Instead of being creamy and balanced, it was overwhelmed by seasoning. The rice had the same problem. Whatever spice blend was used completely buried the flavor of the rice itself. Every bite felt like the seasoning was competing with itself. Then there was the falafel. It was bone dry, dense, and hard enough to knock on like a piece of wood. The pita wasn't much better. It was so stale and rigid it could have doubled as construction material. What makes this especially frustrating is that this isn't my first experience with Yalla. I've enjoyed it many times. That's why this meal was such a shock. I know how good their food can be. This wasn't just an off dish. It was the worst restaurant meal I've had in Albuquerque.
