Have you ever had such a surprisingly bad experience somewhere that you feel like you've got to be dreaming? Like it can't be real, nobody's this bad? Because that's how I felt after leaving here. My son regularly gets his hair cut by an incredible barber who wasn't going to be available for a month. So I called Shaw Butte to see if we could get a cut in that day. He said yes and I let him know we'd be right in. I showed the barber photos of my son's usual cut and explained the length. He told me to go sit down and then he did what he wanted. When he called me back over, I was shocked. He told me that my son's hair wasn't going to work with the style I asked for, so he did what was going to work. Which is fascinating to me - he couldn't see it in the photos on my son's head? I pointed out how this cut made his cowlick unmanageable. He told me that he wasn't a magician, but my main takeaway was that he was barely a barber. He told me that my son likes the haircut, which made my son squirm in his seat because he wasn't sure what to say. I wasn't happy before then, but that sent me over the edge. Please do not emotionally manipulate my son. The barber told me I still have to pay for the cut. So I follow him to the register to hand him my debit card and get out of there..... except he tells me that they are cash only - go use the ATM in the back of the store. Why is that not something that's mentioned when I called? Plenty of other barbers that I had called earlier told me about their cash only policy, but nothing from Shaw Butte. The final word there was him angrily telling me to "enjoy the free cut". I support local businesses, small businesses, and creatives, but I would never ever suggest anyone come here. read more

This is the best barber shop I have experienced in many years here in Phoenix. The barbers are friendly, attentive and each have years of experience in the business. My haircuts and beard trims have always been on-point and cut exactly as I've requested. You won't find a lot of unnecessary fluff here. I'd say it's more of an old-school shop with a modern flair. I have only been coming here for a few months now, but I come often because I prefer my hair and beard short and neat. These guys are really good, and the prices are quite fair. Check the place out. Owner is great at haircuts. He knows what he's doing. The other haircutters are good but don't live up to the owner. Hot towel at the end and hot shaving cream on neck hair gives you goosebumps and is a nice cap to a once a month haircut. Good location next to Starbucks. I suggest you check it out! read more

Nice, clean, relatively modern take on an old school barber shop. They have a great waiting area with comfy-looking leather couches, the typical reading material, and TV to boot. Jerry, an older gentleman and a good conversationalist, cut my hair. I got the impression he's the owner but I'm not sure. The cut was mostly with clippers though the scissors did come out for a while. No complaints about the results, and I gave him only minimal guidance. The hot shaving cream and straight razor trim was much appreciated, as was the hot towel treatment at the end. I'll be back! read more

I have been driving past the "Kids Haircuts $10" sign for weeks and finally decided to stop in today to get my little boy's hair cut. Since I'm loading two kids in and out I called from the parking lot to make sure they had time right then, a woman answered and said they did. I unloaded my kids and walked in as she was walking out. The owner was really nice and gave my daughter a lollipop, but the other man cutting hair was busy with a customer and the owner had another appt. The woman finally came back (she was getting a drink at the store nearby) and helped the person that walked in after me. He may have had an appointment, I don't know. The point is that I called from the parking lot and the woman said she had time right then, otherwise I wouldn't have taken my kids out of the car. After about 20 min, I ended up leaving and no one said anything. I am sure the guys there are great, but the other woman there was not. Maybe they really don't want to do kids haircuts? I would go back and try again if she wasn't there. Really disappointed. I hate writing negative reviews, but I was really upset. You would think with the economy the way it is, people would be on their customer service A game. read more

I just stopped in today to get a shave and a haircut I wish I hadn't. They are the rudest people I have ever seen in my life. Could hardly understand them with their broken English. They were very rude. There were two men and one woman in there and they just stood there and looked at me didn't ask if I would like a haircut or anything they're too busy talking amongst themselves. I would not recommend them to anyone they are very disrespectful and very discourteous towards people. Worst hair experience ever; husband and son received disrepectful service, son's hair looked like it was cut with a butcher knife. Stylist was impatient with him (he's 6) husband's much shorter than he asked for and then their "No Credit Cards" policy forced me to bring cash over to pay for it. They were rude about that too, on top of doing a terrible job they rounded out a bad haircut with plain mean spirited behavior. Stay far far away. read more
