so sad when she moved. Katy literally saved my hair. I came to her with tonssss of breakage due to over processing and it had broken off up to my chin in some places. She suggested hair extensions to take the heat off of my natural hair and we did them for about 2 years and we also stopped coloring but used the extensions to keep some of the blonde highlights noticeable. She color matched my hair perfectly and the extensions gave me so much confidence that I didn't know I was missing. My hair is now well below my shoulders (without extensions) and so healthy and I have Katy to thank! She's not only an amazing colorist but she's also so sweet and easy to chat with. I used to go to this salon, and I loved it. Mary L is my colorist and she it no longer here. Mary L worked with this salon's owners for years over at the Salon Suites. They all moved over to this salon last year, but after a few months the owners decided to push Mary L their most talented colorist out. (see the reviews- Mary L is mentioned frequently). They wanted to give the chair to an inexperienced stylist they could make more money off of. They called all of Mary L clients and cancelled their appointments without talking to Mary L. I understand business but I also understand loyalty and public relations. Salon's should be a safe place for women, but this place is not safe, they make decisions about peoples lives without thought.
