Shaws has gone down hill and the lack of service is just awful. Today 6/3/2026 they had 1 cashier and the line was backed up. Had to use self-service which I hate! Insult to injury they ask for youe license so I said you can see but not scan it and the lady was abrupt and cause I wouldn't let her handle it she got angry. Real ID's are not suppose to be scanned. She yanked it out of my hand all so she could type my DOB into system. I'm 71 years old and find it insulting. Plus the cashiers do not have baggers and if your handicapped grabbing the bags and load the cart is a huge inconvenience. Never going back to Shaws no matter where they are. read more

Check out lines are nuts. People are usually buying 4 items or the entire store. I miss the self checkout, not because I don't like human interaction but because I just want to buy these 3 lemons and be on my way. The produce isle doesn't get my turn around, I usually find bruised or sometimes rotten fruit here. The readymade section isn't bad, I do enjoy an occasional fried chicken. The prices are a bit high for the quality of items and service, but they're open later than most grocery stores. read more

Giving it one star bc I can't give it zero! Had I not procrastinated today I would have travelled the extra few minutes to go to Market Basket in Londonderry. If you catch Shaw's at a good time they may have some of their prepackaged products in the center aisles at a great sale price, but you can never trust their fresh products (deli cut meats, dairy, meats, etc) to stay fresh for the duration of their expected shelf life. If you shop like I do where most of your groceries come from the outer edges of the supermarket, this is not the place to go. Their produce section looks more like a graveyard for fruits and veggies. I posted pics of the veggie display I was faced with immediately inside the door. Rather than a beautiful display showcasing the brilliant selection throughout the department, this set up was only missing the cockeyed "Danger" and "Enter At Your Own Risk" signs with skull and cross bones forecasting the miserable, shriveled, dry and bruised items throughout. I left this supermarket with only $11.00 worth of groceries. read more

I used to come here every day for lunch, as I enjoy their salad bar and other premade options. But I've had to stop since they removed the self-checkout line, because every time I go, there's 2 registers open with a massive line. Every time I go, I end up being late for work from my lunch break. Stood in line for 30 minutes last time. So, unfortunately I've had to stop. If you ever put self checkout back, or have the right amount of people working, let me know and I'll return. this has also been the case for all my coworkers, who have also since had to stop coming because of the insane checkout lines around lunchtime. I'd imagine they've lost lots of business and money since removing self checkout, since for some reason, the average customer is a better and faster cashier than the actual cashiers. read more

Every time I go in it gets worse. The food is really just terrible, if you're looking for fresh veg or meat. Always seems to spoil fast or be of a low quality for a high price. The employees all talk about weird, awkward things with each other at checkout. I wouldn't normally care but they just say weird things, flirting etc... There are maybe 2-3 lanes open no matter when you go in or how busy it is. Employees just walk around, rather than opening registers no matter how busy, talking and bantering. Maybe they aren't allowed on register? They closed self checkout, seemingly thinking if they made it harder to check out, people would stop going? read more

They got rid of the self check outs and at night they never have an express lane open. The last 3 times I've been here I've had to stand in like for over 10 mins with multiple people behind me angrily complaining about the same thing which makes it even more miserable. This place sucks. They always seem to be stocking crap whenever I go in there and it's a pain in the ass to get my cart around boxes and stockers who are paying no mind to me. Also, if you like being blatantly being treated like shit by cashiers who have serious mental problems, this is the place for you. Their prices are ridiculous and the place is usually dirty and dusty! I've gone in several times and they have been out of stock of simple items.... Avoid this place and take the two second drive to Hannafords. Their staff is much more friendly and they have a cleaner store!! read more

I really don't like shaws. I only go there if I gotta grab one or two things and don't want to deal with Walmart or drive to Matket Basket. Shaws selection sucks and the prices are way too high. read more

This store is always very clean and well stocked. The sale prices are really great - especially the 3 day sale that runs Friday through Sunday. The Hood Plaza store was dated before extensive remodeling inside and out. Huge produce and meat selection and much nicer fresh fish area than Hannafords or Market Basket. Better sale prices, as well. read more

Shaw's has really stepped up it's game in recent months. The fish area is nicer and cheaper than Market Basket or Hannaford. The sales are exceptional - with Mymixx and Savingstar combined, you can do very well. In particular, I actually made money on multigrain cheerios because they were on sale for $1.99 and I had a $.75 off coupon that doubled plus there was a $.75 off 1 mymixx discount and a $.75 Savingstar rebate. I would be doing well if it was $2.50 at Market Basket in which case I would only be able to use the $.75 off coupon to get it for $1.75 not a money maker of $1.01. read more

I love shopping at Shaws. I think it is the most organized of the area Supermarkets, the staff I find to be very friendly. The isles are spacious and easy to get around, but alas I do avoid it because of their prices. I don't understand why they charge so much more than Market Basket and how they stay in business with their prices. Forget Hannofords, they are just as bad on prices and I don't find the staff friendly or helpful. We tend to go to Market Basket because of the prices even though they are further away. Maybe it's union contracts or something, but if Shaws doesn't compete at the price level, they won't be around long, which is sad. read more

I absolutely love shaw's. All the workers are usually super friendly especially the deli and seafood clerks. I tend to get my groceries from the fresh sections of the supermarket rather than the boxes of processed foods in the center and shaw's always has a great selection of fresh items. The prices are a little more expensive but I'd much rather pay extra and be treated like a person than go to market basket or hannaford and get treated like cattle and feel unwelcomed and unimportant. The selection in the produce, deli, seafood and meat departments are always great as well. And I truly can't speak high enough about the quality of service from the deli department. I love all the workers in the deli and I honestly feel appreciated when I go there. All in all great store, great service, great location. read more
