Everything is via email and if you have questions, you have to go through an outsourced billing/support company. They couldn't understand me (they weren't native English speakers) and they refused to escalate my case to a manager. - I spent THREE months with support trying to get them to see they had my bill incorrect and couldn't get anywhere. I myself had to finally research how to escalate it and get someone to listen to me. - Sure enough, they forgot to include how much I paid as a deposit on the surgery before the procedure. Simple enough - but took THREE months of run around. - In the meantime, I was receiving emails threatening to send my account to collections. I wasn't being negligent, I was consistently pursing support to get an answer, but nobody knows what anyone else is doing. They just send automated late notice/collections notices out without regard for if the patient is conversation with the billing office about the problems. This was by far the worst billing experience I've ever had. It took months to get to talk to someone who was English speaking and higher up than the contracted customer support/billing rep. If there had been a local office where I could go in with the bills they were sending me, and sit with them and SHOW them what my receipts paid showed versus what they were showing, etc. AARGH. As much as I love Dr. Herring, there must be another excellent orthopedic physician at an office that has better billing/customer service. It has now been SIX months past my surgery and I'm just getting to the bottom of things. The hours I have put into this are ridiculous, unnecessary, and disrespectful to the patient/consumer. Do better Ortho Virginia.

My surgical procedure took longer than expected, but he did a terrific job with my neck. I did not experience any nreve pain post procedure, and the feeling in my hands along with all the neck pain was resolved. No complications at all after the surgery. Dr. Gocke greeted me the next morning with profuse apologies for the surgery taking so long. Wow. How nice was that? He explained all of the procedure to me, which I was absolutely fine with. His assistant, I forgot her name, was extremely flexible and helped us get appointments and made changes so the surgery could align with my school schedule. She was super kind and made me feel so much better when I was nervous about the surgery. The nurses and anesthesiologist also were so kind and calming and funny on the day of the surgery, can't thank them enough for their sweet words when I was feeling nervous. Dr. Reis walked in and talked me through the procedure and my nervousness was gone and I was confident about going under. I was warned in advance that this would be the case. Once I was in the room to be seen a super nice tech took me back for x-rays. Dr. Shaia is the very best knee doctor, period. He replaced one knee, but only after trying multiple options to make the original knee last as long as possible. I appreciate the mindset that surgery is NOT the first option, but rather one to be considered after other options no longer work. And he trusts the patient to determine when they no longer work. He lets the patient actually be the driver of the decision-making process, not taking an attitude of "I know better." My knee replacement was as much of a breeze as a surgery can be - little pain, easy healing, steady progress, back on my way in the expected time with practically no complications. I don't hear that story from people who go to other surgeons... I appreciate his manner - he's no-nonsense, and asks direct questions to get direct answers, so that he can suggest options for care and treatment. He doesn't coddle or use euphemisms, which I appreciate - I hate being treated like I'm stupid! - and he takes seriously the symptoms and information I provide.

When my daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 12, we interviewed 1/2 dozen doctors before choosing Dr. Kim. What drew us to him was his professional demeanor yet personable bedside manner. He is impeccable is his appearance and is healthy and fit. (Some of the other doctors we interviewed were not, I mean, if you can't take care of yourself, how can you take care of others?) We were impressed by his knowledge, his gentleness and his patience. He answered my barrage of questions and put us at ease. When the time came for my daughter's surgery, he quelled our nerves and we felt completely confident in his expertise. Without going into too much detail, the surgery went great, my daughter's back is beautifully aligned and straight, and her stitches looked like they were made with a sewing machine, perfect. My daughter is now healed, almost 22 and has been discharged from Dr. Kim's care, but we still visit him regularly and thank him for his contribution to our daughter's health! She and Dr. Kim are BFFs! And he will always have a special place in our hearts! And yes, he always has her back!! I brag about Dr. Kim to everyone I know. I trust him implicitly. He quite literally saved our daughter's life and he will forever be our super hero. A million stars!

So, she asked if she could get her $50 co-pay back (like anyone might) and he angrily huffed out of the room! She was was then further humiliated in front of other patients while the staff was talking about her (like she was being difficult) while she waited for her refund. Then she left and called me crying her eyes out from embarrassment and humiliation. Is this how you treat patients at this office? And do your schedulers not know what Dr. Kim will treat?? I will never go back to this horrid place.
