She kept still the entire time. At her check up 6 months later, when they called her name, I stood up to go into the room with her. But they told me that I could wait in the waiting area. Lol. I was apprehensive, but I knew she would be ok. As soon as her cleaning was finished, they called me to her exam room and she was all smiles. From then, I knew she was in good hands. I had Wi-Fi so I searched up emergency dentist" in Kahului even though I was going to West Maui. This place looked good and super close to the airport. While I was still on my flight, they told me they could squeeze me in when I landed. Meanwhile I texted them my insurance card and they gave me an appointment and said if I was late I could go between patients. When I got there, I only had to wait a few minutes before I was taken back to see Dr. Lena! She was so nice as was her dental assistant and the receptionists. She saw that in fact it was not only my crown that came off... but also part of my tooth! So she told me to make sure to see my dentist at home when I get home, and she took a picture to send him. Within a few minutes, she had cleaned off my crown and then she carefully and skillfully put it back on and cemented it. And they take Delta Dental! I paid $120 on top of what insurance covered, but it was totally worth it. The errand to come here from the airport only took about 30 minutes, and then I could start vacation. This is an incredibly thorough and responsive office. I'm so glad I found them on Yelp and they could set me up while I was still on the plane. Dr. Lena is super nice also and makes a patient feel at ease. Highly recommended, even if you're not going to start your vacation this way lol!

I took OFF work because they could only get me in for X-rays at 8am and a cleaning at 11am. I went in for the X-rays and the dentist said it looked pretty good, but asked her assistant which Doctor I was seeing at 11am. When the assistant Dee replied which Doctor (Nancy) it was the one I was seeing said, "oh no, she'll probably want to do a deep cleaning, she doesn't need it but she'll probably want to do that." The assistant and the woman checking out gave me the option to do the deep cleaning for $500 out of pocket total (in two phases) or to stay with the cleaning. As a paycheck to paycheck, I can't just shell out money for a reason that oh this doctor is going to want it. I opted to stay with the cleaning. They said, thank you, see you at 11. I came back at 1045am and sat there until 1115am. The front desk called me up and said the dentist will not take my appt because I've been recommended for a deep cleaning. I told them the other Doctor gave me the option and I was losing insurance at the end of the month and took off work today for this. They said Dr. Nancy and the hygienist wouldn't take me unless I did the deep cleaning and paid. Told me to call back and reschedule when I have other insurance and a new job. This is absolutely horrible practice, I felt like it was a shake down. I will never go back to them!! For a lot of people paycheck-to-paycheck, you can't expect people to pay and refuse service for a "recommended work" because one doctor will let the other "hear it" Avoid.

Nutrition Classes Cultural Enrichment Courses Yoga, and other strengthening classes free to the community. Although it is known for being the Native Hawaiian Health Care System, many of their services are available to ALL Maui County residents. This includes their Health Fair in which available grant funding is used for providing free services for those in need. This may include Free Keiki Dentistry (during specific times of year), Health Screens, and dental care. From a personal perspective, Da Hui is really the embodiment of an epicenter of aloha and kokua for people. The fact that they offer care for total body wellness is amazing (they even have a therapy pool for folks getting back into shape wanting to join an aqua aerobic class). Every single staff member makes you feel like you were the reason that they went into health care. THATS how special I feel each one makes my patients feel. It is in the delivery and grace that makes their medical practice, that much more important to the community they serve. My parents and I chalked it up to me getting braces off and maybe not brushing properly with them, but now that I see it's happened to many others...yikes. We should've gotten a second opinion. They took about 5 hours for a couple fillings they said would take only 1-2 hours and kept messing up my anesthesia. They also didn't believe me when I said I needed more anesthetic than most due to genetics and I felt every. single. thing. They originally gave me the absolute bare minimum anesthetic and I had to ask for more probably 3-4 times. They didn't believe me until they decided to drill and I flinched/yelped so loud that they finally gave me more injections. Then they left the room for so long it wore off by the time they returned and had to redo the process from scratch. To top this off, in a later appointment they fit one of my crowns so horrifically I couldn't bite down properly for a year and I've had lasting TMJ and asymmetrical muscles in my face ever since. In retrospect, my family and I probably should've pursued legal action, but it's so long in the past now that I'd just severely warn everyone to stay away.

But they are so so so good. They are calm and relaxing and put you at ease. They also don't seem to push things you don't immediately need. I don't have dental insurance and it costs an arm and a leg. So we did everything that was necessary only. They are honest and kind and even have their own form of dental insurance plans which is amazing.

Dr Lau is amazing too but he currently doesn't see new patients. Heardon and Vargas do perfect dental work and only prescribe the treatment necessary for good dental health. I had a crown done recently and Heardon was spot on. Even though my old crown was a mess she figured out how to remove it with ease. Don't like dentist? Go here, the staff are all great too- everyone's wants you to experience the best care when you have a dental visit. I won't go anywhere else on the island.
