A-OK for a local supermarket though the few things I shopped for today seemed a bit more expensive than I've come to expect. I think they need an ALDI in this neck of the woods to help drive down prices. The store is clean and well stocked, the lighting is great and the associates I encountered were friendly enough. Of all the Shaw's this is my favorite. (I'm not a Shaw's fan). But this one is pretty great. The thing that puts this one over the top for me is the most amazing lady that works in their flower department. She is AMAZING! My biggest problem with Shaw's is not unique to this particular location: the prices are just too high. A lot of the prices are the same as you'd pay at Whole Foods (or "Whole Paycheck" as a lot of us call it). I went in here today and an item that Hannaford sells for $3.99 was over $5 here. Bakery items sold at Hannaford for $3-$4 were $5-$6 here. Meat and produce prices are higher here across the board. For that reason, I don't do my normal grocery shopping here. Hannaford is a much better bargain. There's hardly ever anyone here. On a typical weekday night there might be a handful of other customers in the store. Since this store gets so little traffic, a lot of items get put on clearance at deep discounts. I was able to get some stuff at the deli that they normally sell for $6.99 a pound, and it was on clearance for $1.99 a pound. It was perfectly good, nothing wrong with it at all. Just getting close to the expiration date I guess. I used it immediately so it wasn't a problem. They also have these great tortilla chips which they make from scratch right in the store. They package them in clear bags and sell them in the produce section near the fruit. $2.99 for a big bag. They're really good. Miles better than the commercial ones found in the chip aisle. read more

This store is closing. A liquidator is running the sale, which was not clear to me when I entered the store. Apparently, Shaw's sold the inventory. I went today and bought items at 30% off. However, the receipt is a mess. It's hard to tell whether I got the discount, as it does not appear with each item. The discounts are grouped by department, and unless you know the department codes, good luck figuring it out. Store staff tried to help, but the software for the liquidation sale belongs to the liquidator company. I'm unsure if I actually saved any money. I notified the Attorney General's consumer complaint division. read more

I'm not sure how to rate this store as I only go here to do my bottles. (I go to the south Portland millcreek location for shopping as it is closer to me) that being said, the staff here are mediocre. Some seem happy about their jobs and like being there, others seem like they wish they could be doing something more exciting. (I mean I get it, standing at the cash register for 5 hours a day can get boring after a while and eventually your legs feel like giving out). But I still like it here. It feels newer inside, (compared to other shaws locations). The only thing I don't like about this location is that it is a bit small inside and has more of a hannaford feel to it (in terms of size). And if you're shopping here, it can be difficult for hard for carts to get by each other in aisles. read more

The worst shaws to work at. I used to work here and some of the employees are nice while others are just plain rude and do not do any work at all. Maybe if they paid better than they could more people to work but they will never learn. And they could have kept some really good employees but the store director is so rude and volatile and just plain mean among other words that no one wants to work there. The prices are also overpriced and everyone is so busy focusing on how not to piss off the store director and upper management when they come in that no one knows what to do. I would have said keep the store so that the employees still get a job but give them better pay and give them a new store director because the current one just doesn't cut it and blames all other management and employees but himself and only makes the work environment not a great one to work at. Because no one wants to come work for such a rude and volatile, disgusting store director. read more

This is by far the weirdest store I've ever walked into. The parking lot is a deserted wasteland and the staff isn't the friendliest in the world. The food is mostly expired and the produce (if you can call it that) is sub par. The employees look miserable and look like they don't want to be there, but who would. There is usually 2 registers open and the cashiers are the only ones to do any work. Almost all the managers form around 4pm-10pm during the week just wonder around the store and don't help bag. They seem like they own the store and are above everyone. I watched a female manager order a male cashier to get off his register to go out and get the carts and he asked why the other female bagger (who was doing nothing) couldn't go out and do it and she responded with "because that is your job". I like how close and convenient this store is to where I live. It is always clean and everyone working there has always been really friendly. Their prices sometimes can be awful. But on the other hand they do sometimes have good deals. You just really need to know prices of things and where to go to buy them. But this can be true for any store as some ideas you don't get there because it's overpriced and some you get because it's a good deal. read more

I have started to shop Shaw's again, mainly due to a very hard to find product they have on their shelf. I was surprised and very happy. For some reason when I go there, I have time to poke around. And, I'm impressed. I'm finding things on their shelves that I didn't know existed. It's almost a joy to grocery shop. In inquiring about the above mentioned product, I asked the service desk if it was a stock item or a one time thing. She called a woman to assist me and she was so helpful. Not only did she tell me it was a regular item, she also showed me where the product was stocked in another isle. You can't put a price tag on that kind of service. Thank you so much Shaw's. I wanted to leave this review for anyone who needed help deciding on where to buy a cake. GO HERE! I was given the worst run around by 3 different hannafords locations who ALL refused to make an Elmo cake for my daughters birthday. They also wouldn't let me order any cake deco that was Sesame Street related because it "wasn't in the book." So frustrated.... I happened to come into Shaws and it was such a relief! Even though they didn't have the Elmo cake deco "in the book", they let me bring in a print of the picture so they can get it onto the cake in another way! Amazing customer service! Instead of telling me to go somewhere else, they actually listened to me and made an effort to make sure I got the cake that I needed. Needless to say I left there VERY happy knowing that my daughter will have her Elmo cake without any hassle! Not sure I'll be shopping here again. Lots of expired product on the shelves. I looked at a bunch of expiration dates but I've still got several items that slipped through the cracks and I'll be bringing them back. For the prices they charge everything should be in date. read more

This Shaw's in Scarborough is always clean and the shelves are always stocked full! The only problem I have at this Shaw's is finding things it's so big! It's very clean and sells beer and wine, too. They don't have very much non alcoholic beer to choose from though. Definitely no O'Doul's! They have lots of fresh produce and a huge deli, too! read more

I shop here about every other week. Or I used to. Good prices and selection. But, the reason for the 1 star review is the staff. It is non attentive and unfriendly at the very best. No one ever talks to you and if you ask where something is, they act as if you are bothering them. I've come to expect that there. But, last week, I was with my elderly mother at the checkout. There were 3 employees standing at the register next to us with no customer. There was one person checking us out along with a bagger who bagged 2 bags (we had more) and then just left. Two registers away were two more employees. All the extra employees were just standing there watching our checker. We had two heavy cases of soda and water. Since the bagger had left and was now standing a few registers down doing nothing, and since my elderly mother obviously couldn't do it, I lifted these onto the belt and then back into the cart, while 6 employees were standing there watching. No one lent a hand. No one bagged. They just stood there! Ugh Shaws! Deplorable behavior. read more

Had a hard time getting around this location because the aisles are too narrow. If there is anyone shopping in an aisle, you can't get by them. Other than that the experience was good read more

The only reason why I keep coming back to this store is because it is the only one that is on my way home. Ever since they got rid of the self scan lanes, the lines have been long EVERY day. Saturday is one of the busiest shopping days of the week and there was only one express lane open and the cashier was in training! The line got to be about 10 people long at one time! This has been happening for at least a year. The other lanes, which there were only 2 of, were long as well. I can't stand it there. read more
