Shea Demo was given a contract to replace our sidewalks in the summer/fall of 2012. After a meeting discussing the parking arrangements, they were supposed to being work immediately. Three weeks passed and the work didn't start. We had another meeting, trying to get a timeline. They kept procrastinating. At some point, we were up against the cold weather and the work had to be done then or the next year. They continued to delay for a couple more weeks. Another meeting occurred and they claimed the site wasn't properly prepared, they wanted to wait until the next year. This is after 6 weeks of delay, and every indication that the work would begin immediately. The city got impatient and told Shea they couldn't keep procrastinating. This is on a main road and it's in the city's interest to get it finished. So after another couple of weeks passed, they began pouring the concrete. Since it was so cold, a few of the pours had to be ripped out immediately. The other pours immediately started spalling and cracking. We notified Shea immediately of the issues. They didn't finish the sidewalks that year and came back to finish in the spring. We pointed out the issues with the old sidewalks, and they claimed we put road salt on them and that was the problem. We did notify them of the issues immediately after the pour, and before the winter. As well, the issue only effects certain slabs implying a concrete issue. Everybody knows it's a concrete issue. So they finish the sidewalks in the spring, and again, one sidewalk immediately begins cracking. We point it out to Norm Artabane, and he jokingly makes a $50 bet with us that it will be fine. The sidewalk continued to deteriorate through the winter and we put another call into Shea. They don't return our calls. My last message to their voicemail was to let us know if they have any intentions of doing something or not. We have to replace the sidewalk immediately, as it's become a liability. They haven't responded. Of the dozen or so times I've called Shea Demo, I've never had my call answered. I've never received a call back. I have never spoken to Joe Shea. I don't know if Joe Shea has seen the sidewalk. I have trouble believing that he could see this as anythign other then a concrete problem. We have had experts look at it and they say it's clearly a concrete problem. They didn't need to test it, they knew by comparing the adjacent slab. In the meantime, we've had the inside of our lot finished by another contractor and had absolutely no issues. I would still like the opportunity to discuss this with Joe Shea. We have never spoken and I can only assume he's received my messages. I would consider amending my review if I received a call from him. read more
