Some of the most committed relationships I've had in my life have been with my cars... and my barber. When I moved to Phoenix a little while ago, I was dreading finding a new barber. In fact, I even went back to Houston several times before taking the plunge and trying a new guy in Phoenix. After doing some research online, and considering several barbershops, I decided to go with Barbershop Jack. Barbershop Jack is located on High Street in Desert Ridge. There's plenty of free parking either on the street, the surface lots surrounding the entertainment district, or the parking garage. Part of what I like about Barbershop Jack is that they're open on the later side for a barbershop. Which makes it easier with work and everything. It's a good looking and clean barber shop too. My barber is Nick. He's a friendly guy and he has done a good job cutting my hair. I brought him a picture of what I was looking for and he pulled it off. He asks you before he cuts a certain length, which is awesome. There's nothing worse than getting more hair cut than you told your barber. Nothing you can do at that point. Nick makes sure there's no risk of that. After your cut, they will put some hot lather on you, a warm towel on your face, and massage you with a back massager for 30 seconds or so. It's a nice touch. My only real complaint is that the haircuts aren't cheap at $45 a pop. I researched 4 other barbershops and Barbershop was the second most expensive. With your tip, you're paying a pretty penny for a haircut. I understand part of it is the location. While I wish their rates were a little cheaper, they do a good job. And after your fresh cut, there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area if you'd like to make an evening out of it. read more

I've tried a few barbershops in Phoenix but I've finally found my favorite. Barbershop Jack is phenomenal. Don, the owner and one of the barbers, is hands down a standup act and goes the extra mile for his customer. As soon as you walk in they offer you a drink: water, soda, or a beer. Awesome. I got married recently and I had Don trim my beard and hair, and he went above and beyond. I come once a month. My one piece of advice is to always make an appointment. Hands down the best barbershop I've been to in the Valley. I've been coming here consistently over the last year now and I've always received a great cut from each barber I've had. Don, the owner, is my usual go-to, but when I'm in dire need, I'll book with anyone as I know they're all incredibly talented. The shop is really nice and clean. Live in Desert Ridge, but have been going to a barber for 10+ years in Norterra. I needed a cut badly before heading out of town & he couldn't see me so I thought I'd try Barbershop Jack. After reading reviews, it looked like only two barbers had good reviews, but they were booked. I thought "who cares? I don't need a difficult cut, so anyone should be able to do it." I got a guy who had just moved here. Easily the worst cut I've had since Supercuts. Had me in & out in 15 min, and seeing what he was doing, that even felt like hours. This is a primo barbershop. The whole vibe of the place is modern with a little vintage (old-fashioned chairs) and very hip. Don has a great staff that provides excellent service. I would like to especially thank Becca for doing such a great job on my husband. First visit here was great. My barber was friendly and was thoughtful when asking what I wanted out of my haircut. They do a straight razor shave of the back of the neck (though not around the ears) and hot towel with every haircut, as they should. HOWEVER, my second, and last, visit was with a different barber. He did a fine job cutting my hair, but he did not put on any shaving cream when using the straight razor on my neck. This HURT and I have several very noticeable cuts on my neck as a result. He then put a hot towel over my head instead of neck, put shaving cream on my neck and then wiped it off. This shows me that not everyone cutting hair here went to any sort of barber school. I am still upset that I paid someone money to cut up my neck. read more
