TL;DR/The Short Version: Deli serving up loaded sandwiches…read morein Hintonburg. A bit pricey, but tasty. The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. District Deli only has cold sandwiches. No hot sandwiches, at least not at the time of the writing of this review. Service was courteous and efficient. Street parking only. Review #118 (2025)

Prepare to be amazed............... We had heard about his place for months and how awesome it was so we finally decided to try it out. When we got there at mid-day on a Saturday there was a line up out the door. My wife suggested we go for a walk to let the line thin out a but. We got back and the line had thinned out so we went in. They have a set number of sandwiches and you can also make your own, but we decided to try their set sandwiches. I got the Parkdale and the Holland, my wife got the Bayswater, and we picked up a Scott for my daughter. When we got home, we were nothing short of blown away. The quality of the sandwich was amazing - the bread was light and fluffy, a ton of meat, fresh veggies, great sauces, just incredible quality. More importantly, fantastic value for money. Even more importantly, the staff were wonderful - they chatted with us but kept the line moving - super professional and friendly. The quality of the sandwiches here rivals Old Tyme - no word of a lie. The bread they use is very very close to what we had in Lafayette and the quality of the fillings is outstanding. Don't walk, run to this place. It will change your life for what you think about sandwiches.

You get to choose your bread (and I believe there is no extra charge for gluten-free bread), cheese, up to 3 meats, unlimited vegetables and unlimited sauces. I got the hoagie, which was like a soft submarine bread, with Havarti cheese, chicken, turkey and ham, lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, black olives, pickles, cucumbers, hot eggplant, roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes and arugula. No sauce (I prefer a drier sandwich, lol). The man who made my bread was super nice. And they have very good sanitation practices. Food preparers wear gloves. The man prepped my bread, meats and cheese, and then put it in the toaster, since I asked to have it toasted. Then he cashed out the lady ahead of me. Then I saw him change his gloves before he came back and finished preparing my sandwich. I wished all restaurants followed these practices. Bravo! The sandwich was cut in half, and I ate half and brought the rest home to my husband, who also thoroughly enjoyed it. My only complaint, and it's totally on me for choosing the toppings, but it was a bit too salty with the black olives, pickles, eggplant AND sun-dried tomatoes. I might just go with the eggplant and skip the other 3 next time. Ingredients tasted fresh. The sandwich was much tastier than at those fast food chains. It's a takeout only joint, located in a strip mall. Lots of free parking in the strip mall.

The only complaint I can think of is if you show up between 11:30am and 12:30pm, there is a good chance the line will be backed out the door. On this particular occasion I made it right around 11:30 am and I only had 4 people in front of me in line. The bakery is run by the same two people day in and day out, Rob and Anna. They can come off a bit standoffish at first but nothing could be further from the truth. Rob spoke to all 4 people ahead of me and even knew some of them by name and things going on in their lives. On this visit I had a cup of Chicken Gumbo and a Turkey Sandwich. The Gumbo was full of sausage and veggies and had a nice flavour to it. The sandwiches however really are the star of the show here as Chuck pointed out. The bread was so fresh it was still warm. And the turkey piled about 3 inches thick. I opted to add cheddar cheese for the bargain price of $0.50 bringing the price to $6 for the soup and sandwich. An unbelievable bargain! Not only would I recommend Riley's bakery but would consider it a necessary stop if you visit Cornwall. You won't be disappointed.

So just look for the Quickie and once you're inside you'll see the Meatheads in the corners. It's takeout only. Nowhere to sit and eat. Although they do have a couch to sit and wait. And wait you will, it took us over 30 minutes for our food. Lots of people phoned in their order or came in to order and left and came back. We just waited there, but we might phone in our order next time. I got the Kickin' Chicken Sandwich ($10) and made it a combo with fries and a can of pop (+$2). My mom got the Orleans Cheese Steak Sandwich ($15) and made it a combo with a poutine and a can of pop (+$4). My chicken sandwich was delicious. It was 2 pieces of breaded chicken tenders tossed in a spicy sauce on a bed of coleslaw, in a brioche bun. The menu said it comes with lettuce and tomatoes, but for some reason my sandwich was missing these ingredients. It was still really tasty, but I would have liked the extra vegetables. My fries overall were good, but some fries were kind of dry and hard. I enjoyed my mom's poutine a lot more because the cheese and gravy made the hard fries softer. Although the gravy tasted a bit fattier than I like, lol. I also had some of my mom's cheese steak and it was good too. It had cheese, mushrooms, onions, and pickles, in addition to the thinly sliced steak mixed in BBQ sauce. The bread was a bit like a baguette in density, which I liked because it didn't get soggy. I like how the containers were made of cardboard and are biodegradable. No styrofoam, yay! Service was friendly. The owner chatted with us a little. He is looking at opening a restaurant, as they are very busy and have pretty much outgrown their set up inside of the Quickie. His fiancee taking our orders was nice as well. Looking forward to trying their other items. They have specials not on their regular menu sometimes too. On the day we went it was fish and chips. Lots of free parking in the Quickie parking lot.

I was the only customer being served and was told it would take between 5-10 minutes which was a good sign as that meant it was being freshly cooked. It was worth the wait the burger was juicy and delicious. The portion sizes are very generous, the combo comes with medium-sized and I found that size to be more than enough. I could not finish the fries, which I should add were not instant fries that most fast food places serve, but fresh fries. The cook that served me was friendly and the kitchen was following COVID protocols. It is a small kitchen running out of a small store so it is only takeout or delivery but there are some tables outside which in normal times you could eat at. If you are in Orleans and looking for a good burger then I recommend this place, they also have wings which I am tempted to try.
