This was a great experience from start to end. The salon is clean and well kept. Sharla was well organized, kind, professional, and did an amazing job with my hair. I have uber thick hair and prefer it to be shorter. She was able to get rid of the extra hair and honestly was one of the best hair treatments I have had in a long time. Although my hair came out great! It was more I'd a lack of common sense and customer service! I admire the boldness of tipping hair dressers, I too will tip if I feel like it's worth it...but telling someone to tip just because they are foreign and making them feel bad saying it a must to tip just blew me away. I wont go into the history of tipping cause it's sad and a long history of the colored folks but telling a customer that every restaurant's and hair salons and spa is required to tip making the customer feel uneasy and guilty is what killed it for me at this salon. Scheduling was easy. Sharla was amazing! She listened to what it was I really wanted and concerns about a style that was low maintenance. I loved the results, cut wasn't drastic but framed my face and the color is what I had been wanting for quite some time. I want to add that she was super accommodating as I showed up with my baby in stroller. I understand this won't always work out but I was lucky that only she was in the salon during my appt so I was able to have the stroller next to me the whole time and she even dimmed the lights and put relaxing music for my daughter. Stumbled upon this lovely shop after browsing living social. I came in first to get a better feel of the place and for a quick consultation. I was immediately greeted by Sharla who was very nice and helpful. Since then I had been in twice for a bayalage (lighten up and trim) I have had the pleasure of Melinda and Sharla doing my hair. Both great and talented hairstylist! The studio is in Carlsbad village and is such a cute shop with a very relaxing vibe. They use very good quality organic products and are excellent in customer service and making sure your hair needs are of priority. Prices is beyond reasonable..highly recommend this place for any hair need/style! Sharla is an incredible stylist and business owner. She makes great color recommendations, especially for red-heads. My first visit was booked with a stylist that did not measure up to the professionalism and passion exhibited in the other stylists at Shear Karma. I unfortunately did not speak up about my concerns at the time and I left unhappy. My first review was solely on the experience with the stylist--not the salon. I've been informed since that the stylist is no longer with Shear Karma. Sharla listened to my concerns and reached out to me to remedy the experience. My daughter decided she wanted to cut her hair VERY short and highlight it red.. we were all nervous and worried about finding someone that could give her what she wanted. Also she needed her hair done by winter formal. Apparently she's not the only girl with that request and deadline. With 2 weeks to make it happen I scrambled to try and find someone. And then we met Gabriella. Let me first start by giving props on efficiency on every level. I was able to see all available appointments for all stylists at this place without making any phone calls, which is not something many salons provided. Smart. Gabriella had only a few slots open and I requested the appointment in which she called me promptly to discuss over the phone and accepted. Again, very efficient. I sent her some pics of my daughters hair and some pics of the cut she was wanting. When we got tithe appointment she was super sweet and professional, she knew exactly what to suggest my daughter already it was like she did her homework even she had pics of her own to suggest and very informative on the amount of work involved styling different short hair cuts. From start to finish I think this business is run very efficiently by long time talented professionals. The atmosphere is comfortable as each stylist has their own private studio. Sharla is the ONLY person to cut my hair here in North Country since I moved back 15 years ago. She's as good as it gets. Not only does she have great technique, she is an expert with earth-friendly hair products. I've got thinning hair and she has recommended products that have really help decrease my hair loss. I went to this salon when I bought voucher for a cut and color from living social, the staff was friendly. I came with dark hair wanting to go lighter we picked a color that was best suited for my skin color but the out come came out looking like when I first walked in the hair cut was ok but the color was not what I wanted and they offer to do the color again for a discounted price. Let me just start with... I shouldn't be surprised. I have never had a go to hair stylist because I dont get hair cuts often due to bad experiences. Well this salon was a prime example for me... I went in for a simple trim because my sisters wedding Is in about a week. From the second I sat in the chair until the moment I got up, she was trying to get me to buy her hair products and I was very polite but firm that I wasn't interested. I sute didnt get a simple trim. My stylist cut my bangs shorter than I've ever had them. Ever. I told her i hate when they are short and she agreed with me. I've been cutting my own side bangs for years and even i know not to cut them when they are wet because they shrink. Well I'm regretting getting a cut here and leaving a tip because now my bangs are going to look horrible in my sisters wedding photos definitely will not be returning to this salon! read more

Sharla is amazing! I have been in once to her for color and lowlights. I loved the colors she chose! My hair was really shiney and soft for a month now. Usually the shine is lost with in about 2 weeks. She uses a "green" products, and her salon is "green" as well... I am so excited because I am seeing her next week for a cut and color. Because my hair is super curly, fragile and doesn't grow fast. Needless to say, it is hard for me to trust anyone for a cut. Recently, we threw in a few extensions and I showed her a picture of the cut I wanted, and she was like, no problem.
